24.01.2022 Data concerning the number of people diagnosed with diabetes and who are registered on the National Diabetes Service Scheme is displayed on an interactive map available at https://map.ndss.com.au/#!/. This map tells us that the prevalence of diabetes in the 2530 post code is higher than the national average, and is the reason why Medical Professionals Dapto have supported National Diabetes week throughout the month of July with information about diabetes management through mechanisms such as diet and exercise, as well as the importance of foot care. We will round off our diabetes awareness month with some sage advice from Dr Laura Harnish who says "Remember: pre-diabetes is reversible! Moderate weight loss (5-7%) and exercise (150 mins per week of brisk walking) can return blood sugars to their normal range." Thank-you Dr Laura!

22.01.2022 ***WE NEED YOUR HELP*** Dr Mumford received a very special delivery for Anzac Day this year on behalf of a local boy called Taj. The delivery was made by charity, Digger Drop-Off, who organise boxes to be delivered to Defence veterans throughout the Illawarra and beyond as a show of respect around Anzac Day each year. Dr Mumford was so thrilled with his delivery, that he has a return gift for Taj, but the catch is, we need some help finding him! If you know a primary aged student called Taj who participated in the Digger Drop-Off please let us know so we can make contact. Taj’s letter to Dr Mumford left a few clues, so we are certain with your help we will find the right one!

21.01.2022 In line with the easing of COVID-19 restrictions across NSW from midnight tonight, from Friday 29 January 2021, it will no longer be mandatory for patients visiting Medical Professionals Dapto to wear a face mask. However, we still encourage patients to wear a mask for the ongoing protection of themselves and others.

20.01.2022 Our staff dressed down in denim today to support Jeans for Genes day. The practice has also made a donation to this very worthy cause which fundraises to find cures for children’s genetic diseases. We would also like to warmly welcome Meredith to the practice! Meredith is a stage 3 medical student at University of Wollongong. She will be undertaking training with us for the next 12 months under the guidance of our GP’s.

19.01.2022 ***APPOINTMENT MANAGEMENT*** Good Afternoon, We strive to ensure patients have access to our doctors and nurses, and that lead times to see our clinicians are kept in check. To ensure ongoing, equitable access to our services for all, we would like to advise the following:... 1. We request patients provide us as much notice as possible if they are unable to attend their appointments. Patients who fail to attend their appointment without contacting the practice in advance will now be charged a $35 fee. 2. There is no need for patients to "place-hold" appointments. If our doctors would like to see you again after your consultation, they will ask you to see the front desk on your way out to re-book. If a patient suddenly becomes unwell, please contact the practice and we will do our best to fit you in on the day. 3. If you are a patient awaiting a test result, the practice will only contact you if the doctor has reviewed your report and would like to see you again. 17.01.2022 As per current NSW Government advice, anyone with flu-like symptoms should visit a COVID-19 facility and be tested. Once you undergo this test you MUST isolate yourself until you receive your results. This means that after your test, you need to go straight home without detouring. Please read any instructions provided to you by the health official at the point of COVID-19 testing. These instructions are designed to keep you and the community safe. If you live with someone ...who has undergone a COVID-19 test and is awaiting results, the sensible thing to do is self-isolate until that person receives their results. As a result of these restrictions, there will be a requirement for all patients and visitors to the practice to wear a face mask. 08.01.2022 Good Morning! We hope you all had a wonderful mothers day yesterday. We have a few practice updates to share... 1. COVID-29 VACCINATIONS- The government has brought forward the next phase of it's COVID-19 vaccination roll out plan, which means that from last Friday (7 May 2021) anyone aged 50 years or older is now eligible to be vaccinated. Our clinic runs every Friday. If you are 50 years or older and would like to be vaccinated, please contact our reception desk on (02) 428...8 0511 to make an appointment 2. FACEMASKS - You may be aware that the NSW Government extended its recent COVID-19 restrictions until 17 May 2021, however in doing so also made some modifications to these restrictions. In line with these changes, we encourage patients to wear a facemask when they visit the practice, however face masks are not mandatory except in circumstances where patients present with flu-like symptoms or at the discretion of the practice 3. PATIENTS WITH FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS - Government advice regarding patients who develop flu-like symptoms has not changed. The first course of action in these circumstances is for the patient to attend a COVID-19 testing clinic. If a patient attends a COVID-19 testing clinic, they are not permitted to attend the practice until they have received a negative test result. We ask that any patient with flu-like symptoms does not attend the practice. In such circumstances, we have telehealth appointments available 4. 04.01.2022 Our ability to deliver a high quality medical service relies on good communication between our patients and the practice. We would like to remind our patients of the following: 1. Our reception staff will confirm appointments with patients. Patients can assist this process by acknowledging their appointment via the HotDoc SMS reminder that is sent to their phone when they book online. 2. We have a 24 hour cancellation policy (or as much notice as possible in the case of unf...oreseen circumstances). Patients are required to call the practice as soon as possible if they are unable to attend an appointment so they can be rebooked and their appointment can be allocated to another patient if required. 3. Failure to attend 3 appointments without notice can trigger a review of a person's status as a patient at Medical Professionals Dapto. 4. When an appointment is booked, patients are requested to be specific about who the appointment is for. It is not possible for our clinicians to see multiple people such as partners, relatives, etc within one appointment unless prior notification is provided and adequate time is allowed. This places unnecessary pressure on our doctors and affects our service delivery for other patients. 5. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, only necessary next of kin or carers will be permitted to enter a consultation room with a patient who has booked an appointment. Your cooperation and understanding is appreciated!

03.01.2022 Yesterday the Clinical Excellence Commission in NSW Health shifted its COVID-19 Protection and Control status to Amber Alert. This means that any NSW Health worker, patient or visitor to a NSW Health facility (e.g. hospital) will now be required to wear a face mask when they enter that facility. While this does not currently apply to private GP clinics, we encourage all patients and visitors at Medical Professionals Dapto to wear a face mask when visiting our practice to inc...rease protection for themselves and others. The wearing of a face mask does not replace other hygiene and safety measure that we have in place (e.g. hand sanitising and social distancing). Our face masks are in very limited supply, so we encourage patients to source their own mask. Remember that if you have any flu like symptoms, please phone ahead prior to visiting the practice.
