25.01.2022 Who says muzzles can't make fantastic hats! Having fun at our Recycling Centre sitting on our DIY stool (thanks Dave Hodder for your windscreen boxes that supply us with stool material ;))
25.01.2022 Some upcycled goodies at the markets this morning

22.01.2022 This coming Saturday (1 August) were doing chalk painting - taught by the very handy Margie. No need to bring any materials, just rock up.
22.01.2022 We just had a stack of these boxes dropped off. Theyre too good to be crushed. Free to a good home! Are you moving? Have your own shopping basket? Reorganising your storage? Want to give away trays of seedlings or cakes or other things to friends? These would be perfect for that. Even come with a lid.
22.01.2022 The Container Deposit Scheme is starting in a week and the organisers are banging the drum and giving away cash! :) So exciting!
21.01.2022 Today! Bring your soft plastics
21.01.2022 Yay the Container Deposit Scheme is going ahead this year still! It was meant to launch 1st June but the Rona delayed everything a bit. Whos going to be the Meeka drop off point - anyone know? https://www.mediastatements.wa.gov.au//October-launch-date
20.01.2022 Looks like we were learning a life saving skill at our soap making workshop in January! Who would have thought! Its a pleasure to use and smells lovely - an incentive to wash hands often and thoroughly <3
20.01.2022 Please note the Recycling Centre is closed until further notice in line with social distancing measures and restrictions.
20.01.2022 Yay we will open again as usual from this Saturday onwards!
19.01.2022 Our Upcycling Workshops can start back up! Were running a survey to see which date & time works for the most people - please give us your feedback :)
19.01.2022 Who wants to come along and play with paper today? Here are some inspirations from the internet about rolled paper + we can make envelopes and weaved baskets. Cant wait! See you at 11am at the recycling centre!
18.01.2022 Next one on 4th July will be macram, taught by our very talented Elaine King! If you have thick string or small rope bring it along.
18.01.2022 Due to vollies being out of town this weekend the recycling centre won't be open and the workshop won't be on, but you'll be able to drop off your recycling through the new 24/7 drop off shute!
17.01.2022 Heaps of shredded paper at the shire! If you want some for your garden, compost or ducks or chooks - swing past the shire office!
17.01.2022 Sounds like Saturday 11am is the most popular time which is nice during this time of the year. Maybe when it gets hotter again we can then switch to the second most popular time, being Sunday mornings.
17.01.2022 Our Upcycling Workshop is coming up this Saturday. This time well be upcycling paper. Turning old magazines, newspaper or calendars into homemade envelopes, weaved baskets or seedling raising pots. Magazine pages apparently can also be rolled up and then form a bowl or waste basket, but not exactly sure how to do that yet. Only one way to find out! ... See you Saturday 11am! If you have old paper/magazines/newspaper/calendars bring them along.
16.01.2022 If youre leaving town and need some packing boxes, we have heaps!
16.01.2022 We saved a fair few magazines and bits of paper from landfill today and instead made useful and pretty things with them - all the while whilst having a good old chinwag. Win win win!
16.01.2022 As a lot of our vollies will be either out of town or working tomorrow, the Recycling Centre will only be half open: youll be able to get into the yard to drop off your recycling, but the shed and secondhand shop wont be open.
15.01.2022 Our chalk painting workshop yesterday was great! As chalk paint can go on pretty much any surface without any prep work its perfect for upcycling things that would otherwise be deemed rubbish, such a these food tins and jars. Margie also gave a candle holder a new look. So good! And because its got that distressed scratched kinda look it doesnt matter if it gets banged around and obtains a few more scratches
13.01.2022 Todays workshop was great! Thank you Elaine for patiently putting up with us "how many strings again? 4? 8. How long? Where do I put this knot? What kind of knot? What are we connecting?" - we got there in the end and were mighty proud of our creations. And what a glorious day to do this on. Next month will be Chalk Painting. Stay tuned.
12.01.2022 Did you know that Terracycle offers recycling programs for all these kind of products? Tooth brushes, tooth paste, pens, coffee capsules and and and...! https://www.terracycle.com/en-AU/brigades Should we implement a collection point for any of these here in Meeka?
