25.01.2022 This beautiful quote ties the science of medicine to art, love and humanity. Medicine is so much more than research, experiments and data. It is an art with the sole purpose of helping humanity and making the world a better place.
24.01.2022 Case Study - Fractured neck requiring surgery. Our client contacted us for help following an injury as she needed assistance with a claim. She had been folding laundry in her home and had tripped over her son’s toy on the floor. As she fell, her head landed on her coffee table and the forced impact broke her neck and skull. She required immediate surgery and was immobile for many weeks, unable to walk or move her head. She was advised that her recovery would be slow and that ...she would not be able to return to work for at least 12 months. Our client is a self employed doctor who runs her own practice and employs staff. She had an income protection policy in place that not only covered her for loss of income but also paid out 6 months benefit upfront. She also had a business expense policy in place that assisted with the ongoing costs associated with running her business while she was unwell. Our client was extremely relieved to have her cover in place and to have us look after her claim for her. Her concerns were always for others. Despite her injury and pain, she told us - I just want to make sure my staff get paid.
23.01.2022 The Doctor will see YOU now.... We love to do things differently at Priority Life and we love to engage with doctors in new and exciting ways. In view of this we are hosting a financial wellness seminar in Wagga Wagga on Sunday the 19th May to provide education and insight into financial matters such as risk insurance, tax, estate planning and property investment. We are absolutely thrilled to announce Dr James Muecke AM as our guest speaker for the day. James is an Ophthalmo...logist from Adelaide and the founder of Sight For All, a non profit organisation that delivers support, training and educational programs in some of the poorest parts of the world to overcome preventable blindness. James is an outstanding individual and a treasured client of ours. We are thrilled to be able to collaborate with him at this event. Tickets to the event are limited. Please message us directly via our FaceBook account or call our office on 1300 122 436 to reserve your seat!
22.01.2022 My thoughts were, I can only claim on my income protection policy if I am unable to work. Adam Norich dislocated his shoulder whilst playing football with his children. Whilst the injury was extremely painful, it did not stop him from working and therefore he didn’t think there was a possibility he could claim on his income protection policy. Whilst dropping his children off at school, he bumped into one of our Partners, Aaron Zelman whose children attend the same school. A...dam had his arm in a sling and Aaron asked about his injury. He asked if he had the doctor’s report and if he could send that to us. Once Adam forwarded the report to us, it became immediately evident that Adam had suffered from a hill-sachs fracture, a fracture of the upper humerus which very commonly occurs when you dislocate your shoulder. Many income protection policies include a feature which will cover you for specified injuries (such as fractures) and these will pay a benefit to you even if you require no time off work. Adam’s policy included this feature and we were able to assist him with having two months of benefit paid to him by his insurer. Adam has now fully recovered and has very kindly allowed us to profile his claim experience. We meet with many people who like Adam believe that they can only claim on their income protection policy if they cannot work due to illness or injury. The reality is that, specified injury claims for incidents such as fractures, are one of the most commonly paid claims that insurers pay. If you have income protection cover and have previously suffered from a fracture or required hospitalisation, there is a very strong possibility that you are entitled to a claim.

21.01.2022 We love being on tour and we are loving being in Kuala Lumpur for the ANZCA ASM 2019. It’s awesome to catch up with so many of our wonderful clients and also enjoy some of the delicious food KL has to offer - XL pants will be required next week!
18.01.2022 Its QUESTION TIME again and this week we are firing our question at our much loved Marketing Manager - Mel. So Mel...which client made such an impact on you that you always remember them? This is such a great question. We have so many wonderful clients and of course they are all memorable in their own special way, however one surgeon we met had a personal story that genuinely touched my heart. He had a prior history of drug abuse and dependency which stemmed from years of un...treated depression. He had sought help and courageously fought his addictions. As such he had been drug free for many years however, he had been unable to get insurance as insurers will typically decline all covers for applicants who have a history of class A drug dependency and addiction. Doctors are pillars of society and hold tremendous positions of respect and responsibility, but they are still human beings. We can all make mistakes. Doctors can be placed under momentous stress and pressure that can often progress well beyond medical school into their working career. My father was a medic and was also the most phenomenal human being I have ever met. He was tortured with depression and addictions for years and years and years. He tried so hard to get better and he felt so much shame. When I was 19 my father took his own life and my own life was never the same again. I know that it is for this reason that I feel so much empathy for the clients we meet that have a deep rooted history of mental health issues or addictions. No one is immune from a slip up in life. Even the most capable, astute and accomplished can trip and fall under certain circumstances. I will never forget this courageous client that was so willing to share his story with us. I am overwhelmingly proud that we were able to get him cover. It was another step in the right direction and a boost of encouragement on his journey of sobriety. At Priority Life, we are held in a position of trust and integrity as our clients disclose exceptionally personal information to us. It is an honour to be in this position, an honour that every single member of our team is proud of.
