25.01.2022 We urge everyone in the Meerlieu and district to start preparing your properties for the very real chance of being impacted by fire in our area. It most likely won’t be this Saturday, however as the fire grows more west the next hot northerly day will be challenging. Also the chance of lighting strikes is very likely starting new fires which could cause a new fire front a lot closer to home. Remember our area only has 3 trucks Perry Bridge, Meerlieu and Bengworden so please don’t guarantee an appliance will be always able to help out. Make sure your house is best prepared. We will communicate more when we know more.

20.01.2022 The fires in our area haven’t only affected people directly impacted. Here’s one way to help our region!

19.01.2022 Bushfires can create their own weather, generating ‘pyrocumulonimbus’ clouds and storms These clouds can cause dangerous and unpredictable changes in fire b...ehaviour, making the fire more difficult and hazardous to fight. So, how do they form? 1. A plume of hot, turbulent air and smoke rises. 2. Turbulence mixes cooler air into the plume, causing it to broaden and cool as it rises. 3. When the plume rises high enough, low atmospheric pressure causes its air to cool and cloud to form. 4. In an unstable atmosphere a thunderstorm can develop: pyrocumulonimbus cloud. 5. Rain in the cloud evaporates and cools when it comes into contact with dry air, producing a downburst. 6. Lightning may be produced and can ignite new fires. Find out more, including how our scientists are working to be able to predict them, in our blog: http://ow.ly/3t1i50x8nM6 For the latest fire weather warnings see http://ow.ly/tbTN50x8nz8, and follow advice from emergency services NSW Rural Fire Service Queensland Fire and Emergency Services - QFES ABC Emergency

18.01.2022 Tonight a meeting is being held at the Meerlieu hall to discuss the future of the Meerlieu Primary School. As a community we would love to see it reopened! However this is very difficult to acheive as it needs to maintain at least 15 kids year in year out. If the education department decide they want to formally close it and sell it off then the community wants the education department to allow parents free bus travel to as far as Lindenow PS. Currently the education depart...ment only allows free transport to the closest school which is Lindenow South PS. Ultimately the decision of closure comes down to the community. If you have primary school aged children and live in the Meerlieu and district area and want to help reopen and start a new chapter in the Meerlieu PS’s 140 yr history then please come along tonight and commit your support! The future is in your hands and just maybe we can save the community’s oldest asset ! P.s bring your kids along and show just how many young kids their are in the area

17.01.2022 Over the next few days you may see some of our fire trucks as we significantly increase our capability to protect communities in East Gippsland. These trucks in... convoy (strike teams and task forces) are travelling to be in position a head of expected dangerous fire weather from Saturday to Tuesday. Please be mindful that with such a large deployment (additional 65 CFA trucks heading east along the Princes Hwy) you may encounter some minor delays. They will be travelling in convoy of five trucks and a leader vehicle. They will require refuelling at some locations to be in position Saturday. Our approach to safety is front of mind in all of our operations. With large numbers of CFA trucks heading along the Princes Hwy in their Strike Team / Task Force configuration, we will make every effort to minimise any inconvenience while also maintaining safety for our crews and others on the road. This additional CFA support from the outer metropolitan area of Melbourne and other locations across Victoria is part of CFAs surge capacity to move large numbers of Firefighters according to risk. This latest deployment is on the back of our 55 CFA Tankers and crews that were recently sent to NSW Bushfires rotating over the past 2 months (now returned to Victoria).

16.01.2022 Tonight we attended a non structure fire which was the result of a car bogged in a sand dune and got very hot trying to get out. A great turn out by our members resulted in a quick and effective direct attack on the vehicle which stopped the spread into the surrounding banksia. Police attended and are following up details with the owner
