22.01.2022 I love these pieces made from semi-precious stones. Each one has its own story. My favourite is Lapis Lazuli. Lapis was mined as early as 7000 BC, in Afghanistan and elsewhere in Asia, but did not find its way to Europe until the late 1400s. Famous Renaissance painters ground it into powder to make the colour blue. Earlier, Cleopatra used powdered lapis as her eyeshadow. The stone was also used to make the eyebrows on the funeral mask of King Tutankhamen. Which is your favourite stone?

08.01.2022 We specialise in one-off handmade and remodelled jewellery using clients' own stones or materials. Over the coming months we're going to show you the process of hand-making a ring, using these fancy-cut diamonds and the clients own white and yellow gold. Watch this space...

07.01.2022 Peridot, symbolising compassion, lightness and beauty, is the stone for August. Napoleon once gave a gift of peridot to Josephine as a symbol of his undying love and admiration. In ancient times this stone was called chrysolite, and is mentioned throughout the Bible; early Christians considered it sacred. It can be yellow green, olive or bottle green, and sometimes a deep chartreuse.

06.01.2022 I've just spied this gorgeous hand-beaded evening bag. It's an original, one-off so you'll never see another one like it!

04.01.2022 This lovely photo was taken by the City of Melbourne when Lucy won the silver award in the 2013 Lord Mayors Commendation for long term business commitment. The award describes her business as 'having the qualities of an old-fashioned jeweller, offering manufacture, repair and remodelling, as well as sales. She describes her business as "old-fashioned service with modern jewellery" and tries to keep the heritage of the McMaster name in mind. Lucy was a local North Melbourne girl growing up and loves the area.'

03.01.2022 Did you know... Carnelian is a semi-precious stone that comes from a mineral coloured by iron-oxide. The oldest examples in the world were found in decorative objects on the island of Crete, and date from 1800 BC. Carnelian was also used widely during Roman times to make engraved gems for signet or seal rings.

02.01.2022 The decorations are starting to go up, reminding us there are loads of ideas for lovely Christmas presents here.
