25.01.2022 Yesterday’s visitors! Great people. I meet so many great people, that is why i love my job and why i have tours. Tours are now operating on Fridays at 10.30am. So if you are planning a trip to King Island don’t forget to pencil it in. Lots to see at the moment! #farmtours #tasmaniafarmtours #whattodoonkingisland #visitkingisland #kingislandexperiences #tours #farm #meatyourbeef #kingislandtours #kingislandfarmtours #kingisland #tasmania

25.01.2022 Meet the new boys on the block! Fresh from @landfallangus, these boys have been selected to join our heifer in November. They are only 1 year old but mature enough for joining, plus they will be just the perfect size for them. They are specifically selected for a low birth weight, low gestational length, high calving ease and above average growth figures. #angusbulls #ebvs #heiferbulls #lowbirthweightbulls #beef #cattle #breeding #genetics #cattlegenetics

25.01.2022 Lala is now trained to come to the car window and tell me how the calving heifers are going. No need to get off the car. Because she will be a second time mum this year, she is able to give all the calving tips to the first time mums #lala #hereford #handraised #petcow #favouritecow #farming #farmer #meatyourbeef #animals #animallover

24.01.2022 People often ask me if I have favourites. If you have been following this page for a while you know that I do. Lala, the special cow, she definitely has a lot of personality, more obedient then my dogs or horse. Love her. She isn’t part of the mob, Lala is a pet, and that’s ok. I usually use Lala to show guests where the different cuts of beef come from, it is pretty funny . #petcow #lala #hereford #cow #herefordcow #meatyourbeef #beef #cattle #farm #farming #loveforanimals #specialpets

24.01.2022 Shopping King Island Style, super low km food, just from down the road from our beautiful neighbour’s kids This reminds me of an important conversation. I am from a time (and I am not that old) where we were allowed to buy or swap food from neighbours, including meat. Back then (and I Know there’s still some clever people around), we trusted that our neighbours knew what they were doing and we also knew how to distinguish good product from bad products, for example, we would ...check the eggs before we cooked them. We knew our neighbours took the care and had the skills to provide us with safe, clean and good quality meat. Now we are not allowed to legally buy meat from our neighbours, due to safety concerns and requirements. I understand the need for them, but I just wished we could go back in time, when we all ate healthier and when WE HAD THE RESPONSIBILITY to choose where we were getting our food from. #knowwhereyourfoodcomesfrom #goodfood #lowmileagefood #grownatural #eatnatural #neighboursproduce #shoppingkingislandstyle #regionalaustralia #buylocal #eatlocal #freshfood @ King Island Farm Tours - Meat your Beef

24.01.2022 Covid sucks, but it has been a great motivation for Tasmanians to visit their own island and smaller islands like King Island! Doing tours to Tasmanians is being great as we kind of speak the same language, the climate and culture is relatable, plus we have the chance to make some friends to visit later. Today the apple and cherry farmers met the beef farmer! #tasmaniantourism #islandhome #visitkingisland #makeyourselfathome #travelintasmania #meatyourbeef #farmtours #thingstodoonkingisland #northwesttasmania

23.01.2022 What a great bunch!! 4 different groups today and just can’t believe how amazing they ALL were! Such great people. 23.01.2022 Moooo moooo Moving cows and calves can be a lot of fun for the kids. Calves are so hard to move because they want to go back to their paddock and they hate puddles. Did you see Alice giving that calf a cuddle? #movingcalves #calving #calving20 #anguscalves #angus #baldycalf #farmtours #meatyourbeef #kingisland #visitkingisland

23.01.2022 How much do you know about cattle breeds? Is there any that you prefer over others? In our enterprise, we have around 75-80% pure angus and the remaining are crosses between different breeds Although we love angus, they are a great breed to work with, super efficient, good behaviour, great genetics that just get better and better and the fact that our customers prefer angus, there’s one that we love more, and that is a cross bred animal. Cross breeding is a great way to achie...ve better productivity for free. If you mix 2 different (good) genetics (breeds) you generally get more kg in that cross, that is called hybrid vigor. You also get better fertility and better animal health in general. I like to compare it to your pedigree dog versus the mongrel dog Is there any difference in meat quality? Generally not, but it depends what breeds you are using, and what is your goal. #knowyourbeef #beefscience #meatscience #animalbreeding #cattlebreeds #crossbreeding #cattle #beef #cattlebreeding #meatyourbeef #farming #cattlefarm #kingisland @ King Island Farm Tours - Meat your Beef

