25.01.2022 At the start of the year I signed up to do the Run Down Under, a virtual run around Australia It’s 14,080 kilometres, passing through 98 towns plus every state/territory in Australia. Quick update....I’m currently 849 kilometres into the journey having left Canberra on January 1st (where it started) and just reaching Coffs Harbour today. Ticking off the kms everyday and enjoying seeing the progression on the map #rundownunder #MDrising #kilometreking
23.01.2022 Put the finishing touches to another training week with a tough Sunday long run. 34km in total. 2km warm up, 30km at 4:30 - 4:35 pace and then a 2km cool down. Not the perfect week of training but the absolute best I could do and that’s all that matters. Only slipped above the 4:35 pace twice and felt pretty comfortable throughout, particularly early on. No injuries or niggles. Another two really hard weeks of training then it starts to ease off before Canberra. Closing in on another successful marathon preparation #MDrising #themarathonman #sub3marathon #runningmotivation #runner #marathontraining #relentless #goodtogreat

20.01.2022 Back to back runs in Torquay to start the week Both fairly cruisy as I recover from Sunday’s 35km long run. Body’s pulled up well. Off to the track tomorrow for 20 x 400m to keep some speed in the legs 26 days to go! #MDrising #themarathonman #sub3marathon #canberramarathon #runningmotivation #runner
20.01.2022 Saturday/Sunday/Monday It’s been a busy few days but the runs keep piling up! A cruisy run in Daylesford on Saturday morning before a hilly long run on the Sunday. Climbed to almost 600m of elevation over the 34 kilometre journey which is a really good hit out for the legs. A slow 10km recovery jog today. Looking forward to getting the legs moving a bit faster again tomorrow with 14km. I’ve received my next 4 week training block and there’s some serious work involved before the taper for Canberra. If I can nail the next 4 weeks I’ll be entering marathon #2 of 2020 confident I can break 3 hours. #MDrising #themarathonman #sub3marathon #runningmotivation #runner #relentless #kilometreking
19.01.2022 Eat. Sleep. Run. Recover. Repeat. 38 days to go #MDrising #themarathonman #sub3marathon #kilometreking
18.01.2022 Your birth in June 2017 ignited a flame in me to rise again, to revisit my love of running and to seek new horizons. Your arrival couldn’t have come at a better time. You helped save me. I love you little king
17.01.2022 Man On A Mission It wasn’t that long ago that one kilometre at 4:15 pace would of truly tested me. Now I’m closing in on maintaining that speed for the full 42.2km marathon distance. Not bad for a 40 year old, that only 3 years ago, was 800 grams away from 100kg 40 days till Canberra ... #MDrising #themarathonman #kilometreking #runningmotivation #fattofit #manonamission #marathonrunner #marathontraining
15.01.2022 3 years ago today.... It took an incredible amount of evidence and a lot longer than I ever expected but it's now really official. Today I received the Guinness World Records certificate for the most consecutive days to run a marathon distance. 55 marathons in 55 days. ... #MDrising #55in55 #guinnessworldrecord
15.01.2022 Another tough Wednesday workout After a 4km warm up I jumped into 20 x 400m reps at 92 second pace with a 45 second recovery between each one. The session starts off alright but soon creeps up on you. From 15 onwards I was digging deep. Finished with a slow 2km cool down. I headed back out tonight for a recovery jog after work and the legs felt surprisingly good. I kept it at a real easy pace so I can feel good during tomorrow’s 14km run. A good confidence boosting day. April 5th can’t roll around quick enough #MDrising #canberramarathon #themarathonman #sub3marathon #kilometreking #runningmotivation
14.01.2022 31 days until I fly to Canberra. 33 days till race day An easy pace 12km this morning. Ready for tomorrow’s big session. 20km including 10 x 1km at 3:45 pace off 90 seconds rest. I’m sure it’s going to be one of the hardest I’ve done. #MDrising #themarathonman #sub3marathon #runningmotivation #runner #canberramarathon
12.01.2022 If it wasn’t the toughest workout I’ve done it’s well and truly up there! 10 x 1km reps aiming to hit 3:45 pace per kilometre with 90 seconds rest between each one. Throw in 5km either side of the 10km and it was 20km in total for a big morning session. Legs and lungs were really feeling it from number 7 onwards. Happy with the result. Enjoying the process of becoming a better runner day after day. Can’t wait to put all this hard work to the test on April 5th. #MDrising #themarathonman #sub3marathon #marathontraining #1kmreps #kilometreking
