16.01.2022 As you may be aware, the Meerlieu Hall Committee of Management has been working with Wellington Shire Council for some time in an effort to source significant funding to carry out improvements to the Meerlieu Hall (now owned by WSC) The Committee wishes to construct a new toilet block adjacent to the Hall, incorporating a proper disabled toilet cubicle and unisex shower facilities. Also on the wish list is a storage room for all the tables, chairs, portable stage platforms an...d audio visual equipment, plus a separate hand washing facility in the kitchen. It is our hope that by providing these improvements it will enhance usage of the Hall and the Grounds, whilst updating them for the benefit of locals too. In our applications we have particularly focused on improving the conditions for women’s cricket, as the availability of funding for women’s sport has been given priority of late. However, our opportunity for a grant from the Latrobe Valley Authority fell through as we could not provide sufficient evidence within the time frame. We needed at least 12 months history demonstrating female involvement in the Meerlieu cricket scene. Although girls have played in the juniors for many years, a women’s cricket team has only recently been established in Meerlieu. Our search for funding continues. In the meantime it has been brought to our attention that WSC are currently researching the Shire’s facilities. I assume the facilities are to be prioritized in terms of their importance to their communities and therefore whether they are allocated more or less funding. We need to demonstrate how much the Meerlieu Hall is relied upon by a variety of user groups, and show the pride we have for the Hall and its 108 year history. The Hall is important to the Meerlieu district and we want to ensure the Shire is kept aware of our needs. We don’t want the Hall to become obsolete, but allow it to develop and evolve, continuing to provide our district with the one remaining community meeting place we have. As a user of the Meerlieu Hall, the Committee of Management would appreciate it if you, or your group, could complete the Wellington Shire Council survey mentioned in the link below. By completing the survey, or providing feedback via email (which ever you prefer), we trust the Shire will receive the message from our district loud and clear just how important it is to our community’s wellbeing to maintain and improve the Meerlieu Hall for the future. Sincerely Meerlieu Public Hall Committee of Management https://www.wellington.vic.gov.au//community-infrastructur

15.01.2022 What a great night the community Christmas party was! A massive congratulations to our Vice President Michael Preston on organising such a well run event! It wouldn’t have been possible without a band of helpers aswell especially the Heyfield Lions Club Inc. who rang out ot the blue wanting to do something for our community going through tough times with the drought. They provided and served up all the meat, got a jumping castle for the kids, organised the Briag Bush Band who... entertained the crowd and provided the community with complimentary alcohol and soft drinks! We can’t thank them enough! Thanks to the Perry Bridge Ladies Social Club for providing the raffle prizes and they raised $400 to go towards drought and fire affected local people. We’d also like to thank Santa for coming this year dressed a little more Aussie style, the kids really enjoyed seeing him and receiving presents. But most of all thanks to the community for turning out and bringing the salads and sweets (a lions club member said he had been doing catering for a long time and never seen such a big spread) hopefully everyone has a safe and happy Christmas & New Year.

13.01.2022 6 days to go!! Until the best Christmas party Meerlieu and district has seen! Make sure you tell your neighbours and spread the word... There will be a spit roast dinner with baked potatoes, music by the briag bush Band, jumping castle, face painting & fairy floss for the kids. Santa will hopefully be dropping in and delivering a few early prezzies for the kids (read the flyer for details) All you have to do is BYO drinks and a salad or sweet to share and come along for a great community celebration! All this wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of the Heyfield Lions Club Inc. who are supporting drought affected community’s RSVP for catering purposes to Michael Preston 0405 836 860 LIKE AND SHARE

13.01.2022 The Meerlieu and District Anzac Dawn Service Committee wish to inform the community that this years Dawn Service will be canceled due to the on going events. We are very disappointed but we have an obligation to the RSL and they have asked for all services to be be canceled with general public attending. However we do ask if you wish to still pay your respects then make the effort to get up early and stand outside and observe a minutes silence tuned into the abc offering the... national cermeony and remember the men and woman who sacrificed their lives for our country LEST WE FORGET

12.01.2022 TONIGHT is our community Christmas party! Can’t wait to see everyone for a nice evening of catch ups and socialising with other people in the district. We really encourage new families to the area to come along and meet the community. We’ve got a jumping castle, face painting, fairy floss for the kids, the briag Bush band for some tunes, 12 chooks, 2 types of pulled meat with roast spuds. ... BYO drinks and a salad or sweet to share and maybe a picnic rug If the weather improves If you have a child under 10 please bring a wrapped present for Santa to hand out See you at 6 tonight! PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE

11.01.2022 Let’s all get together before the Christmas period gets busy and have a chilled bbq with everyone in the community. This is a great opportunity for new residents to come meet other locals and experience what a great community we live in. Please LIKE and share the post and event ! ... Everyone welcome!

05.01.2022 Tonight a meeting is being held at the Meerlieu hall to discuss the future of the Meerlieu Primary School. As a community we would love to see it reopened! However this is very difficult to acheive as it needs to maintain at least 15 kids year in year out. If the education department decide they want to formally close it and sell it off then the community wants the education department to allow parents free bus travel to as far as Lindenow PS. Currently the education depart...ment only allows free transport to the closest school which is Lindenow South PS. Ultimately the decision of closure comes down to the community. If you have primary school aged children and live in the Meerlieu and district area and want to help reopen and start a new chapter in the Meerlieu PS’s 140 yr history then please come along tonight and commit your support! The future is in your hands and just maybe we can save the community’s oldest asset ! P.s bring your kids along and show just how many young kids their are in the area PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE!
