20.01.2022 CHRISTMAS IN MARCH? You’d be excused for thinking it is the festive season with the amount of lights on the instrument cluster of a vehicle that presented at the workshop During the installation of an LPG fuel system quite some time ago two braking system relays were unbolted to make way for an LPG component... They were never relocated; in fact they were pushed aside and left upside down under some other components The end result is some heavily corroded relays and a malfunctioning braking system

19.01.2022 BRAKE FLUID + MOISTURE = Most brake fluids are hygroscopic, meaning they will absorb moisture when exposed to air The main enemy of brake fluid is moisture; it can be absorbed through brake lines or the brake fluid reservoir and is exacerbated in more humid conditions and climates... This also extends to storage, as large containers of fluid continually opened and closed for decanting into smaller containers repeatedly exposes the fluid to the atmosphere (a large container that has been stored for a long time may already have more moisture in it than your vehicle does) What happens? The increased moisture content reduces the boiling point of the brake fluid, and in turn it increases the risk of having a spongy brake pedal and decreased braking performance The solution? Use smaller, sealed bottles when replacing your brake or clutch fluid as the chances of moisture contamination is minimised Mechanicare - Yes we can

14.01.2022 COOLING SYSTEM LEAKS We detected a large leak from the thermostat/water pump assembly during a routine service on a customer’s vehicle The water pump, which on this vehicle is driven by a small belt behind the housing, had leaked into the alloy housing and caused large amounts of corrosion ... Out with the old, and in with the new... a leak-free car and a worry-free owner Mechanicare - Yes we can

12.01.2022 WARNING: DISTURBING IMAGES We discovered this towbar disaster on a new customer’s vehicle during a routine service... WOW Fortunately, the customer hadn’t towed anything since purchasing the vehicle not that long ago... It appears it was salvaged from something else, and retrofitted terribly using tech screws for not only mounting but also as a hitch pin substitute There is nothing right about this, and any towing would inevitably result in an accident or worse If you are towing anything, please don’t take any shortcuts with safety; it just isn’t worth the risk

12.01.2022 Did you feel the temperature drop overnight, and it had you reaching for your slippers and dressing gown this morning? Your battery felt it too! In colder temperatures car batteries work a lot harder, and their ability to provide sufficient power to start and run your vehicle is reduced It is fast becoming the time of year that your battery is more likely to fail, and why you might feel your battery start to become sluggish... Sometimes there is no warning at all... it... just... stops! If you would like a FREE battery health check, or need a replacement right now, simply drive in and see us Mechanicare - Yes we can

11.01.2022 Knock knock. Who’s there? No, this is no joke, it is the well known steering knock in the Hyundai i30 Power steering in the i30 has a motor attached to the side of the steering column as the steering is electrically assisted... A small plastic bush resides inside that motor, and over time it wears excessively and creates a loud knocking noise It is recommended to have this repair completed as soon as practicable as prolonging the repair creates opportunity for other, more costly, components to fail and require replacement Hearing a noise that just doesn’t sound right? Call us on 5473 0164, or just drop in! Mechanicare - Yes we can

10.01.2022 Safety certificates, cracked oil cooler, air conditioner high pressure switch blown off, air conditioner stuck on heat, leaking fuel injectors, front rotors and caliper kits, cracked exhaust manifold and leaking welch plug (pictured below) and some services too Just some of what we have in today... you should see tomorrow! 09.01.2022 Guaranteed to happen when you are dressed to the nines!

06.01.2022 Regularly checking your tyre pressures isn’t glamorous, but it can save you a lot of money over the life of your vehicle For the most accurate results check tyre pressures when they’re still cold before you have driven too far Underinflated tyres: reduced fuel economy, increased emissions, increased wear on outer edges of tread... Overinflated tyres: possible impact breaks, decreased braking performance, increased wear in centre of tread Need a hand? We’ll show you, obligation free and free of charge Mechanicare - Yes we can

04.01.2022 Heard of both but unsure if they are the same thing? Let’s help clear things up a little...

04.01.2022 A great review from a great customer We appreciate your support Kurt!

03.01.2022 Placing your car in storage, or going away for an extended period of time? If it is safe to do so, consider leaving the parking brake (commonly referred to as the handbrake) off and chocking the wheels instead Leaving the parking brake on can create issues with the cable sticking or binding, or the brake shoes/parking brake shoes (depending on your vehicle's brake set-up) locking or fusing on... It might save you from the cost of an expensive repair
