25.01.2022 #OTD known as Victory in the Pacific Day in Australia, & Victory over Japan Day elsewhere, Japan signs an unconditional surrender, officially ending WWII. The surrender papers were signed aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, in the presence of 50 Allied generals and other officials. This is an image of an American air display in the sky over the USS Missouri on that day.

04.01.2022 #OTD 1181 The ice cream sundae was invented in Wisconsin, US, to satisfy a customer who is denied flavoured soda water because it is a Sunday. The story is Edward Berner owned a drug store & ice-cream parlour in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. A customer by the name of George Hallauer came in & asked for an ice-cream soda. Being a Sunday, Berner was not permitted to sell flavoured soda water, which was considered "scandalous". Berner satisfied the customer by placing ice cream in a dish and pouring over the chocolate syrup usually reserved for ice cream sodas. It was named "sundae" after the day on which it was invented. YUM!
