20.01.2022 Hey past students! Some of you will remember the challenges of doing your year 12, this year's students are managing that with the added pressure of being in a pandemic. We would like to put together a video of past students encouraging the Class of 2020. 19.01.2022 Past student, Ben van der Werff (class of '13) recently met current student, Gabi (JP) when she dropped of some groceries the families in her class had collected for the ASRC Foodbank. Ben studied a BA majoring in Conflict Studies and Chinese and volunteered for a year at the ASRC before becoming the Reception Coordinator. Ben spoke to Gabi about how instrumental MECS was in instilling the values that encouraged and supported him to do the work he does now, and said he doesn’t know if he would be doing the work he is now if it wasn't for his time at MECS. Well done Ben, not only on your studies and what you are doing, but also for encouraging Gabi, the next generation of MECS students. https://www.facebook.com/ASRCFoodbank/

18.01.2022 Congratulations to Tiffany Boer (class of '11) from Little Reds Patisserie in Wallan, who took out second prize with this cake at the Royal Melbourne Show this year. The cake took 3 weeks to create, is made from 4.5kgs of cake and 8kg of Fondant and Modelling chocolate. Everything is entirely handcrafted from scratch with no use of moulds. 11.01.2022 Vale Gavin Boloski We were saddened to learn of the death of Gavin Boloski on the weekend from motor neurone disease. For fourteen years, Gavin was our Centre Trip and Canberra coach driver. Each year, Gavin made a point of getting to know every single student and staff member on Centre Trip. He was never just the coach driver, he truly became ‘one of us’. A New Zealander by birth, his passion for the outback of his adopted country was evident and he loved sharing his knowledge with us; especially trying to hoodwink unsuspecting students into believing that Mount Conner was Uluru. He was loved dearly by those of our community who had the privilege of journeying with him and he will be deeply missed. Fiona Haynes (nee Weeks, class of '84) and current MECS Library Manager.

11.01.2022 Hey past students, we are working on MECS ReConnect and would love to publish your news - graduations, engagements, weddings, babies etc. send them to [email protected]

10.01.2022 Congratulations to Laura Hoffman (class of '06) who graduated with a Doctorate in December 2018. Laura's PhD was: A Cross-Linguistic Investigation of Reliablity of Measurement of Stuttering Severity. Laura examined speech pathologists’ reliability of measuring severity of stuttering with a rating scale, in three languages: English, Vietnamese and Mandarin. Speech pathologists were able to reliably measure severity of mild and severe stuttering, regardless of their familiarity with the language, but their use of the scale for moderate stuttering was variable. Laura’s research provides guidance for measuring stuttering severity in research and clinical practice. Laura currently is working as a lecturer at Charles Sturt University (Albury Campus) in Speech Pathology.

04.01.2022 A message from Rog - If you have some spare time next month, would you please consider donating blood. COVID has had a significant impact on blood donor numbers. Statistically, 1 in 3 people in the Yarra ranges will need blood, and they need people like you to give it. The blood bank will be set up at Lilydale Baptist Church from 14 September to 18 September. So if you are well and are able, please go to: donateblood.com.au, or on their app or on 13 14 95. Blood donating is exempt from the 5km travel restriction. https://www.donateblood.com.au/

04.01.2022 We are pleased to share with you our latest sculpture by past-student and award-winning Chainsaw Carver, Brandon Kroon (class of '11). This work was commissione...d to recognise and celebrate the service of Martin Hanscamp, Principal of Mount Evelyn Christian School, from 2002-2013. Martin continues to be a passionate supporter of Christian education, and the biblical truth that ‘’in Christ, all things hold together (Colossians 1:17). I’m sure you will agree that this is a fitting representation of that truth and of Martin’s service over many years. https://www.facebook.com/BKCarving/ See more
