11.01.2022 FACE MASKS - SHOULD YOU BE WEARING THEM OR NOT? CORONA VIRUS FACTS Current advice from the Australian Federal Government Department of Health (DoH) as at todays date, regarding face masks is that:... face masks are not currently recommended for use by healthy members of the public for the prevention of infections like coronavirus persons with a suspected or confirmed case of coronavirus should wear a surgical face mask when in contact with others or when in public areas GPs and practice staff should wear a surgical face mask when providing routine care to potential coronavirus cases with mild or no respiratory symptoms a P2/N95 mask must be worn for aerosol generating procedures in patients with severe symptoms. 10.01.2022 WHAT YOU SHOULD DO WHEN YOU ARE SELF ISOLATING - AND WHAT THE PEOPLE LIVING WITH YOU SHOULD DO STAY AT HOME During the 14 days of isolation, you must stay at home or in your hotel and dont go to public places including work, school, childcare, university or public gatherings, the Australian Department of Health recommends.... Only people who usually live with you should be in the home. Do not see visitors and if you are in a hotel, avoid contact with other guests or staff. The UK government recommends that you stay in a well-ventilated room with a window that can be opened as this will help to keep clean air moving through the room. LIVING WITH OTHERS If you live with other people, they are not required to self-isolate unless they have been in close contact with a proven case of coronavirus. However, if you develop symptoms and are suspected to have coronavirus, they will be classified as close contacts and they will need to self-isolate as well. The UK government recommends that you try to separate yourself from the other people in your home and keep the door closed. If you cant stay in a separate room, aim to keep two metres away from them at all times. Use a separate bathroom to those who arent in self-isolation. But if thats not a possibility, clean the bathroom as much as you can every time you use it. Its also recommended that you use your own toothbrushes, eating and drinking utensils, dishes, towels, washcloths and bed linen.

The consequences of a single infectious patient or healthcare worker in a health care facility are potentially devastating, with severe disruption of services likely. In the national guidelines, the recommended steps in health services include screening questions and restriction of entry, rigorous hand hygiene using the correct technique, interpersonal distancing wherever possible and environmental cleaning. As services begin to open up, the healthcare workforce has to remain vigilant to protect the community, and we thank you for your continued cooperation in this endeavour.
