16.01.2022 Dear Actors, Due to the amazing response, it took longer than expected to organise but today the CGA SELF TAPE LIBRARY 2020 has now been distributed to every Ca...sting Guild member as a wonderful resource moving forward. Looking at this library is a very humbling experience, tapes put down in a time of huge uncertainty, in the first round of isolation - no other generation of actors and artists in living memory have faced a moment such as this. Actors communicate, they engage, they provoke, they respond, they interact and they inspire. A Casting Directors greatest privilege is being an actor's first audience, and by looking at this unique library it is evident that it will also be this generation of actors and artists that will inspire, engage and provoke the rest of society out of this crisis. We are in good hands. The CGA want to thank every actor who sent us a tape, the agents who encouraged them to send a tape and the mums/dads/partners/flatmates who read for the actors. Thank you to @castingnetworksau for all your help with this project it went above and beyond, thank you to Daisy Hicks for co-ordinating such a huge task. To our Victorian actors and colleagues who are back in iso, our thoughts are with you! We encourage you to get creative, be determined, get angry, have something to say and find a way to say it, start tapping away at the keyboard, zoom (I know.) with your colleagues and start planning the new renaissance that we will all need going into the future. 14.01.2022 Hey there, if you're in Sydney, we have some spots left for our 8 week workout courses. This will be the last workshops of the year in Sydney. Classes start next week, there's a few spots left in the Tuesday Night and Wednesday night classes. Dave will be holding two separate courses this term - one on TUESDAY NIGHTS and the other class on WEDNESDAY NIGHTS. There are limited spaces available in each class, so book in early to avoid disappointment. This class is all about per...formance muscles and a your approach to auditioning - demystifying the process and just getting to work on great scenes. Hopefully by the end of the course you'll have about 3-4 good reference clips for your agents to use when putting you forward for possible auditions. The Workouts will begin on: Tuesday nights starting the 3rd of September and will finish on the 22nd of October Wednesday nights starting the 4th of September and will finish on the 23rd of October. 13.01.2022 INVITATION TO SELF TAPE We are thrilled to be casting a landmark major musical that will tour the country and appearing in some of Australia’s most famous and premier theatres. Dates would be between 29th July - October 2019. We can’t publicly say the name of the show until it is officially announced later in April but that would be too late for auditions. If you have an agent they will have received the brief this week and will know what it is.... We’re looking for a diverse, young and exciting cast (aged 20-30) to bring the revolution that is this Musical into 2019 and show how relevant this piece still is today. Looking for passionate, political, edgy, smart, feisty and brave artists to celebrate this iconic powerhouse show about love, life, injustice and the continuing struggle of youth to be heard and taken seriously. If you or someone you know is a passionate, amazingly talented young singer/actor looking for a big break, then we’d love you to send in a self tape following the instructions below (we can only accept tapes following these instructions): Self Tape instructions: 1.Please film yourself singing a 60’s or 70’s song, keeping in mind this show is a Rock Musical about love, life and freedom. 05.01.2022 Vale: Susie Maizels It is with great sadness we farewell our friend, colleague and an icon of the Australian Casting industry, Susie Maizels. Long before the Me... Too era, in the late 70’s and early 1980’s there was a group of trailblazing, fiercely intelligent, strong, passionate, dedicated and determined women who established the Australian Casting Industry and would become some of the first female Heads of Departments in our film and TV industry - Susie Maizels was one of the leaders of that group of pioneers of Australian women in film. In 1983, Susie cast a young actress with a lot of promise in a film called BMX BANDITS - it would help launch Nicole Kidman on an incredible career trajectory. Always passionate about finding and nurturing Australian actors, Susie went on to cast some of Australia’s most iconic film and TV productions including films LANTANA, JINDABYNE, OYSTER FARMER and BLISS, TV productions included POOR MAN’S ORANGE, THE HARP IN THE SOUTH, THE POTATO FACTORY and ALWAYS GREENER. Today, we celebrate Susie’s life and her legacy, and thank her for her passion, laughter, strength and her contribution to Australian Film and TV screens. Susie's funeral will be held this Friday 15th at BATHURST CREMATORIUM 11am. Susie loved actors and so in Susie's memory the CGA has made a donation to the NSW ACTORS BENEVOLENT FUND x
