20.01.2022 The Meander Valley Council have decided not to appeal. Good news that more rate payers money will not be spent to support Teen Challenge with a Supreme Court appeal but they are yet to decide how they will move forward. Questions still to be answered include- Why are the Council using our rates to pay for legal representation bidding for Teen Challenge? It's time for the Meander Valley Council to walk away. 19.01.2022 Our dedicated volunteers have been working hard (well for an hour a week) to keep you warm. Wednesday mornings 10am for a light upper body workout followed by exotic coffee and cake to undo all that hard work! All welcome to come along, unless it's raining of course.

Also an ad placed by MARRA to encourage the community to offer ideas about what they want to see happen with the school site. 12.01.2022 Teen Challenge HOH are out! This is great news for Meander. Teen Challenge’s decision to pull out from the school site is fitting. We just wish that so much time and effort wasn’t needed to have our community’s wishes recognised. We have spent four and a half long years campaigning and fundraising to get to this point. Everyone agrees that rehabilitation services are desperately needed for women and children. But they need to be well-regulated, medically-based programs a...nd Teen Challenge is not such a program. Nor was the main street in the middle of a small town ever the right place for a rehab facility, no matter who runs it. We look forward to Council instigating a process that will ensure that the school site is used for the benefit of our local community, open to the enjoyment of all and growth of the local area. 10.01.2022 Good discussion here as JL supports TC. We are sorry her son didn't have a wider choice of services. MARRA supports regulated drug rehab programs that support the whole community. We believe the middle of a small county town isn't the right place. We believe TC are not the right providers and encourage state and federal governments to make sure good care and access to reputable drug rehabiltaion programs and women shelters is available...not passing the buck to anyone who may offer a "product" And the rest....

Thanks guys The market stall will be back this Saturday with NEW SEASON HONEY and GARLIC!! Get there early!! New volunteers always welcome for the market stall and timber gym.

08.01.2022 FIREWOOD GYM MARRA has been handed a gift on a plate. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings come for an hour or so at 9 am to load a ‘basket’ of fire wood (off cuts) at Timberworld Mill. Each basket will sell for $45!! Once you have found your way around, come at any time on those days to offer your time and energy; after all, what a great way to have a good upper body work-out and assist MARRA too!' It's a win- win!

07.01.2022 Todays Examiner. And we ask again..." Why has the Meander Valley Council used so much of ratepayers money to argue for this dubious organisation to lease the Meander Primary School site for $1 a year?" and also say again "We will never give up!" Most likely during this current Covid pandemic the proposed facility would not have been allowed to operate.

05.01.2022 Hello All. Our website has been updated with current news about the ongoing legal battle with the Meander Valley Council and Teen Challenge Tasmania. Please have a read. With recent events with the proposed Northern prison site (Westbury prison site) our MARRA thoughts and hearts are with the community of Westbury. Another example of NO community consultation or due process, the likes of which we have endured. Our campaign is over 3 years old and we have amassed large legal bills that we fund raise constantly to honour. All our very best wishes and support to the newly formed organisation WRAP Citizens opposed to the Westbury prison MARRA will not give up until a proper process is in place to determine the best use for the school site. http://marra.net.au

It is a very sad and alarming read.This shows the extreme measures an unregulated rehabilitation facility can get away with. Teen Challenge has had a lot of stories told about their dangerous methods and we say NOT in Meander or anywhere! We wish you well Olivia and thank you or sharing.

02.01.2022 Mondays Examiner Letter to the Editor. Great letter Peter Wileman and great to see the wider community is understanding the situation in Meander. We don't agree with the sentiments in the previous letter. Westbury is under going the same angst as we in Meander have by lack of community consultation and being ignored by the State Government and the Meander Valley Council.