22.01.2022 Have you seen the new travel vouchers available from the 7th of September? You can use $50 per person voucher towards an experience like our tours (you can have a tour and lunch at a cost of $15 if you get the voucher) and $100 towards accommodation (we also have accommodation) What are you waiting for?? Tasmanians, if you ever wanted to visit King Island, now is the time! C’mon!!! 22.01.2022 Top 7 MUST HAVE experiences on King Island. Guess who is part of it?

20.01.2022 Jazz inspecting the bulls to make sure they are good for joining later in November. Today we had all of our 20 bulls in the yards to give them a drench, trace elements and to check if they are fit for joining. It is important to keep them in good health and in a rising plane of nutrition to maximise semen production. Sperm takes about 45 days to produce so it is important that they have no infections or set backs from now on. #bulls #treatingbulls #prejoining #yards #stockyards #quarterhorse #animals #farm #farming #cattlefarm #ageducation #beeffarm #meatyourbeef #agriculture #tasag #tasmaniaagriculture #ausag #australianagriculture

20.01.2022 My table is: - a honest table - a simple table - a large table (fits anyone) - a warm table... - a welcome table If you are coming here expecting fancy food, forget about it. I am all for flavour, local produce, simply cooked, from the heart. I am not a chef, I am a cook, that loves feeding people with food that is cooked with love. Food from the heart. 100% of my ingredients are sourced locally or bought from local businesses because I believe that what goes around comes around (in a good way) #farmtours #localproduce #paddocktoplate #bigtable #longtable #meatyourbeef #homecook #lovecooking #tours

19.01.2022 Do you think of butchering as a man's job? These women might change that.

18.01.2022 Look at this!!! No more excuses! Time to visit. Tell your friends

18.01.2022 Our Lala is a Mum again for the second time. She was doing great. Beautiful little calf. Proud grandmother here. Lala is one of our 754 calving cows this year. #lala #babycalf #hereford #baldy #calf #calving2020 #farming #meatyourbeef #secondcalver #agriculture #breeder

17.01.2022 Never saw a calf being delivered?? This is your chance. Warning: not for the hyper sensitive people. I will give everyone an update tomorrow on how the mum and calf are going (this happened at 5.30pm today) Enjoy

16.01.2022 That feeling when you are doing a good deed. Being surrounded by nature and being actively involved in protecting it and enhancing it, gives me a warm heart In a previous post I said that this year we are protecting all of our bush on the farm with the help of @tfga111 I have never mentioned but I am also a volunteer and treasurer for our local King Island Natural Resources Management Group and a committee member of the Cradle Coast NRM group. I work for free but in ret...urn I get to see the change i want happen. I consider myself a green farmer, and I am incredibly proud of it. 15.01.2022 I wanted to post this as, in a farm, despite all the nice photos and posts that you see on social media, not everything is easy. Here is the story: we check our calving heifers 2x per day, morning and afternoon. We need to do this because they are 1st time mums and sometimes they can have trouble giving birth or calf might be breach. Checking them 2x day, we can make sure they will all be ok. We also use bulls that have low birth weight to minimise problems. Yesterday we real...ised that one of them was having trouble late in the afternoon and brought her to the yards, so we can pull the calf safely (for cow). We had a few issues getting her to the yards so end up doing this in the dark. Unfortunately the calf was dead but the heifer (cow) is doing well. We had dinner at almost 9pm with the kids (at least it was Friday night) Anyway, life on the land is not always easy and looking after animals is a huge responsibility! If we had left this heifer, she would have been dead in the morning. But we do it because we care, they are OUR responsibility #farming #calving #farminginthedark #thejoysoffarming #farmingfacts #thankafarmerforyournextmeal #meatyourbeef #stockyards #meetyourfarmer #ageducation

