23.01.2022 Introducing Dr David Dunbabin [MBBS(hons), B Med Sci, FRACP, FFARM], specialist in Health of the Elderly, Director of Rehabilitation Calvary Healthcare, and Clinical Senior Lecturer University of Tasmania! Dr Dunbabin was born and educated in Tasmania, graduating in 1982 from University of Tasmania. He received Physician Training at the RHH with advanced training in Geriatric Medicine in Leicester (UK) and Adelaide (SA). He is currently working in a private practice in Geriat...ric Medicine and Rehabilitation. Being a MRC Research fellow, he has extensive clinical research experience in the management and prevention of stroke and dementia. He has investigated the effectiveness of antiplatelet therapy in the prevention of vascular events and has over 20 publications relating to the epidemiology and management of stroke. 21.01.2022 Professor Francis Bowling [PhD, MBBS, FRCPA, FFSc, FHGSA, MBA] will be coming all the way from Melbourne to talk about the use of AI in the field of molecular genetics! Professor Bowling is a highly respected pathologist, he is currently the: - Director of Pathology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital - Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne... - Member of the Board of Professional Practice and Quality of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia - Member of the National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council. His professional scope of practice includes both Genetics and Chemical Pathology. This lead to his strong interest in the molecular basis of disease. He believe the four omes is going to change the practise of future medicine, the four Omes being th-e Genome, Proteome, Metabolome, and Microbiome His current research include: - Validating big data analytical tools for diagnosis and monitoring of disease - Developing the concept of a disease trajectome in collaboration with the Proteomics and Metabolomics mass spectrometry facility at the Walter and Eliza Hall Research Institute. - ProCan study at the Childrens Medical Research Institute, Westmead, which is constructing a proteomic profile of the over 5000 tumour samples. 15.01.2022 A BIG welcome to Dr Balaji Bikshandi who will be speaking at Medivision 2018! Dr Bikshandi is an Intensive Care Specialist at the North West Regional Hospital in Burnie with a strong interest in researching and developing humanoid robotic solutions to address niche healthcare system challenges. Dr Bikshandi was the principal researcher in a world first Dr NAO project, pioneering the use of humanoid robots in the acute care setting. He is actively involved in interdisciplinar...y healthcare research integrating design and technology at the University of Canberra. His futuristic Intensive Care Unit design project had won the US Core77 design award (2013) and his 'Fluid Telemetry' invention had won the Discovery Translation Fund (ANU). In the age of exponentially developing technological advancements, Dr Bikshandi is leading the way forward to harness the strengths AI today into becoming the healthcare solutions of tomorrow! 07.01.2022 Welcoming Professor Christine Jorm all the way from Sydney! Professor Christine Jorm is the Director of NSW Regional Health Partners, an NHMRC accredited Centre for Innovation in Regional Health. The Centre is tasked with accelerating the translation of research in order to improve rural health. She is also a safety and quality expert, with experience as a clinician (working as an anaesthetist for more than 15 years) policy maker, researcher, and teacher. Furthermore, Christi...ne is a graduate of the Institute of Company Directors and has been a long-term member of the Grattan health program advisory group, also working as a Visiting Fellow on the three recent safety and quality reports. In addition to her speciality medical qualifications, Christine has doctorates in neuropharmacology and sociology. Her PhD thesis explored aspects of medical culture. She has published more than 80 opinion pieces, peer reviewed articles, books, and book chapters. Interested in hearing Christine's take on medical culture?
