25.01.2022 McLeod Rail recently paid a visit to the Metro Training Academys purpose built training facility in Kensington. Tony Laycock, the Business Development Manager for National Training, showed us around the training track constructed by rail trainees and designed for training entry level staff in railway safety awareness. The facility can also provide for safeworking training, signalling and train driver training. We also got a sneak peak at the "Performance At The Limit Facil...ity" featuring an actual F1 car. The PATL facility focusses on group training on twelve key business lessons with an emphasis on areas such as building high performance teams, teamwork, communication, focus, and a "no blame" environment. Tony said "We at the Metro Academy and our shareholders... believe that leaders are everywhere, not just at the top, and this is another area our one day PATL course develops". For more information on the Metro Training Academy including PATL contact please feel free to contact Tony on 0429376722

18.01.2022 In late 2015, McLeod Rail completed works for a private Victorian freight company. The project involved removing the existing timber sleepers from a high traffic section of track and replacing them with the new recycled composite plastic sleepers. The location of these composite sleepers next to their timber counterparts will allow McLeod Rail and our client to analyse the performance of this new technology. The side by side analysis of the new sleepers against the traditiona...l timber sleepers will enable McLeod Rail and our client to test the operating capacity of these new sleepers. Hopefully paving a way toward an increased use of recycled material in the rail industry. Have a look at our updated website for some more photos of this project and other projects we have delivered. http://mcleodrail.com.au/pro/composite-sleeper-installation

The contractor forum is a great initiative, and Metro should be proud that it was well attended and well received.

10.01.2022 We just turned 25! In March 2018, we celebrated our 25th anniversary of continuous operation with a Key Client, Supplier and Stakeholder Function hosted by cricket great Merv Hughes at our West Melbourne depot. Merv entertained guests with many memorable cricket stories and anecdotes, and shared fishing and cooking tips from his latest adventures. We appreciate the loyalty and support of our many clients of the last two and a half decades, and look forward to another 25 exciting years! ,

09.01.2022 Over the weekend the McLeod Rail maintenance crew completed resleepering works on the Moonee Ponds Creek bridge. Included in the project was the replacement of 200 sleepers with new ballast on both the up and down tracks of the bridge. The crews worked well for three shifts, two days and one night, to safely and successfully deliver the project. While the location of the bridge complicated the job with frequent train movements and height limitations the boys made the best of it, working efficiently and consistently over the 2 days (and very much enjoyed the views of the fish!).

08.01.2022 Greg Fill, GM Safety of QR is a big believer in ATSB style investigations of safeworking incidents, identifying up to 30 causal factors in incident investigation, or "unpeeling the onion". The 4 major causes of safeworking incidents in QRs network: 1. Poor communication/ no communication between field workers and network control. Communications training is now shifting away from technical matters eg correct use of radio, and more to things like sticking to the facts, asking... questions correctly and knowing when to seek the validation of safety critical information. 2. Incorrect identification of locations 3. Inadequate planning prior to the commencement of work 4. Incorrect application of work site protection rules and procedures

06.01.2022 This time last year, the McLeod Rail crew, was up in beautiful Harcourt conducting bridge reconditioning works. Thanks for the great shot guys!

04.01.2022 Yesterday we attended a CEDA presentation by Mark Wild, PTV. Mark shared some very interesting insights including that 740 million trips will be made by 2021. He stated that the relentless agglomeration of Melbourne is unlikely to stop - in 20 years Manhattan will be here! There are only 56 major roads into CBD and reliance on roads alone is not going to work. It isnt trams & trains vs. roads, it is trams & trains AND roads. Trams and buses can only work with viable integrat...ion with the suburban rail network. The current constraint in increasing train services is the signalling system, we have been abiding by 120 year old rules. We will soon be reducing distances between trains and this system will first be deployed on the Sandringham line. Also, the D9 project will produce increased CBD road and rail capabilities with 24-26 trains per hour. PTV believes that Victoria has the best rolling stock capacity in Australia. Combine better trains, signalling and infrastructure and you have a world class system that can support 8 million people. Mark also advised that $50 million has been allocated for a one year trial of 24/7 public transport as of 01.01.2016.

03.01.2022 This week our home city, Melbourne, hosted the AusRAIL conference. Here is a photo of some of the team at the McLeod Rail stand on Day 1 of AusRAIL in Melbourne. It was great to catch up with many clients, suppliers and contacts, both old and new, who stopped by to say hello. It was also very pleasing to see such high levels of confidence and optimism, amongst both rail operators and the rail supply chain alike, with the ARAs figures indicating a domestic rail spend of A$28 billion in the next few years.
