During ...this pandemic, you didnt give up on your communities. You rose to the challenge and you thrived And because of that people continue to have a meal to eat, a friendly voice to call, a place to drop off their child, an online session to connect. Neighbourhood houses are resilient, resourceful and always here for their communities - thank you to each and every one of you #NHW2020 #HeartOfOurCommunities

18.01.2022 SURVEY OF 955 PEOPLE ON JOBSEEKER We surveyed 955 people on JobSeeker, Youth Allowance and other income support payments receiving the $550 a fortnight Coronavi...rus Supplement, and they told us that for the first time in a very long time, they were able to cover the basics. This must continue. The increased rates are having a transformative impact on peoples finances and health. This is what people told us about how their lives have changed, since the start of the increased payments on April 27: *92.8% said they were able to afford more fresh fruit and vegetables. *82.8% reported eating healthier and more regularly. Prior to the supplement, 74% of respondents skipped meals. Of those who skipped meals, 28% skipped 7 or more meals a week. *69.2% said they were now able to pay for essential medical and health treatments. *75.1% said they were able to pay their bills. *64.7% said it was easier to pay rent or move to safer accommodation. *93.5% said the removal of the supplement would have a significant or extreme impact on their ability to cover the cost of essentials. READ THE FULL REPORT HERE: https://www.acoss.org.au//200624-I-Can-Finally-Eat-Fresh-F TAKE ACTION The Raise The Rate for Good campaign needs your help to make sure there is a permanent increase JobSeeker and Youth Allowance. We must push, harder than ever, to ensure that JobSeeker is permanently raised on July 23, so that people can keep a roof over head and food on the table. Tell the Government that we must not turn our back on people doing it tough. We must Raise the Rate for Good. Everyone needs to be able to cover the basics. 03.01.2022 "Its a dark time for many people, but some of the work being done to link up communities and give vulnerable people hope and resilience is pretty inspiring." L...ong before coronavirus, our theme for 2020 Neighbourhood House Week was Loneliness: the solution is community. Little did we know this theme would be relevant more than ever by the time NHW came around, as shutdowns and restrictions have forced us all into a much more isolated existence. Our neighbourhood houses have risen to the challenge of keeping community connection alive - despite having to close their doors. This article from Victorian Council of Social Service shares some of that important work. #NHW2020
