20.01.2022 At Meals on Wheels WA we know the significant role good nutrition plays in our health and wellbeing, and therefore, in enabling older Australians to remain living independently at home. This includes eating enough energy, protein and micronutrients to support muscle maintenance and a strong immune system. With a plethora of ready-to-eat meal options on the market, it is confusing to decide what is best for you and what service will help you live and age well in your home.... Calorie restricted meals can make it challenging to meet the protein and micronutrient needs of older Australians putting them at an increased risk of muscle losses making them susceptible to falls and fractures, Kate Freeman, Registered Nutritionist and Managing Director of The Healthy Eating Hub says. Meals on Wheels meals are prepared to National Meal Guidelines, tailored to support the nutritional needs and wellbeing of older Australians. Providing meals that are rich in energy, nutrients and protein is an essential tool in supporting immunity, she says.

15.01.2022 You’ll find a Meals on Wheels service in almost every community and we are so proud of our rural services who go above and beyond to deliver nutritious meals and our all-important social and wellbeing checks from Monday to Friday, each week. Living rural can be isolating, but regardless of the distances required to visit each customer, our volunteers are committed to supporting their communities and form genuine connections and friendships with those they deliver to. In rur...al and remote Australia, I've seen Meals on Wheels become part of the bigger picture in tackling social isolation and loneliness, Maria Berry, Consumer Representative Advocate at Older Persons Advocacy Network says. 09.01.2022 Did you know undernutrition and poor nutrition are common health issues in Australia? Research shows that up to half of older Australians living in aged care or at home are either at risk of malnutrition or are malnourished. A cup of tea and toast simply won’t cut it! Eating a balanced diet and ensuring you consume enough energy (kilojoules), protein, vitamins and minerals is a key measure to prevent malnutrition and Meals on Wheels can help! Our nutritionally targeted meals..., delivered Monday-Friday by friendly volunteers ensures you meet your nutritional needs to protect you from undernutrition and support you to live independently and well in your home. Health Direct, a national, government-owned, not-for-profit organisation offering trusted health advice also recommends Meals on Wheels services in preventing malnutrition on their website.