14.01.2022 Showing off my favourite cow - Lala, to my guests today. Another tour done and dusted. Our tours operate every Friday (unless otherwise stated in the website) but we can also offer private tours at different days depending on the size of the group and days. It’s really interesting and fun activity to do with a group of friends and/or family and I love doing groups as you already know eachother so there’s no breaking the ice. #farmtours #meatyourbeef #visitkingisland #whattodoonkingisland #thingstodoonkingisland #kingislandfarmtours #kingislandtours #tourism #kingislandtourism #tastourism #beeffarm #paddocktoplate #cattlefarm #hereford

12.01.2022 Happy Fathers day to all dads out there! Our dads on the farm know nothing about sharing the load, the cows do it all, lucky they have a lot of friends around. Our boys just stick to doing their job for 2 months and then rest in the bull’s club for 10months. 11.01.2022 Let the fun begin - calf marking is underway. What is calf marking you might ask? At calf marking we castrate the male calves, give them their first vaccine and tag them. A vaccine gives them first protection for many diseases, especially clostridial diseases, castration I can do a whole post about it, but basically improves meat quality, they get 2 tags, one is a management tag and the other one is an electronic tag Keep sliding the photos and you can find more details. ... The Management tag has a letter that determines the year they were born (R this year, next year will be S), a management number and our trading name - GADO. The electronic tag can be scanned and identifies the property they belong to and it is used for traceability and also management. You can see Tom in the race with the calves doing the castration. Yes he does get a few kicks, sometimes in not so pleasant places ! #calfmarkingexplained #calfmarking #calfmarking20 #cattlemanagement #meatyourbeef #stockwork #cattlework #beef #cattle #cattlefarm #beeffarm #beeffarming #grassfed #agriculture #zootecnia

10.01.2022 Due to health reasons, I am putting tours on hold. Hopefully I can get back into action soon. Poor Tom is handling farm, kids and puppies all on his own. 09.01.2022 10hours in the yards today doing this and dealing with a non-working head bail that made our life really difficult . We are giving all our weaners a long-acting drench @virbac_australia and a white drench to set them up for winter. At this time of the year, weaners are very susceptible to parasites (internal) and by doing this you’re setting them up for success in winter (good health, good weight gain). Not treating them for parasites will lead to sickness and death. King ...Island being a wet and mild environment, makes perfect conditions for parasites to live and survive in pastures. Our job is to understand our environment and manage it accordingly with animal welfare as top priority as well as looking after our environment (fauna, flora and soil). #animalwelfare #preventingparasites #treatinganimals #stockwork #cydectinglongacting #whitedrench #cows #cattle #beef #animalhusbandry #animalcare #farmers #longdays

08.01.2022 Yesterday I cooked for some friends the most amazing hot sandwich in Portugal- Francesinha! It is sooo good. Might give you a heart attack but completely worth it! It is made with steak, ham, hot salami, cheese, egg and bread topped with an amazing tomatoey spicy sauce and chips, because carbs. Ok, you can’t eat this every weekend but once in a while it’s completely worth it #francesinha #hotsandwich #steaksandwich #beefrecipes #portugueserecipes #cooking #beef #meatyourbeef #paddocktoplate #nothealthy

06.01.2022 Is it a Wagyu?? Noo. Is it a super cow?? YES MSA marbling of 730!! This is a 2 year old black baldy heifer dressing 358kg (almost 700kg liveweight!) with a marbling equivalent to a wagyu or more. All 100% pasture fed! 05.01.2022 Got a parcel in the mail today from my good friend @a_rural_mum Beth Rosser. She definitely knows the way to my heart . She send me this card . Cooking for people is great, but any chef /cook will understand this if you have to cook for a group of people with all sorts of food requirements . I have no problems accommodating to food intolerances but when someone says to do it whatever free, and then come on a tour and, after me cooking them something special and different they decide that they will have what everyone else is having . Anyone else experienced the same? #cooking #foodpreferances #cookingforpeople #chefsproblems #getataxi #cookingjokes #jokes

04.01.2022 Beesy day today, sent off over 150 steers. Going to another farm in Tasmania allowing us to grow more pasture for the next lot of weaners. Someone will be very lucky to have these guys, they are in top condition. The day was a bit horrible to be loading cattle, it was very hot and animals were a bit agitated (understandable), i wasn’t very happy either, but we got there in there in the end. Also managed to catch a swarm of bees while waiting for trucks.
