25.01.2022 Humans of MECA- Jerrel Joseph This time we would like to introduce Jerrel Joseph. Jerrel is our ex-student placement and current volunteer. His passion and desire to help community has pulled him to join MECA. He assists the clients with JP service and other people works. He has done his Diploma in Youth work so he loves to help and support the young people in need. He understands the people going through rough time well without any judgement. Jerrel is from Fiji. He is v...ery friendly in nature and loves to talk to people. The best part about him is that he respects everyone. Besides helping people, he loves fishing, swimming and playing sports. Rock and roll music and actions moves attracts him too. He likes to travel to new places, cooking and gardening. Jerrel wants to do his best for the local community and native people. His future plan is to provide better services for the people who are struggling in their life. Jerrel says, I feel very excited to work at MECA because MECA has been a home to me, especially the management and staff are so friendly and helpful, so I have been inspired and encouraged to work here. 24.01.2022 Humans of MECA - Puja Hello again! Today we would like to introduce you to Puja Subedi. Puja is from Nepal and has been in Australia for a year and a half. Puja is currently studying a Masters of Social Work through the Australian College of Applied Psychology. She has been at MECA since late June completing her student placement hours as part of her studies Puja is currently apart of many programs here at MECA including Womens Health program, Youth Mentoring and has been ...involved in making reports and assisting our community at the front desk Puja loves cooking, making new friends and finds it very fun to dance. A fn fact about Puja is that she is an introvert but when she gets to know someone very well and is very comfortable she becomes extremely talkative! After Puja completes her Masters of Social Work she would love to go back to Nepal and work in and with her community that she was born in. Puja expresses that she is enjoying her time here at MECA. She says the environment and the people here are very friendly. She is really proud to be apart of the MECA family and community Make sure to say hello to Puja before she finishes her time here at MECA

18.01.2022 Humans of MECA I would like to introduce you all to Yousef. Yousef has been working at MECA since late 2009 as a bilingual case manager. Yousef has been helping to assist refugees and migrants to settle down in Australia, as well as providing support with issues regarding migrations, settling into life in Australia and any further matter that may come to attention. Primarily during Covid-19 Yousefs work has been associated with assisting the community certifying documents a...s a Justice of the Peace Yousef was born in Soufar, in Lebanon although his nationality is Syrian. In Yousefs spare time he enjoys reading a book, listening to a wide array of music and gardening, whether that be at home or in our garden at MECA. Yousef enjoys all types of food, especially dishes that reflect his cultural background Throughout Yousefs work, he has assisted with establishing a driving program, information sessions to help our clients understand the laws and regulation within Australia, citizenship classes and several other programs which help our clients to improve in various aspects of their life. Research shows that people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds experience higher rates of adverse outcomes from poor medication management, including medication related hospital admissions. 05.01.2022 Humans of MECA - Naoko Yasuda Introducing to you, Naoko Yasuda, our awesome volunteer here at MECA! Naoko Yasuda has been here for 1 and a half years and came to Australia 2 years ago. She comes out to MECA garden throughout the week to help with maintenance and ensuring the gardens flourishes.... Previous to volunteering at MECA, Naoko took part in and completed a horticultural class. Since then Naoko has become MECAs very own Garden Coordinator. Naoko said her favourite thing is the garden and being outside. She has expressed her love for seeing the garden grow and the plants sprouting fruit and vegetables. Naokos favourite food is anything that has meat in it. She said in particular she loves a Korean barbecue and all Japanese dishes that reflect her cultural heritage. When Naoko cooks, she likes to use the fresh ingredients straight out of the garden. Naoko LOVES being outside as this is what makes her comfortable. If you see her around at MECA please say hello and have a chat with her

01.01.2022 MIXED WALKING GROUP Put your walking shoes on and come down to MECA at 10:30am on Thursday. We will be doing a 45 minute walk around Mount Druitt at the same time each week. Feel free to bring your pet! This walking group is open to both men and women. In keeping with social distancing guidelines, we will be asking that everyone signs our register in the morning, and brings a mask with them.