12.01.2022 https://biocache.ala.org.au/explore/your-area#-26.5952|118.4975|11|ALL_SPECIES How amazing is this atlas of living things! Plonk in your location (here showing Meekatharra) and it shows you a long list of recorded species (flora & fauna as well as fungi, bacteria etc - if recorded). It also has great information and photos about those species.
12.01.2022 Slight change of plan - a few of our committee members are out of town today so were delaying our AGM until next Saturday 19th September. All welcome! Bonus: we wont be clashing with the markets then. Have you been down to the markets yet?
12.01.2022 We are SUCH rebels at the recycling centre!
12.01.2022 https://www.abc.net.au//nescafe-comes-calling-bra/12380828 Would this be cool to have in Meeka?
11.01.2022 How good is this idea! New local artist Eva was selling her art at the markets. "I couldnt get any canvas so I just painted on what I could find." - upcycling and repurposing well done.
11.01.2022 We'll be at the markets this morning with upcycled goodies, seeds and secondhand things. See you there!
11.01.2022 Please note our Upcycling Workshops are cancelled until further notice. As lovely as our crafty get-togethers are, theyre not really that essential and its mo...re important we stay apart. But why dont you practice what youve learnt already and use your home isolation time to knock up some plarn baskets or eco bricks? See more
10.01.2022 After our little social distancing break we are OPEN again! Open as usual on Saturdays from 9-11am. See you there! (From 2 metres apart of course. No hugs.)
10.01.2022 We made soap! With lots of lovely different scents and with oats for some gentle exfoliation Catherine had the great idea to reuse plastic water bottles as moulds which gives them their beautiful shape. Yay!
10.01.2022 Whoop whoop! Markets are back on! Well be down there with some fresh second hand goodies that were dropped off recently
07.01.2022 This Saturday we'll be doing tetrapaks (those containers that soy milk or veggie stocks comes in). If you have any you're welcome to give them a rinse and bring them along but we also have heaps saved up.
06.01.2022 Tomorrow! If you have old magazines or newspaper bring them along :)
05.01.2022 Our Workshops are back! Yay! Now on the first Saturday of the month at 11am (so straight after recycling). If youre keen to learn some handy skills, come along. If you have handy skills and are willing to teach - were also all ears!
05.01.2022 Woohoo we now have a scheme ID and are listed as a worthy cause to support on the Containers for Change website. When you return your containers at a refund point simply give them our scheme ID C10286593 and thereby donate the value of your containers straight into our bank account. Saving the planet AND supporting your favourite little recycling centre? Win win win! :) <3 If you're not sure where to return your containers you can easily look it up here: https://www.containersforchange.com.au/wa/where-to-return
05.01.2022 Starting in town 1st October!
05.01.2022 Slight change of plan - a few of our committee members are out of town today so we're delaying our AGM until next Saturday 19th September. All welcome! Bonus: we won't be clashing with the markets then. Have you been down to the markets yet?
05.01.2022 Next Sunday (1st March) well be making Eco Bricks! Ever heard of them? Theyre plastic bottles shoved full with soft plastics which makes them as hard as a brick; they can then be used to make walls or stools or planter beds. Check out https://www.ecobricks.org/how/ for more info. The workshop starts at 9am. Over the next few days make sure you save up your soft plastics (clean & dry) and your plastic bottles and bring it along :) See you there!
05.01.2022 Podcasts are such a great way to hear about the world and whats out there! So many good ideas.
04.01.2022 Great way to upcycle egg cartons! Good job youth team :)
03.01.2022 Our next workshop is only a couple of days away, yay! This time well be making soap.
02.01.2022 Remember the two architects who came through Meeka on their bicycles a couple of years ago on a journey from the east to the west coast? They had designed some postcards which are sold at Made in Meeka - they had stipulated that all profits go to Meeka Goes Green! Heres the first lot of $15 Thank you TheGrandSection! Love your community spirit.
02.01.2022 Vollies wanted! :) no matter how much or little you have to give, we appreciate it. Its always good fun at the Recycling Centre.
