23.01.2022 Today our Samoan Business Spotlight is Mailelani @mailelanisamoa. We sold their products in the @measinasamoa store from day 1 because they are number 1! We fell in love with their skincare range while we lived in Samoa, not only did we know they were made from local Samoan ingredients, we loved that they made our skin feel like silk and smell like a tropical rainforest. ... Their range grew from soap to include skincare for the whole family. Definitely check out their website as their products are amazing and perfect for gifts for everyone, including yourself. 22.01.2022 If you want a really soft and fluffy cinnamon roll you need to let the dough rise twice. This means you need to wait hours for the dough to be ready to bake. Then you have to bake it. It is a long process and I do not suggest you make them while hungry. But when you pull apart the cushiony package to reveal the river of buttery cinnamon with an avalanche of cream cheese frosting your heart skips a beat (partly because it is not heart healthy food). It felt like a century ...to make, but the wait was worth it. Starting a business is like making cinnamon rolls on an empty stomach. You can see it is rising then boom a pandemic happens (yes I never thought those words would come out of my mouth either) and you have to let all the air out of your business and let it rise again. Then you roll out your new products and services because you learned to pivot in the face of uncertainty and put them out into the oven (or the internet). But nothing is happening. The oven takes a while to heat up. Then it takes time to cook. Once they are ready the result is delicious. Right now my oven is heating up and I can smell the success coming, my mouth is watering it smells so good. I just need to remember every oven is different and cooking times vary, make sure to follow your own timing because good things take time. Share some of your cinnamon rolls (new products or services) that have been baking during the pandemic in the comments so that we can all try them out. #measinamarketing #supportsmallbusiness #supportsamoanbusinesses #supportsamoanmade #supportsamoanbusiness
22.01.2022 During the Pandemic I did something that I would never have thought I would do and I made a huge investment for my business. I joined Brand Builders Academy. I have been listening to @suzchadwick's podcast for over a year and loved how she inspired me and made me want to do more. When I took her masterclass I just wanted the free class because I was in a pandemic and had just lost 80% of my business revenue.... When I heard that you get lifetime access to Brand Builders Academy my head was thinking ooh that's wonderful. It was the finance section that I didn't realise was a part of the academy that took me from maybe to take my money. It is the biggest investment into the business that I have made and it has been by far the most beneficial to date. Brand Builders Academy taught me skills and helped change my mindset so that I wake up each morning and show up as the CEO of my business. What are you doing today to be the CEO of your business? Tell me in the comments #measinamarketing #supportingsamoanbusinesses #supportingsmallbusinesses #betheceo
20.01.2022 Today I am doing a double Samoan Business Spotlight because I can First we have the amazing @ulaandherbrothers who handmade and hand printed these beautiful earrings and the stunning piece of art on the wall. I fell in love with Noelle's work a few years ago and we actually stocked some of her notbooks and cards in our store. Over time Noelle has continued to blow us away with her talent creating hand carved custom stamps and bespoke artwork. She also stole our heart when... she hand cut stencils of traditional Samoan motifs so that we could use them in our playgroups and incursions. Our second Samoan Business Spotlight for today is @tawshlav. Tawsh Lavatai is a digital artist who designs clothing, I am wearing her Feaus for days tshirt in this photo. I first met Tawsh when she released her first Samoan Calendar. The Calendar featured her gorgeous artwork and also taught us Samoan words, which we loved. Definitely check out her Etsy store and see how amazing her artwork is for yourself. If you would like to nominate someone for our Samoan Business Spotlight tag them below in the comments #measinamarketing #supportingsamoanbusinesses #supportingsmallbusinesses #BuySamoanMade

17.01.2022 Yesterday I didn't do much in my business. I drove around Melbourne making delivieries for a workshop on Friday. It was a must do as using a service would have cost too much and normal postage would not have gotten to the participants in time. I have not driven for more than 5 minutes in the last six months so 3 hours of driving had me stuffed. I got home and my IBS played up and so an afternoon of work turned into me laying down feeling like I was going to throw up.... I was disappointed in myself because I didn't get my steps in. I was stressed thinking about all the work that I needed to finish. But physically all I could do was lay down. This morning I woke up and luckily didn't feel queasy. It was a brand new day and with it brought a fresh beginning. While I was hard on myself last night, today I choose to remember that life happens and some things we cannot control. So I face today not upset for what I didn't do yesterday, but excited at the fresh beginning that a new day has brought. How are you facing today? #measinamarketing #supportingsamoanbusinesses #supportingsmallbusinesses #entrepreneurlife #mindfulness
16.01.2022 We all have a family member or friend who only has negative things to point out about your business. Not the constructive kind of advice, but the make you want to run to your room and cry negativity. To begin with, you need to distance yourself from those toxic people.... Then prove them wrong by being the most successful business person you can be! #measinamarketing #supportingsamoanbusinesses #supportsmallbusiness #marketingtips #entrepreneur #businessinspiration
15.01.2022 Our Samoan Business Spotlight is Tanoa Samoa @tanoasamoa. Beginning their journey in American Samoa, Tanoa have expanded and have stores in Samoa and Hawaii @tanoahawaii. When we first began the @measinasamoa journey, Tanoa Samoa saw our potential and allowed us to sell their products in our store. Their ability to mix the traditional Samoa with modern designs is a winning combination.... You can support them these holidays by purchasing from their online store through their profile @tanoahawaii Photo Credit @measinasamoa #measinamarketing #supportingsamoanbusinesses #supportingsmallbusinesses #samoan #samoanbusinessspotlight
15.01.2022 Procrastination is my best friend. We have been best friends ever since I can remember. Procrastination was there when I saw the pile of laundry and only put it in the washing when I ran out of clean undies. Procrastination was there when I knew the car needed petrol but I waited till the indicator was at E before heading to the petrol station.... Procrastination brings me peace. Procrastination is also my worst enemy. Procrastination means that I am putting off a task that will bring profit to my business. Procrastination stops me from doing what needs to be done to grow my business. Procrastination is the reason I missed a deadline. Is procrastination your best friend or your enemy? Procrastinating in your business could indicate that it is time to consider delegating or outsorucing a particular task. If you are procrastinating a task that only you can do, think about a time when you have the least distractions and where your mind is clearest and just get it done. You choosed wheter or not procrastination in your business is your best friend or your worst enemy. Share this post with someone who you think needs help with procrastination. #measinamarketing #supportingsamoanbusinesses #procrastination #timemanagement #betheceo

