25.01.2022 Our virtual walk today is around Angkor in Cambodia. Angkor is one of the most important archaeological sites in South-East Asia. Stretching over some 400 km2, ...including forested area, Angkor Archaeological Park contains the magnificent remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire, from the 9th to the 15th century. They include the famous Temple of Angkor Wat and, at Angkor Thom, the Bayon Temple with its countless sculptural decorations. See more

15.01.2022 Much has happened since the bushfires that affected Victoria early this year. But we mustn’t forget about the communities impacted. And we haven’t. As I often ...say - Learn Locals are the heart of the community. They stepped up during the bushfires to offer accommodation, food and support. And now - despite Coronavirus - many are still delivering training for local residents. Training is such an important part of the recovery from bushfires. Skills for work and to help out in the community. It’s why we’re giving Learn Locals in bushfire-affected areas extra funding to increase training and support learners. Learn Locals such as Mount Beauty Neighbourhood Centre Inc., who were chuffed when I gave them the good news.

09.01.2022 #BeKindKnox Shout-out to Foothills Community Care - Community Meals that has been serving hot meals to those in need for nearly two decades. During COVID-19... they saw a huge surge in demand with their takeaway service increasing from around 220 meals a week to more than 900, while the demand for their Community Casseroles deliveries growing from 50 to more than 600 per week. CEO Stephen Barrington said the community has been showing great support. We have gone from a normal year where we distribute over 9,000 meals, to distributing over 26,000 so far this year, Stephen said. We rely heavily on donations, grants and fundraising, and because fundraising has come to a complete stop this year, we’ve relied heavily on the generosity of our community to donate. We’ve been really fortunate that we’ve been inundated with people who have donated their time this year we have gone from two food drivers a week to 15! Stephen said. Other than providing meals twice a week, Foothills Community Care also created special meals for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day to families in need of an extra hand. Partnering with Bayswater businesses Red Coral Seafood and Pinchapoo, 700 families received a fresh, gourmet meal created by some of Melbourne’s top chefs, along with a pamper pack. Red Coral Seafood contacted some chefs who were out of work due to COVID-19, and they brought us into the project because they knew we had the networks to find families in need, Stephen said. "Confoil in Bayswater donated thousands of takeaway containers for the meals as well. While Foothills Community Care has been providing support to the community, they’ve also been the recipients of some gestures of kindness. Read their full story here> https://bit.ly/FCCBekindstory

03.01.2022 A Poem to ponder on this sunny Monday - Some of us by Julie Sheldon - ... Some of us must stay at home And not go out the door Some of us are working Like we’ve never worked before Some of us are falling out With siblings, Dads, and Mothers Some of us are reaching out And looking after others Some of us are keeping busy Doing lots of jobs Some of us have given up We’re turning into slobs Some of us are playing games And learning brand new hobbies Some of us are still ‘no good’ And watching out for Bobbies Some of us have lots of friends To text with and to phone Some of us have no one And feel that we’re alone Some of us feel positive And think that we’re in charge Some of us feel anxious And fear the world at large Some of us have footpaths To cycle, walk, and jog Some of us have nowhere nice To even walk the dog Some of us are welcoming New babies being born Some of us have lost loved ones And cannot truly mourn None of us will ever know What’s really going on None of us will think the same When all of this is done All of us can choose to spend Our days in fear and dread..BUT All of us can choose to plan For better days ahead
