25.01.2022 Today is Vietnam Veterans Day, a day we honour Vietnam Veterans and remember their sacrifices in what was Australias longest military involvement in a war. T...he Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS) is the legacy of Australias Vietnam veterans, and on this day of commemoration, we reflect on the strong bonds forged by those who served, and their ongoing commitment to look out for each other. We also recognise and thank the families and friends of all Vietnam veterans. We acknowledge that it was this commitment that brought this valuable service to life, which is now available to all current and former serving ADF personnel and their families. Through VVCS, Australias Vietnam veterans have ensured that future generations of serving men and women will have access to specialised mental health and wellbeing support. VVCS is here to listen and help. Call 1800 011 046, 24/7 or visit www.vvcs.gov.au

To all current and former Australian peacekeepers and peacemakers, thank you for your service. #TYFYS

23.01.2022 Prolonged exposure (PE) therapy is a gold standard treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In its current form, this therapy can be difficult for cu...rrent and ex-serving ADF personnel to commit to, as treatment usually takes 10 weeks to undertake. In partnership with Phoenix Australia and the Department of Defence, the Rapid Exposure Supporting Trauma Recovery (RESTORE) Trial is investigating whether the outcomes of an intensive delivery of prolonged exposure therapy (10 sessions over a two-week period) is as effective as the current 10 week format. Trials will run nationally; ACT, North QLD, NT, SA, VIC and WA Please contact [email protected] or call 1800 856 824 to register your interest. For further information visit the VVCS website.

13.01.2022 Lance Corporal William Henry Camroux was commemorated at the 2019 Anzac Day service at Villers-Bretonneux, where Vice Admiral Noonan read an excerpt from one of... his letters. William Camroux was born in Sydney on 27 June 1893. Nicknamed Blue for his red hair, he worked as a labourer before enlisting in the AIF in 1915. He was posted to 17th Battalion. He left Australia on Euripides and spent time in Egypt before sailing for France in August 1916. William saw action on the Somme (sometimes marching 20 miles a day) and at Ypres which he described as one mass of ruins. William was wounded twice but remained in the field, and was gassed two days before the last Australian infantry action of the war at Montbrehain. However, he survived and in December 1918, after the war had ended, he sailed for home. William eventually settled in Penrith, married Pearl Honeman in 1924, and later had two children, Keith and Betty. After returning home, he struggled with ill-health and what was dubbed war demons. Sadly, William died of a heart attack in 1935 at the age of just 42. #TYFYS

10.01.2022 On August 5 in Goodooga, NSW, a plaque was unveiled commemorating two Indigenous servicemen from the area: Privates Harold West and George Leonard. In August 19...41 childhood friends Harold and George enlisted together for the Second World War. Both Indigenous Australians, they were taught from a young age to live off the land and how to track, skills which came in handy when they fought on the Kokoda Track. Private Leonard was killed in action in October 1942. Grief-stricken, Private West commenced a one-man campaign of revenge against the Japanese forces, but eventually died of scrub typhus in Port Moresby in November. Private Wests distinguishing actions inspired the poem The Coloured Digger by Bert Beros, with a musical performance of it being performed at the event by John Paul Young and Warren Morgan. On Anzac Day in 2007 Private Wests legacy and that of all Aboriginal servicemen and women was honoured with the inaugural Coloured Diggers March in Redfern, a community event held every year since. 05.01.2022 #2 - 10 Things your clinician wants you to know Anyone can go to counselling: You dont have to be diagnosed with a mental illness to go to counselling. In fact..., the best time to seek support from a clinician is when you start to feel that you are not coping. There are a lot of reasons why people go to counselling, mental illness is just one of them. People often hesitate because they feel things will be better tomorrow or its not that bad. If youre feeling stuck, or overwhelmed, or not able to function as youd like to, think about talking to a clinician. See more

02.01.2022 Meet Iris Terry (nee Pfitzner) who turns 102 today! During the Second World War, on 13 April 1944, Iris enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force. Her twin sis...ter and four brothers joined the Army. Iriss job was to supply the troops with all the equipment and clothing they needed before they boarded ships to leave Australia. Her rank was Aircraftwoman. Iris remembers the closeness between the women she worked with. The job was very busy with as little notice as 24 hours to fit-out an entire battalion. After being discharged from the RAAF on 18 December 1945, she worked as a tailor and married Emerson Terry, who had served in the Army. Iris was very good at her work. She made silk robes for judges and barristers and even suits for Prime Ministers. She retired at the age of 83. Iris is a member of Fairfield and Liverpool Legacy, Ladies Auxiliary and war widows groups and she still participates in their meetings and outings. Happy birthday Iris. We hope you have a wonderful day! Thank you for your service. #TYFYS

01.01.2022 To the people of Medowie and surrounding districts: Thank you for your support at the ANZAC Day march and Dawn Service this morning. Estimates of attendance ranged between 1500 and 2000 people. For a small town like Medowie that is an excellent attendance. We are humbled by such support. It shows that community support is very strong for those who serve, those who have served, and those who gave their lives in service.... We look forward to your continued support. Thank you once again.
