Suspicion a...nd insecurity clouds the culture and employees retreat into self-protection behavior patterns to protect themselves from the forces within the company. To prevent this you need to look at the leadership of the organization. Ask yourself these questions: -Has the company moved away from its purpose and vision? -Is there open and honest communication? -Does the leadership value empathy? -Am I leading by example? When your most passionate employees become quiet, it’s a signal that something is wrong. The leader must be aware and act on this immediately. When you have a passionate team inspired to help the company achieve it’s vision while fulfilling its purpose, you must do everything in your power to ensure that this team keeps this vibe. Otherwise, you run the risk of pushing away great talent while settling for mediocrity. When you’re in a leadership position, it can be diff...icult to hear others suggest that your ideas or opinions may be wrong. Weak leaders take disagreement personally. They feel threatened, offended, and attacked when their team challenges their ideas and opinions. They react by waving off disagreement as unimportant, and at worse, they remove those who disagree with them. This ultimately leads to a team of individuals who feel under-valued and uninspired. Great leaders not only welcome and tolerate disagreement; they make it a point to surround themselves with individuals who feel comfortable providing criticism and alternate perspectives. They seek individuals to be in their inner circle who will challenge and question their decisions, ideas, and initiatives. 01.01.2022 When people feel safe enough to raise their hands and say, I made a mistake or I need some help. The leader has created an environment where their people fe...el safe to be themselves. When employees are scared to make mistakes, they become preoccupied with protecting themselves from the forces within the company as opposed to helping the leadership protect the company from forces externally. If there's a lack of inherent trust and your company is more concerned about getting a doctor's note to justify your absence from work rather than asking about your health and what they can do for you, this clearly shows that you're only a commodity. Everybody matters, and as a leader, you have a reasonability to ensure that you create an environment that allows everyone on your team to love their work while becoming the very best version of themselves.
