15.01.2022 LiDAR uses millions of individual geo-tagged laser returns to generate a point cloud of the area being scanned, with GPS aligned points. Those millions of location-known laser points combine to form a 3D map. Even in areas with heavy vegetation, LiDAR laser points will make it to the surface - see examples of removing differently tagged vegetation, structures, infrastructures in LiDAR maps. #LiDAR #Mapping #Infrastructure #Drones

05.01.2022 LiDAR is incredibly useful and can also be beautiful! This image shows about 30 sq kilometres. The deep blue is a dry riverbed, becoming more shallow in areas water barely reaches. Speckled red are primarily treetops, and the orange is scrub and shrubs. This #LiDAR series is useful and used in a #energy #renewables project right now, and we also admire the #natural beauty reflected.

"Tedious", "time-consuming", and "expensive" are terms used often used by those people tasked with the inspection and maintenance of those vast networks - however "vital" and "necessary" are the terms we commonly use to reflect the work they do.