18.01.2022 What rewards does your insurer offer you? Australian insurance companies are introducing innovative ways to engage and retain their clients. Some companies now offer generous rewards to their customer that can include - a profit share arrangement, loyalty discounts, movie tickets and vouchers for supermarkets, retail chains and gyms. These kind of rewards can be compelling particularly for clients who have never claimed on their policy and enjoy ‘getting something back’. We like to get additional rewards for our clients wherever possible. If you are not sure what rewards you currently get from your insurer and would like to know what reward options could be available to you, give us a call. We would love to help.

He completed his training at The University of Melbourne and specialises in many areas of anaesthesia including obstetric, trauma, plastic, orthopedic and gynaecological. He personifies the Melbourne culture as he is chilled, easygoing and effortlessly cool Jonty is a much loved client of ours and a true pleasure to work with - we love working with you Jonty!
15.01.2022 Our eyes are pretty incredible. They are said to never lie, show our true heart and be the window to our soul. In view of their importance, we are lucky to have dedicated ophthalmologists who commit their lives to looking after our sparklers. Yesterday we presented at the Australian Society of Ophthalmologists Business Skills Expo in Melbourne. This is a day of workshops filled with advice and guidance on business acumen for doctors who run their own practices. Topics covere...d ranged from investments and finance, setting up a practice, selling a practice, self care, employee issues, legal pitfalls and insurance. We received so much interest and feedback following our presentation with questions such as - I have a few income protection policies held in different super funds from different hospitals I worked at over the years. If I needed to claim would they all pay out? The doctors were surprised by the answers to many of the questions and it was evident how necessary advice in this area is. Thank you ASO for inviting us to attend and present once again at this wonderful event. We look forward to attending again next year!
14.01.2022 Every doctor should talk to Priority Life......... Dr Alan Breidahl is a melbourne based Plastic Surgeon. We met him some time ago and he gave us the opportunity to review his insurance covers. In our discussions, Alan advised us of a previous injury he had suffered. He had raised this with his original adviser at the time and was told that he was not entitled to claim on his policy for this injury. That advice was WRONG. Alan was in-fact entitled to a claim of a substantia...l amount. We are insurance experts. We know the intricacies of policy terms, definitions and benefits. We identify unpaid claims all of the time. Over the years we have helped doctors get paid millions of dollars in claims that they were previously told they were NOT entitled to. Alan is now a client of ours and is extremely happy with the outcome we have achieved for him. We are delighted to be able to provide him with advice, guidance and help and we are thrilled to welcome him onboard!
11.01.2022 Case Study - Interplast Volunteer We met a 40 year old surgeon that was planning on being involved in an overseas surgical program with Interplast. Before he left, he wanted to review his covers to make sure he was protected. He already had covers in place from when he completed his training, but he hadn’t looked at them since. Our review found that his cover did not include any ‘own occupation’ or ‘needlestick injury’ cover. Simply put, this means that if he became sick or h...ad an injury that meant that he could never perform surgery again (for example if his hand was permanently damaged), but he could do another job suited to his training or education (such as consulting), then his policy would not pay out. Similarly, as his policy didn’t include a needlestick option, if he had acquired HIV, hepatitis B or Hepatitis C through a needlestick injury at work, his policy would not pay out. We searched the market to find a quality package of relevant cover which also included a 10% saving on what he was paying with his previous insurer. This doctor was not aware of the limitations of his existing cover and was extremely relieved to know that his new cover was much more extensive and valuable than what he had previously. This provided him with reassurance and peace of mind and removed any worry about his covers, particularly while he was working overseas.
