03.01.2022 I’ve had three customer inquiries about burnt Camellias today. One lovely old guy has been left to look after his wife’s Camellias, since her passing. She was ...a very keen gardener He told me. She must have been one of your best customers Sometimes when you don’t see customers for a while, you just assume they have moved away. You never think they have, really moved away, never to return. Camellias are water loving plants. They have big glossy green leaves that transpire a lot of water on those plus 40 degree days. Once the soil runs dry, the leaves start to wilt, and then the leaves turn brown. If not enough water is available all the plants leaves will turn brown, and the plant will look dead. If you scratch the bark with your finger nail, you will usually discover, that it’s still green underneath. This is great news, because it means your plant will usually come back to life after rain. Don’t fertilise your Camellias. The roots have been damaged by the dry soil so the last thing they need is fertiliser. Treat your soil with Wettasoil. This rehydrates dry soils and makes it accept water again. Nurse your sick Camellias back to health with Seasol. This plant tonic encourages new roots to grow. You can apply it twice a week in a watering can. Mulch around your Camellias with Sugar Cane. This insulates the soil from the hot sun and helps keep the water in the soil longer. As it breaks down and composts, it adds Organics to the soil. Organics absorbs water and turns Clay into soil. It encourages earth worms to come and live in your soil too. Rain is coming this week. All your plants will be jumping for joy next week. So will you. Leave damaged leaves on your plants until the weather cools. They will help shade your plants. Autumn is only 4 weeks away. #burntfoliage #heat #damage #plants #repair #seasol #wettasoil #gardening #summer #water #more #gardeningaustralia #betterhomesandgardens #timsgardencentre #campbelltown
