22.01.2022 While our usual Brisbane HOG ride didn't go to plan this year, the crew did get together for a social ride to raise funds for MDQ yesterday. Thanks so much to everyone who came along! It was a beautiful day for a ride - even if it was a little on the warm side!

21.01.2022 A survey worth completing.

21.01.2022 Today is R U Ok Day. This year more than ever we need to check in with each other and ask 'Are you ok?'. What happens when someone says they're not ok though? What do you do next? This helpful role play video from the team at R U Ok Day provides some hints and tips on what to say next if someone isn't ok. www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

20.01.2022 MDQ respects the new health directive released by the Queensland Government this morning. The health and safety of our clients and staff is always our highest priority. In response we will be making a few adjustments to services for the coming days. We have made a decision to cancel all face-to-face visits in the Greater Brisbane region for Monday 11 January. We will be in touch with anyone that this affects. Services will be provided online or by phone where possible. Our Su...nshine Coast physiotherapist will continue to provide services as usual and our plan management service will not be affected. Our office will be closed on Monday however all staff will be working. Please contact us via email or mobile phone if you need assistance. We are closely monitoring the situation and will keep you informed. You can read the directive here: https://www.qld.gov.au//current-/greater-brisbane-lockdown

20.01.2022 If youre looking for a reason to get out and about (in a socially distant appropriate way!) weve got something for you! Sadly we arent able to hold the Cairns Ride Walk Roll event this year But event founder Chris Wiles came up with a very impressive alternative! Chris has committed to riding the equivalent distance between the MDQ office in Brisbane and The Esplanade in Cairns from 8 August to 7 September. That's 1,680 kms over 30 days whatta guy!! Hes also aiming... to raise $10 per kilometre he rides. We thought wed help him out though and put a call out to see if others might be willing to save his legs and do some kms and fundraising for him. If youd like to join in and cover some kms (any way you like!), you can register for free here: https://ridewalkrollwithchris.gofundraise.com.au/cms/home

20.01.2022 ***Behind the scenes*** Some of the MDQ team and one of our wonderful clients are filming today to create videos and insight into what it is like to live with MD. These videos will appear on The Loop - Your Neuromuscular Resource Hub. Thanks to the team from Digital Black for working their magic and to the NDIS National Disability Insurance Scheme for funding this resource.

20.01.2022 Have you checked out the new videos on The Loop - Your Neuromuscular Resource Hub yet? You might recognise a few faces. Please share these videos with your friends and family!

19.01.2022 If you were the very kind person who popped into the Tomra Recycling Centre at West End over the weekend and donated your Containers for Change to us - THANK YOU! Did you know that you can donate the change from your recycled cans and bottles to MDQ? It's really simple and most recycling centres will let you do it on the spot or via your account. To find out more email [email protected] or call us on 3243 9700.

19.01.2022 If you haven't checked out the fashion from Christina Stephens we highly recommend you do! And Tracey, we love seeing you involved in this campaign!

19.01.2022 We're so disappointed to announce that we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Muscular Dystrophy & Brisbane HOG Charity RIDE for 2020 All registered participants have been contacted with additional information. 15.01.2022 Today is World Duchenne Awareness Day. On this day we raise awareness for Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy around the globe. The theme of this year's awareness day is 'Duchenne and the brain'. Did you know that the same protein that is missing in the muscle causing muscle breakdown, is also missing in the brain resulting in additional complications for those with the condition. In raising awareness this year we hope for early and appropriate testing, more research and better care on this aspect of the disease. [SOURCE: www.worldudchenneday.org]

15.01.2022 In light of the uncertainty of the COVID-19 situation in SEQ, we have made a decision to postpone our planned physiotherapy trip to Cairns. While none of our staff are affected and cases are still very low, the welfare of our clients is always our number one priority. We will closely monitor the situation and reschedule when we are confident that everything is back under control.

14.01.2022 Look who's coming back... Tien is returning to MDQ from Monday, July 27 as a Support Coordinator and we are very happy to welcome her back to the MDQ family! Tien is excited to return to MDQ and cannot wait to be back in the community assisting our clients.

13.01.2022 Best wishes for the festive season from the MDQ team!

12.01.2022 We were delighted to host Assistant Minister to the Deputy Premier and Health, Nikki Boyd MP, at our office in Nundah recently. We discussed the positive outcomes of the Queensland Health funding we are grateful to receive and also some of the challenges our clients face in gaining access to the care they need under their NDIS funding. Having the opportunity to meet with the Assistant Minister is so important to our organisation and we look forward to a continued relationship.

12.01.2022 As Greater Brisbane has gone into a 3 day lockdown, our staff are working from home for the period of the lockdown. Face-to-face appointments from our allied health team have been put on hold until after Easter. Support Coordination and Plan Management services will continue as usual on line or by phone. You can call the mobile number of the person you need to speak to and we are still able to answer and re-direct calls made to our office number (07) 3243 9700 The health and safety of our clients and staff is always our highest priority and we appreciate your understanding during these difficult times. 10.01.2022 We were wrapped when Jack (who is 12 and has SMA) and his sister Claire told us about their new business, selling 'burrito snugglies'. We were even more wrapped (pun intended!) when they told us they were donating 10% from the profits of their new business to three charities, of which MDQ are one. And you will be too once you grab one of these cosy snugglies. Check them out Snugglies

09.01.2022 Are you OK? Yesterday social media was flooded with this important question for R U OK? Day but its also important to remember to connect with friends and loved ones throughout the year as well. So many people have been feeling isolated this year and we want to change that. MDQs Get Connected program is reaching out to the neuromuscular community across Queensland and a calendar of events will be released next week. If you want connect, please contact us on 3243 9700 or email [email protected]

09.01.2022 MDQ is closely monitoring the latest cluster of COVID-19 cases in south-east Qld. Our staff are following strict infection control procedures but it is also vitally important that you let us know before an appointment if you or a member of your household is sick, or has had any recent contact with someone who is. The NDIA have now made allowances for those living in affected areas of Qld to access PPE. If you require PPE for your personal use whilst receiving supports, you can now access funding from consumables in your Plan. Providers who provide your Daily Activity supports will also be able to claim for PPE. More information about this can be found on the NDIS website https://www.ndis.gov.au/coronavirus/latest-advice-ndis

08.01.2022 Please join us in sending a huge thanks and good luck to Cassie and Dan. They were both meant to be running the Gold Coast Marathon this weekend however a global pandemic and illness has put them both to the test. Despite the challenges Cassie has stuck to her training plan and will be running her own marathon in Townsville this weekend with a few friends along the way as Dan cheers her on. They've also raised more than a whopping $2500 to support Queenslanders with MD in memory of Cassie's brother Luke who had MD and passed away 10 years ago.