14.01.2022 We all have a passion but we also need money without strings attached. I have seen many Pasifika NGOs and community groups fail to see they are a business which led to reliance on grants and inability to do their work properly.
14.01.2022 We are featuring another Samoan author today because we can, but also because I feel many of us forget that being an author is a business. Lani Wendt-Young is my favourite author, not just because I know her. Lani is the first Samoan author who wrote books for me and about me. Characters that look like me and used words that I use, not fluffy I need a dictionary to understand language. Settings that are familiar to me because I lived in Samoa. Supporting Samoan authors mea...ns that we are making books for our people and about our people. Something that was not done in earlier history. If we want to see our people strive we need to be supporting the people who are making moves to make changes in the system. We deserve to have books about us available in libraries, in bookstores. We need to show up and tell the publishers there is a market for our Samoan authors. #measinamarketing #supportingsamoanbusinesses #supportingsmallbusinesses #samoanauthors #samoanwriters #wewantbrownbooks #bookreview

10.01.2022 Our Samoan Business Spotlight is another previous supplier to @measinasamoa. I have loved their products since I was a teenager (perks of being friends with the owner's daughter). 07.01.2022 I am the biggest chocoholic. During iso-1 I was eating a 7 serving packet of white chocolate covered raspberries almost daily, by myself. When I tried to ween myself off the chocolatey good stuff I was cranky and just craved it more. So I ordered Living Koko drinking Cacao and dark chocolate to try to tame my cravings.... I started with a cup of cacao in the morning and if I got a craving a bit of dark chocolate. It has been almost 3 months and I still start my day with a cup of cacao and I no longer crave chocolate. With only 1 kidney and a family history of diabetes and high blood pressure, reducing my chocolate intake was important to me. This is why @living_koko are our Samoan business spotlight for today. The fact they help Samoan communities and farmers and are concious of their impact on the environment are all bonuses to me. #supportpacific #samoa #indigenousfoods #measinamarketing #supportingsamoanbusinesses #supportsmallbusiness

05.01.2022 You will want to save this for the time you need a little more motivation Growing up Samoan I was quickly taught that I should be humble. That my success was great but I should never brag about it. When I did well I was quickly made fun of so that I remembered my place. As a business person this has hurt me. Not physically but mentally. The mentality that I should not let my extraordinary self shine meant that I don't talk about my business, I don't share what I am doi...ng with my family and friends, I sit down and keep it to myself. I can't attribute all of that to my upbringing, part of it is fear and laziness. The thing is that we have the control in this situation. We control our mindest. We control our fear. We control our laziness. As an entrepreneur we need to take all the chances to show up and be extraordinary. Are you going to let your mindest, fear and laziness be in control? or are you going to take all the chances to show that you are extraordinary? #measinamarketing #supportingsmallbusinesses #supportingsamoanbusinesses
05.01.2022 I was on the brink of closing Measina Treasures of Samoa @measinasamoa last year. It was just too much. I didn't know how to move it forward and I didn't know where to get support. I just wanted to stop, find a "real job" as my brother puts it, and just get on with my life. Then I thought about the long commutes on public transport, having to clock in and out, and the need to get dressed all fancy and wear really uncomfortable shoes and my heart sunk. I was sad because it ...meant that I had to do the work someone else wants done. I would not have the freedom to do what I am passionate about and what brings me joy. Passion brought me here today. Today, we have launched Tamaiti, a successful children's video subscription, we launched our online siva afi classes, refreshed them and launched them into a forever Siva Afi Beginer's Course and we are working on a project that I am so excited about, because it is what our followers wanted. Where is your passion leading you? Share this with someone you think should follow their passions. #measinamarketing #supportingsamoanbusinesses #passion #businesspassion #lifeofanentrepreneur

03.01.2022 Our Samoan Business Spotlight is a Not for Profit based in Sydney. @learning_oceania make books and learning resources for Pacific learners. Their books are in English but include Samoan words so that younger learners are still able to understand and follow along with little knowledge of Samoan.... We love that the flash cards are laminated so they are more durable. The addition of a ring means you can keep them together without trying to stuff them back into a small cardboard box. Their resources are also available in Tongan. Have you supported a Samoan business today? #measinamarketing #supportingsamoanbusinesses #supportingsmallbusinesses #learnsamoan #samoanbusinessspotlight
02.01.2022 I am writing to say goodbye...for now. 2020 has taught me I need to reduce my stress. One way I will do this is by concentrating on the things I love and that bring me joy.... Helping you all learn more about marketing made me happy, but didn’t make me money to feed, clothe and house my family. Once I have streamlined and made @measinasamoa the success I know it can be then I will return to share my knowledge with you all. Until then, here are some fabulous Samoan accounts to help your business grow: @ama_lashfix @helleneahchong @inkwellcommunic8 @hipstermumsocial @tima_talks @justinsua Thank you for your support and see you all sooner rather than later
