25.01.2022 Our Parish is upgrading its hall tables to a model that is lighter and easier to store. If you are in need of a table, or know someone who is, please contact the Parish office on 9809 3536 to arrange a pick up. We have around 20 tables that we no longer need. You will need to arrange your own collection after Mass on the weekend or between Tuesday to Friday during office hours. Please note these are heavy tables and are of varying quality so first come, first served, no hold

24.01.2022 Friends, many of you have been writing to me with questions about a COVID-19 vaccine. This week’s announcement that a Letter of Intent has been signed between o...ur government and AstraZeneca for a vaccine raises some important ethical questions because the vaccine in question makes use of a cell line cultured from an electively aborted human foetus. Whether this vaccine is successful or not, it is important that the government does not create an ethical dilemma for people. Along with the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney and the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Australia, I have written to the Prime Minister Scott Morrison, asking the government to pursue similar arrangements for alternate vaccines that do not raise the same ethical concerns, so that Australians will have a choice when it comes to vaccination. There are currently 167 vaccines being researched, many of which do not use foetal cells in their development. It is in the best interests of the community that vaccination is widely taken up and this deadly disease defeated, and this will better be achieved if the vaccines available do not create an ethical quandary. I’ll have more to say on this in next week’s Catholic Weekly. In the interim, you might like to make your desire for an ethical vaccine known to your local MP.

22.01.2022 As the Papal headlines got exaggerated, we find it necessary to provide some gathered information that might help all of you. #ShareTheTruth #iAmCatholic #Con...vivenciaCivil Pope Francis has spoken before to encourage parents and relatives not to ostracize or shun children who have identified as LGBT. This seems to be the sense in which the pope spoke about the right of people to be a part of the family. Pope Francis say NOTHING about same-sex marriage in the documentary entitled "Francesco". He never promote civil union but he is talking about the state to make a law in protecting homosexual people in their civil life from social rejection. This is what Pope Francis said: "Homosexual people have the right to be in the family. They are children of God, they have the right to a family. No one can be thrown out of the family, or make life impossible for that." "What we have to do is a civil coexistence law. They have the right to be covered legally. I defended that", he added. As you can see, where does Pope Francis say that he supports civil unions or civil marriage? The Holy Father used the term "Covivencia Civil" or Civil Co-existence and not Civil Same-Sex Unions. In the documentary, he speaks in Spanish and mistakenly translated in the provided English subtitles. Civil coexistence law that the Pope refers to is to protect homosexual people from mistreatment and social rejection in their own family circles. Pope Francis is defending what the Church has always defended, the dignity of the people, and is proposing civil laws to protect homosexuals from abuse in their own family environments, who are often rejected by their own parents, siblings, and relatives. Brethren, do not let yourself be FOOLED or manipulated by anyone. Pope Francis is not encouraging homosexual unions. His words are taken out of context. Headlines from mainstream media is a MISUNDERSTOOD, MISQUOTED, and MISINTERPRETED statement of the Pope. NOT CONVINCED? I humbly advise you to watch that documentary. Read and study the teachings of the Catholic Church. And never put your Catholic faith on the basis of what you hear and read on social media. God bless you! -Bro. Admin

22.01.2022 Next Friday 25 September, our school community will celebrate the Feast of our Patron- St Michael the Archangel. This is always a highlight of our calendar an...d our Year 6 students are helping to organise lots of fun games and activities for our students to enjoy on the day. As current covid guidelines for school communities preclude whole school gatherings and parents/carers on site, we are unfortunately still unable to physically gather with families for a whole school Mass. Instead we invite you to; - contribute a family photo/ drawing of your family for our St Michael's family mosaic which will be displayed on our front school gates. Your coloured square with family name was sent home with your child last week. If you need more squares or are part of our parish community and would like to participate, please let us know so we can arrange new squares for you. - send us a short video of your family saying "St Michael the Archangel, pray for us" and send it to us! If you speak a language other than English at home, please film saying it in this language! This will be added to our digital liturgy which we will pray together as a community on the day and which will be shared via this facebook page. Videos should be emailed to our REC via [email protected]. Remember to film in landscape setting not portrait! Big thanks in advance

17.01.2022 Can you help please? There are several families in our school and parish community going through a hard time right now. It would be really great if we could s...how them our love and support by cooking them a meal to share via our Meals for Mates freezer. We did a community batch cook up before the covid-19 lockdown but unfortunately stocks are now running low! If you'd like to get involved, all you need to do is cook a freezer friendly meal and pack in in a labelled foil tray and hand in to the school office. Foil freezer trays can be collected from the school office or otherwise you can easily buy them at Coles or Woolworths. Be sure to label your meal and list all ingredients and the date is was cooked. Great freezer recipes are savoury mince, mild curries, lasagne and meatballs but there's plenty of other ideas on the internet. It might also be nice to have a few vegetarian options too for families with special dietary needs. Thank you for your love and support! Also, if you know someone from our community who might need a meal right now, please get in touch so we can organise one to be provided! Have a great weekend St Michael's!

12.01.2022 Friends, tomorrow marks the 1st anniversary of the passing of the Abortion Law Reform Act 2019, which may be the worst law passed in NSW in modern times. Abort...ion on demand right upto birth has now been formally legalised in our state, but our commitment to life must continue, so that strong support is available to distressed pregnant women with any support or alternatives to abortion. I encourage you to support the Life Choice #notforgotten campaign on social media so that we can remind the broader public and our political leaders of the importance of protecting life so that every vulnerable woman and baby is supported and abortion becomes unthinkable. You’ll find more information about the campaign here: www.LifeChoice.org.au/notforgotten

08.01.2022 Friends, I know many of you are mourning the loss of one of our most inspirational priests, Fr John Langtry who died last Saturday. Fr John served in 14 parish...es across Sydney and the Central Coast since the early 1960s and was a missionary in Papua New Guinea for six years. He was well loved for the great pastoral care he always showed for his parishioners. Attendance at Fr John's Funeral Mass is limited due to COVID-19 restrictions, but I invite you to watch a livestream of the Mass on the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney Facebook page from 11am next Tuesday. The Mass will also be livestreamed directly on the parish website: https://www.johnthebaptist.org.au/ Let us remember Fr John's family in our prayers at this time. May he rest in peace.

02.01.2022 Friends, euthanasia is sadly back on the agenda in NSW with the independents putting pressure on the Premier to allow a Bill to be debated soon. For Christians..., dying well is giving witness to faith and hope, life and love to the end. We are called to protect the sanctity of life from conception to natural death and to do all we can to support palliative care over the sanctioned killing, euphemistically referred to as voluntary assisted dying. St Felix De Valois Bankstown is hosting a series of public talks across three Thursday nights, starting next week, 29 April, to explore this important moral issue. I encourage you to attend if you can and share the details with friends and family.