11.01.2022 Our dynamic and fun loving team are growing. This is a unique and special time for our firm and a great time for a new starter to come on board. If you or someone you know is looking for a new challenge -please get in touch! https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/cap/view/1267095186/
10.01.2022 PERSISTENCE IS THE KEY Life is going to throw you curve balls and put hurdles in your way. The very first step to overcome them is to TRY. When it comes to insurance there are endless challenges - you could be DECLINED cover, you could have a claim KNOCKED BACK, you could have premiums that become too EXPENSIVE or you could have an insurer that is IMPOSSIBLE to deal with.... Whatever your insurance hurdle, it can be overcome if you have a PERSISTENT adviser in your corner. When dealing with insurance companies, persistence can be the difference between a NO and a Yes sure absolutely. It’s actually quite astounding how often we experience this. If you have insurance hurdles or perhaps haven’t had support from a persistent insurance agent, let us know, we would love to help.
10.01.2022 It is actually possible to obtain cover from the age of 2 onwards so think again if you believe you are too young to consider taking out insurance. Younger lives will not only pay less for their premiums but are statistically less likely to have suffered a health event. They are therefore unlikely to have any loadings or exclusions on their policy. We meet with many wise registrars and new doctors who want to set up their covers while they are still young. We also have older doctors who refer their children to us. They want to make sure their children are protected and that by taking out cover early, they can spend wisely on their insurances over the duration of their cover.
10.01.2022 THIS GIRL CAN! We continue to be SO PROUD of the women in medicine who have fought so hard for their careers and in many cases had to overcome deep rooted stigma and discrimination to achieve the positions that they have. Today is International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate what women have achieved and an important reminder of the gender bias that still exists in the workplace. It is a day with a message that encourages equality and wisdom. It speaks confidently into the ears of little girls all over the world and says You can achieve anything you want. You are enough. You are worthy. You can be whatever you want to be.
08.01.2022 International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world on Friday the 8th of March. It is a day to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness against gender bias and take action for equality. At Priority Life we are deeply passionate about supporting women in medicine. Our support is evidenced through our work and events. We ran a fantastic event in Melbourne for Women in Medicine that was attended by over 100 female doctors. We were fortunate to have Rosie Batty as a g...uest speaker who was incredible. This Friday we will be attending a female networking workshop with our clients. This workshop is organised and hosted by @doctodoc a networking group for women in medicine. We simply love what this group do and what they are trying to achieve. We have previously sponsored their event and are thrilled to see the success they are having and the positive impact their contribution is creating. We have one spare ticket to the Doc to Doc event on Friday. If you are a female doctor and would like to attend this event with us this Friday, please reach out and let us know, we would love to have you join us!
07.01.2022 Does anyone else love this show as much as we do?! It’s a musical that wows audiences across the globe with the phenomenal story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and songs such as ‘Sherry’, ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’ and ‘My Eyes Adored You’. We are huge fans of the musical and are looking forward to enjoying the show again this year with our clients.
04.01.2022 Being part of a successful team that continues to grow is exciting! We have a new ROCKSTAR adviser joining our team (full announcement will be made shortly!) and we are recruiting for TWO superstar Paraplanners. If you know anyone who would be interested in joining our band and working for the No.1 risk advisory firm in the country, please ask them to give us a call
03.01.2022 If you simply listen to what clients want, it’s much easier to find a solution to help them. We recently met with a client who wanted to review his insurance covers. He was the Executive Director of a company based in the city and he was a passionate cyclist. In our discussions, he told us that he cycled to work every day and showered at work as his office had shower facilities. He mentioned that his office was being refurbished and he would not have access to the showers for... some time. This was a big concern for him as it was going to make his day to day life difficult. We discovered that his office was right next door to one of the most prestigious gyms in the country. This gym not only had phenomenal gym equipment but also had extensive facilities including showers. One of the insurers that we have a great relationship with offer a membership scheme that allows 50% discounts on gym memberships. As luck would have it, this gym was included in the scheme. We were able to obtain competitive cover for our client but also assist him with getting 50% off his gym membership so that he could shower after his cycle and be refreshed and ready for the day ahead. Our client was absolutely thrilled with the result our advice not only saved him money on his covers but made his day to day life easier, and that is what he really wanted
03.01.2022 We don’t always have our next steps figured out but guess what? That is OK. The plans you have for your future may change. One of the best things about the future is that it is unknow yet this makes it both an opportunity and a risk. When it comes to reviewing insurances, doctors will sometimes tell us now is not really a good time, maybe we can review things in 6 months when my practice is up and running, I’m not sure what the next 12 months look like, I will reassess... things after that, Maybe I will just leave things for now until I know what the future looks like. The irony of these statements is that insurance provides insight into the future. It presents a promise that will be kept. It adds certainty to the uncertain and secures a safety net beneath a tightrope of all that is unknown. We may not be able to predict the future, but we can take steps to protect it.
