23.01.2022 Recently between fire and then snow preventing access some members of the BCWC walked the most eastern part of McMillans Walking Track from Cobungra through to the Dargo High Plains Road. This included Mayford Track and the burnt out Treasure Spur and partly burnt King Spur Track. The walking pad down Mayford track has been mainly lost because of work to the fire break. The undergrowth on treasure spur has completely disappeared. Fire along King Spur Track has helped reduce fuel load but not affected the track.

22.01.2022 There are still challenges on McMillans Walking Track but this was the last section of long deferred maintenance to catch up on. A positive meeting was held this morning with Parks Victoria and DELWP representatives to discuss ongoing maintenance projects.

17.01.2022 The section of McMillans Walking Track from N18 to Mt Shillinglaw and down to the Jamieson-Licola Road (which is also part of the AAWT) has now been cleared and is a joy to walk.

14.01.2022 Recent and current fires have impacted McMillans Walking Track. Fire has burnt Treasure Spur which leads from Mayford on the Dargo River and spread along King Spur towards the Dargo High Plain Road. Fire has impacted the Moroka River up stream of the junction with the Wonnangatta River. The Ben Cruachan Walking Club had a walk scheduled for last weekend from Talbotville to Eaglevale and then through the Mt Darling - Snowy Bluff Wilderness Zone to the Moroka Road. Not only was access to the walk closed but the whole of the first days walk was burnt. It will be interesting to see how the walk has been affected by the fire once it is safe to walk again.

14.01.2022 After postponement by one day because of a total fire ban, 17 volunteers gathered at a camp site at the intersection of the Licola-Jamieson Road and Lazarini Spur Track (LST). Over 4 days the volunteers to DELWP cleared a 6km section of McMillans Walking Track from LST down to the Black River, which was heavily overgrown in sections. Many logs and fallen trees were cleared from the track, hedge trimmers and brush cutters were used to cut vegetation blocking the track. Much ma...nual work was involved in removing the cut debris from the track. Some benching was done to make the track safer to walk. The team also did some track clearing on the other side of the river, cleared a few small tent sites just north of the river crossing and did some work to protect a rather excellent example of the dry walling constructed by Angus McMillan's gang in 1864. This section of McMillans Walking Track is now easy to follow and a joy to walk, except that from the river to LST involves climbing some 700 metres. Despite the hard work the volunteers enjoyed the comradeship, camp life and the opportunity to cool off in the river. Thanks to DELWP for making the required arrangements, supplying fuel and some of the equipment and providing a generous quantity of sumptuous food. Thanks to BTAC for arranging the work and providing the bulk of the resources and thanks to all the volunteers for giving their time and making such a sterling effort. See more

13.01.2022 Under growth and track markers burnt out on Treasure Spur.

13.01.2022 Recent fires have impacted approx. 27km of the eastern end of McMillans Walking Track including the Black Sallee picnic/camping area. The impacts have been on the Victoria River Track, Dinner Plain Track, Mayford Track and almost all of White Timber Spur Track. The degree of damage is unknown at this stage.

10.01.2022 Walkers from various clubs completed an end-to-end walk of McMillans Walking Track on 14 December. McTk2019 was hosted by Ben Cruachan Walking Club.

07.01.2022 Advance orders for the McMillans Walking Track guide book at a discounted price can now be placed at www.john.chapman.name/pub.html. The book will be available late November. The guide book provides comprehensive maps and step by step track notes. Profiles provide an instant impression of the terrain to be traversed. A number of side trips and variations including a 2 to 3 day diversion via Lake Tali Karng are given in the book. John Smith who did much of the work in the 1980s to establish the track as a walking track compares notes with Joe van Beek one of the contributors to the McMillans Walking Track guide book.

07.01.2022 It is pleasing to note that quite a few people are taking an interest in McMillans Walking Track. Thank you for indicating you like the messages or photos.

02.01.2022 Thank you for following and liking McMillans Walking Track. Here is a link to the account of the BCWC's end-to-end walk of the track last December. See lots of pictures and description of the track. https://bencruachanwalkingclub.com///BCWC_211_MMWT2019.pdf In March before Covid-19 lockdown BTAC and BCWC cleared most of the track between Arbuckle Junction and Dingo Hill Track. This is now a joy to walk. Lookout for a guide book to McMillans Walking Track due for release in November. This is a joint BCWC and John and Monica Chapman effort.
