25.01.2022 So you've decided that Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is for you. With many good artists in Australia how do you decide which is the right one for you? Here's some information that may help you with that decision. Location - as SMP is often delivered over 3 sessions, you will want an artist at a reachable location. For some clients, their focus is on the artist and they are happy to travel for the right one. Remember you may also require touch ups in the future. Cost - as th...e saying goes, "Cheap work isn't good and good work isn't cheap". This doesn't mean you have to pay a premium price but be aware of cheap prices. The artist - always ask to see pictures of the artists work. Each artist has a different approach to SMP. Seek out the ones whose work you like and arrange to have a consultation with them to see who you feel more comfortable with. Experience - SMP is a skill that takes time and practice to develop. This doesn't mean new artists will deliver a bad job. There are new and upcoming artists who are excellent. Ask questions - don't be afraid to ask the artist about their experience and qualifications. This industry is constantly evolving and all artists should be attending regular training as well as conferences to improve and upgrade their skills. Transparency - professional artists and studios will be transparent about the pigment and equipment they use. They should be able to provide you with a MSDS (Material Safety Date Sheet) of the pigment they use on request. Infection control - a professional artist will have completed an Infection prevention and control for skin penetration course. The studio should also have state Health Department certification and be clean. Appropriate PPE should be worn, including face masks, goggles, gloves and disposable aprons. 14.12.2021 The Hair Growth Cycles There are three stages in the hair growth cycle. The entire cycle can be as short as one year or as long as seven years with the average growth cycle being four years. As we are all different our growth cycles will also differ. Many factors can interrupt the cycle and force the hair into the 'Telogen stage' (hair shedding). It is understood that the protein fgf-5 triggers the hair to change from Anagen to Catagen and then to Telogen The Anagen Phase:... Lasts 1-7 years 'Growing phase' 80-90% of hair is in the Anagen phase. Hair growth is approximately 1.25 cm a month however can vary from person to person. The hair bulb produces the hair colour pigment, melanin in the growth cycle. The blood supply provides nutrients and minerals to the hair. The Catagen Phase: Lasts 1-3 weeks 'Transition phase' The hair detaches from the blood supply. The detached follicle will slowly shrink to about 1/6 of its size. The hair bulb stops producing the colour pigment. The bulb will be pushed upwards towards the surface when the new hair is formed. Approximately 2-3 % of the hair is in this phase The Telogen Phase: Lasts up to 3 months 'Resting phase' 10-15 % of hair is in Telogen phase.
