24.01.2022 Our amazing Team Kinder m8 has launched an online platform for Early Childhood Professionals and families to be able to connect and communicate but to also access information about the current COVID-19 pandemic and industry news and resources. Meet 'Early Childhood Central' supporting the Early Childhood Industry by sharing knowledge in one easy to access space. The articles are shared from external sources within the Education and Health industry. There will continual upd...ates about all things Early Childhood but we also welcome you share any ideas or articles which you think your fellow educators or families would find useful. We have both a Share your ideas page but also 'Community Lounge' which is an online forum for both educators and families to engage together and discuss helpful tips and information within the industry. Parents have a link directly to 'Early Childhood Centra'l via their Kinder m8 Family Lounge app within the Family Essentials section. Our goal is to provide continuous support for the Early Childhood community and provide them with a safe space to read, communicate and discuss openly. We encourage you to share Early Childhood Central and the articles within it on your social pages and to use the hashtag #weareinthistogether

24.01.2022 If your little one gets "the worries" or a "bubbly tummy" - also known as anxiety - try this simple trick to focus their attention, their hands and their breathing, and bring back some calm.

22.01.2022 Who is as excited as our Mr Potato Heads for preschool to start on Monday! Heres a little sneak peak as to what we have in store for our Monday friends.... Monday is going to be jam packed full of so much learning through play such as developing our pencil grip, gross motor moving, exploring textures, exploring the first letters of our names, beautiful first day photos, numeracy, developing new friendships, exploring our outdoor environment, developing bonds with our 3 preschool puppies, developing bonds with our educators using our creative side to paint stories, block building, dinosaurs, caring for our babies, gardening, tasting our fresh and ripe tomatoes and passion fruit, helping to feed our pet turtle and so much more!!!

22.01.2022 Please find attached some ideas for home learning. These suggestions are relegated to the Early Years Learning Framework that we base our preschool program around.

21.01.2022 Children with poor crossing the midline skills, often have trouble: * Putting their own shoes and socks on * Tracking words across the page during reading time ...without fidgeting or getting distracted * Completing jigsaw puzzles with their dominant hand, if the puzzle is positioned on the opposite side of their body * Climbing a-frames safely (climbing up forwards, and climbing down backwards) * Sitting cross-legged during circle time To be able to understand the position and movement of our own body; be able to move and turn quickly while playing; or master complex fine motor skills, we need to firstly master crossing the midline, and bilateral coordination skills.

18.01.2022 Why is play so important in the development of children? To read more on this, checkout Miss Sharons BLOG on our preschool web page at http://www.medowiegumnuts.com.au/the-importance-of-play-in/

17.01.2022 The Floorbook Approach is an innovative child-led approach to observation, documentation and planning which is now implemented in settings around the world. By listening to children and identifying their interests we can create a unique learning opportunity which excites and interests children. Floorbooks are blank books where we can record children's voices and their ideas to use in our planning. Group writing in a Floorbook allows shared thinking as children recall each others ideas and record them through writing, diagrams and photographs. This child centred approach records the evidence of the process of play and the learning that comes from it.

Its been so amazing meeting our new friends and watching little friendships develop between all children and educators! Gumnut educators want to thank their amazing families for trusting us to nurture and care for your little people! But who is as tired as our preschool puppies from 5 big days of playing!

09.01.2022 We would like to say a heartfelt 'THANK YOU' to all families for providing some great, healthy, nutritious food in their child's preschool lunchbox. Also, thank you so much to everyone for being on board with our requirements re allergens, salt, sugar and fat content of food when packing preschool lunch boxes. Now that we have settled into our year we are getting a good idea of the food intake requirements of all the children across the week. We are finding that some of our ...little people feel that they 'have to' eat everything that is in their lunch box.,n and feeling a bit overwhelmed by the large amount of food in their lunch box. Instead of following this 'have to eat' concept, we are encouraging the children to identify when their body/stomach is 'feeling full'. If a child indicates that their body is feeling full, we will encourage them to pack their food away and come back to it later on when they feel the need to eat/drink again. By doing this, it teaches the children to identify when their body needs food and drink and then identifying when their body has had enough. This is an important skill for children to learn, to verbalise and to put into practice. Below, I have attached an extract that provides a recommended dietary guideline for children in care for a period of 8 hours (we operate for 8 hours per day). Please remember when researching recommended guidelines for children of preschool age, most quantities will be for a child's full day; from the time they wake up to the time they go to sleep. 08.01.2022 I have a huge appreciation for these ladies; our team of amazing Educators at Medowie Gumnut Preschool. Across this period of the Covid pandemic they have supported me, each other, our preschool children and their families; while also taking on the effects, and challenges, of this time on their own personal lives. They have done what I thought was impossible, and worked together to get us through this tough and crazy time , and we are almost ready to take on the challenges of the new 'normal' as more of our preschool friends return to us over the next weeks. Thank you so much Mikaylah, Kirstin, Kylie, Kiara and Mallory!! You are all amazing, caring, strong and talented educators xxx

07.01.2022 This is Cooper one of our Preschool therapy Pups! Our preschool friends have learnt that Cooper enjoys ear scratches and belly rubs, after they approach Cooper safely and ask him if he wants a pat by placing the back of their hands towards his nose for a sniff or a kiss to say yes please! Children raised with pets show many benefits. Developing positive feelings about pets can contribute to a child's self-esteem and self-confidence. Positive relationships with pets can aid... in the development of trusting relationships with others. A good relationship with a pet can also help in developing non-verbal communication, compassion, and empathy. Pets can serve different purposes for children: They can be safe recipients of secrets and private thoughts--children often talk to their pets, like they do to their stuffed animals. They provide lessons about life. They can help develop responsible behavior in the children who care for them. They provide a connection to nature. They can teach respect for other living things. Other physical and emotional needs fulfilled by pet ownership include: Physical activity Comfort contact Love, loyalty, and affection.

COVID-19 symptoms and get tested should any respiratory symptoms or fever occur. The warning follows confirmation of a COVID-19 case in Port Stephens area. Even those with mild symptoms such as fatigue, new muscle aches or pains, a change in taste or smell or a new runny nose are encouraged to arrange testing, he said.