12.01.2022 Dropped Chace off at footy training then headed out for a cruisy 12km around the Barwon River. Pulled up well from yesterday’s 1km reps T minus 31 days until Canberra. I can’t wait. Super busy morning at work tomorrow so it’ll be an afternoon run. 16km including 10 x 30 second surges with a 90 second jog. Good to go #MDrising #themarathonman #canberramarathon #sub3marathon #runnersofinstagram #kilometreking #marathonprep
10.01.2022 Not the news I was hoping to get but probably the news I expected The Canberra Marathon that was just 23 days away has been pushed back till August. Going sub 3 hours is on ice for a little longer. It’s disappointing but I don’t run for times, like I’ve mentioned before I run because it gives me a sense of purpose and brings meaning, direction and discipline to my everyday life. Plus it’s always a whole lot of fun running and chatting with mates. This weekend is no different. Tomorrow is 14km early with Trent and Sam before 40km on Sunday with Paul, Ash and Scott. The marathon continues #MDrising #marathontraining #runningmotivation #themarathoncontinues #kilometreking #runner
10.01.2022 Nothing like starting the weekend with an easy pace run in readiness for the Sunday long run. It’s the most important run of the week and one I always want to nail Tomorrow is 34km including 30km at 4:30-4:35 pace. It’s going to be a solid hit out but one I’m really looking forward to. Now to get a good nights sleep #MDrising #runningmotivation #sub3marathon #themarathonman #kilometreking
05.01.2022 I originally had an easy pace 40km on my running plan today but with the Canberra Marathon postponed till August I was advised to enjoy this weekends long run and not to overdo it. We pencilled in 30km before we kicked off but ended up doing 33km in total at 4:45 per km pace. I felt great the whole way. The run was made perfect with Paul, Ash and Scott all joining in. There’s nothing like clocking up the kms with mates as you chat away. Time really does fly. There’s so much negativity around at the minute but I promise if you... get outdoors, get the heart rate up, find a crew who support you, have a chat, laugh, smile and be present it won’t take you long to realise that this life is pretty damn amazing. Capped off an epic morning with breakfast and coffee with the crew #MDrising #kilometreking #marathontraining #runtheday
05.01.2022 SUNDAY LONG RUN Pic 1 (1-9km) Pic 2 (10-18km) Pic 3 (19-27km)... Today’s 35km was tough! The plan was an easy 4km warm up () then straight into three rounds of 7km at 4:15-4:20 pace followed by a 2km float at 4:50 pace. The long run ended with a 4km cool down (). It was all going pretty much to plan for the first 18km but the last set of 7km/2km was hard. I was running into a nasty headwind and the legs were beginning to get heavy. I always get annoyed when I don’t nail the session but I’m also well aware of all the factors that can contribute to the slow down in pace. It was still 2 hours and 50 minutes on my legs after a pretty solid week of training. Definitely still staying positive and looking forward to one more heavy week of training before the kilometres ease off a little. Not long now till showtime #MDrising #themarathonman #sub3marathon #kilometreking #marathontraining #runner #runnersofinstagram
05.01.2022 Another big running day! 20km this morning with 8 x 1km efforts at 4:05 pace followed by 1km at 4:25. It turned out to be closer to 4:15 and 4:35 due to a nasty headwind around the river. I felt strong and despite the wind I felt in control and comfortable at the pace. Run number two after work was a real easy 6km recovery jog. 50km all up so far this week. Feeling real good #MDrising #themarathonman #sub3marathon #runningmotivation #runner #marathontraining
05.01.2022 The Garmin race predictor has me closing in on that elusive sub 3 marathon. These predictions can often be out but this looks pretty close to where I’m currently at. With 5 weeks of training still to go I’m perfectly placed to crack 3 hours. 14km easy pace tomorrow before 34km on Sunday including 30kms at 4:30 pace. #MDrising #themarathonman #sub3marathon #runningmotivation #kilometreking #runner #relentless
03.01.2022 I was reminded a couple of days ago by a client that I should stand still from time to time and take stock of what I’ve achieved over the last few years. Although I don’t like to look back, I took the advice onboard and happened to find this epic memory from my 18 month half marathon journey. This was the final steps with my family after 11,395.4 kilometres over 535 days It was good to be reminded that occasionally it’s important to stop so you can honour the path you have... blazed. #MDrising #535consecutivehalfmarathons #weliveindeednotyears #kilometreking #unstoppable
