24.01.2022 Why do you need a plan before you start approaching journalists? Contacting journalists without a plan is kind of just like stabbing in the dark, a scatter gun approach to doing media is never that successful or long lived. Instead, you want to be strategic in your approach, thinking about your organisational priorities and key announcements that are really going to drive interest and engagement across your organisation. ... You want your plan to be consistent and include announcements over the course of a year. Each month you can update that plan and look at the key areas of focus. It's always easier for a media professional to work with you when you're actually doing tangible things in areas of interest for the media and the public. And when you are driving big investment. For example: Are you driving innovation in key areas? Are you investing in research? Are you investing in building upgrades? education? What problems are you solving for government and communities?

19.01.2022 Would you like to become a social media influencer and gain attention online in 2018? We need your help! Right now at The Media Institute, we are flirting with an idea that is very exciting for us. ... But this idea needs to be exciting for you, more than anything else! So, this is where we want your input... Were thinking of running a 5 day (all inclusive) retreat in Bali with 10 emerging (or aspiring) bloggers, solopreneur's, Instagramers and vloggers. It would look something like this (poolside in the tropical Bali sunshine): Day #1 Social media marketing and sponsored content training. Blueprints to build a raving fan audience (and community) on key social media platforms so you can break out of obscurity into the social spotlight. Day #2 PR mastery. Strategies to market your brand and content to journalists for regular media exposure and rapid brand awareness, leveraging the media to generate overnight mass attention. Day #3 Storyboarding and presenting training. Learn processes to be engaging on camera and how to tell the best story so the marketplace consumes, shares and subscribes to (follows) your content on social media. Day #4 Creating video content. Create premium video content live, at the retreat (in beautiful Bali) for distribution across your social media channels to start seeing instant results from everything youve learned on days 1-3. Day #5 Editing and publishing content. Learn how to produce the highest quality finished content to increase the value, consumption and perception of your brand on social media. You'll learn valuable skills you need to produce viral videos online. HOW YOU CAN HELP US? Right now all we want to know is if an experience like this sounds appealing to you? Just comment below, Yes or send us a private message to let us know. Like I mentioned, this is just a concept we are exploring, so based on gauging interest, will determine what we do next. We appreciate your help! Jess

16.01.2022 For small businesses and entrepreneurs, there are a variety of opportunities to promote yourself and drive customers to your business. It's crucial to first understand what makes a great story and how the public relations process works. Contacting journalists is free, and with the fast pace of the media cycle, reporters across the globe are constantly looking for new content.... Public relations is not paid advertising, its unpaid editorial and thats why its so valuable. Essentially because it is written by a journalist in a way that can powerfully influence an audience. If you do it in the right way, getting published in the mainstream media lets your market know what you do and how well you do it. It is possible to ditch expensive PR firms, and generate free publicity so that you can become an expert in your field. Heres my top tips to getting published in the media: Identify a news angle Effective public relations is about writing interesting and engaging content that people want to read about. So when thinking about your business try not to write a summary or sales pitch. Instead think about how what you do could fit into any emerging trends, upcoming community events or topics the media love to cover. Good public relations is about finding the news angle, generating media interest and knowing what journalists want to write about. Start reading the newspaper yourself and start noticing what makes a story interesting. A journalists number one priority is coming up with interesting and engaging content that will sell papers, boost ratings and get attention, not promoting businesses. If you follow these tips you will be well on your way to coming up with an attention-grabbing pitch that will land you in the media!

11.01.2022 The media can be powerful, especially when you take over the headlines and find yourself all over national TV.
