12.01.2022 Imagine the stress for a cat going to the vet for a urine spraying problem. Typically, a vet visit can take more than an hour from the time the cat is placed in its basket to travel to the vet. There’s the wait in reception - often with dogs - being examined by the vet staff with urine attempted to be extracted from a now stressed and cranky cat. Then it’s back in the cat basket, waiting for the urine results, waiting at reception to pay the bill, back in the car to travel h...ome then finally released from the basket. You could guarantee that the cat will spray urine after that sequence of events. Instead, the spraying problem could be observed by the vet via video (either live or recorded), the history gathered without the cat needing to be present, a urine sample could be collected by the owner from a clean litter tray at home to be presented to the vet practice for testing and payment for the consultation automatically deducted from the pet owner’s credit card. If necessary a vet visit could then be arranged but this time the vet has a lot of information already, reducing the examination time and honing in on the problem. If the cat is young or in a multi cat household and the problem observed appears to be behavioural, then medication may be able to be dispensed without a vet visit. Behaviour modification techniques can be discussed including reducing stress like unnecessary vet visits, especially if the cat was seen recently for a check up or routine vaccination.
