03.01.2022 Every patient leaves a mark on our surgical team but when we recall the 2014 surgical camp, 40 year old Lucia's story stands out in our memories. Lucia was brought to St Paul's from a government hospital 4 hours away and was in severe cardiac failure. She had a very large uterine prolapse which made it impossible for her to pass urine. Upon arrival she was near death, however after receiving treatment she regained strength and was improving by the time we left. We present all patients with a gift of soap and Lucia was in disbelief - she could not believe it was all for her! Small acts of kindness make a big difference.
