17.01.2022 It was my privilege today to mount the originals medals and two sets of replicas for 2589 LCPL Clarence Merrell. Clarence enlisted on 11 Sep 14 when he was 20 years old. He was allocated to the 1st ANZAC Railway Supply Detachment. A picture of the unit when it was formed in Sydney is part of this group of pictures. Clarence can be seen in the third row, third from the left. He departed Australia on HMAT Berrima (A35) and landed on the Gallipoli peninsula on 25 Jun 15. A pic...ture of the Berrima and the ANZAC Light Railway which linked ANZAC Cove with the North Beach is also included in this group. After being evacuated from Gallipoli he was stationed at Alexandria and Ismalia before landing at Marseilles in France on 13 Jun 16. After the ANZAC Leave for 1914 enlistees was announced by Prime Minister Billy Hughes on 17 September 1918, Clarence departed for Australia on 24 September and arrived in Sydney on 04 December 1918. He as discharged on 03 February 1919. More information on the HMAS / HMAT Berrima and the NSW Railway workers who served in WW1 is available below. http://www.navy.gov.au/hmas-berrima https://nswrailwaysremember.com.au/story-2.php

09.01.2022 For those of you who have an interest in Australian history, please do yourself a favour and check out my Brother's podcast. Fantastically researched!

04.01.2022 Yesterday I had to take my car to Wangaratta to have a few things fixed. Whilst I was walking back from town to the car dealership, for no particular reason, I decided to walk on the opposite side of the road to where the dealership was. I am very glad I did because I stumbled on the memorial plaque for 483 PTE Percy Tippet D Coy, 6th Bn AIF. Percy was one of the original enlistees when he signed his attestation papers on 17 Aug 1914. He was 19 years old, a railway porter by ...trade (His parents residence was the Wangaratta railway station), he was 5' 6 1/2" tall, with a fair complexion, brown eyes and red hair. Mortally wounded during the landing on 25 April 1915, he was evacuated to the transport ship 'Seam Choon'. He did not recover from his wounds and died on 28 April 1915. He was buried at sea by the Rev A Gillison on 30 April 1915. His father received his memorial scroll and plaque on 26 Dec 1921 and his service medals the following year.

01.01.2022 Just thought I would share a photo I took at Exercise Chong Ju today.
