25.01.2022 Yesterday (23/11) when about to leave on patrol Meerschaum Vale was paged to smoke sightings at the Tuckean Swamp fire where we extinguished active fire and smoldering peat and obtained assistance from NPWS and Byron 7. Today with a change in wind direction from the south, Byron 7 will patrol the fire ground with Meerschaum Vale on standby. Aerial photo supplied by NPWS.
25.01.2022 The end of the bush fire danger period for the Far North Coast has been brought forward to midnight on Sunday 28th February 2021.
20.01.2022 Another 89 mm of rain in the 24 hours to 9 am today (Sun) with minor flooding occurring on the Tuckean Swamp. A minor flood warning has been issued for the Wilsons River at Lismore tonight with further rainfall possibly leading to the river rising to moderate flood level for Mon - Tues.
19.01.2022 A total of 198 mm of rain at Meerschaum Vale since 11th Dec and more to come, the Wilsons River at Lismore remains below minor flood level. Be aware for falling trees and water on roads.
19.01.2022 Meerschaum Vale was tasked to patrol the Justelius road fire today 16/11 and called in assistance from Wardell 7 & group 6 with a flare up. We also had helicopter assistance to check fire activity and later water bomb hot spots. NPWS continue to work on containing the Nature Reserve fire assisted by water bombing from two helicopters. Burning peat means that the fire can be very difficult to extinguish.
18.01.2022 Meerschaum Vale was called back to the Justelius Rd fire tonight at 9:27pm to a reported flare up and smoke sighting however no flare up could be found. There may be heavy smoke in the area over the next few days as the fire continues to smolder and flare within containment lines. Only call 000 if you sight flames outside of containment lines.
18.01.2022 On Wed 3rd Feb Meerschaum Vale RFS was called to a house fire at 1:58am but after arriving at the fire shed we were stood down at 2:10am when the fire was located in a bin.
17.01.2022 Another 64 mm of rain in the last 24 hrs with more to come and a flood watch issued for the Richmond River catchment. This should put an end to the Tuckean fire which has burned for the last four weeks. Thanks to all the out of area RFS & NPWS crews for coming to our aid.
17.01.2022 The first Meerschaum Vale RFS meeting for the year will be held next wed 3rd Feb at 7pm at the fire shed, 1004 Wardell Road Meerschaum Vale.

15.01.2022 Meerschaum Vale brigade stood down for today & tomorrow with out of area brigades continuing the work on containment. Thanks to all brigades for your ongoing assistance.
14.01.2022 Hi all, Approx. position of Tuckean fire showing nearby roads, also note using original drain names for Tuckean land & water management plan 1996. Winds predicted to strengthen from the North east tomorrow afternoon to 30km/hr with a max 30 deg C. Monday afternoon winds to 31km/hr from the north at 29 deg C. Fire spotting could occur.... Hopefully control lines will hold however a good time to prepare your property for summer. Clean out gutters safely or get someone to assist Mow lawns Rake up leaves and place away from you home or driveway Slash around fence lines & firebreaks Have a firefighting pump, hoses, knapsack & sufficient water available Download Fires near me App & check Download BOM app to track weather conditions Make a choice whether to stay and defend or leave early If fire threatens stay or leave early. Wear overalls or long cotton pants and long sleeve shirt Consider helmet, gloves, mask. Close all windows and doors & leave doors unlocked, unlock gates. Remove door mats Have car positioned to leave with car keys & mobile phone Start pump/sprinklers, * Shelter indoors from fire then come out after front passes & extinguish spot fires Ring 000 if fire threatens your property, however fire trucks may be able to not get to you. 13.01.2022 Meerschaum Vale responded to a grass fire off the end of Justelius Road yesterday 18/11 along with two units from Wardell and two units from Newrybar. The fire had spotted into grassland to the north. Patrols will continue today before the return of northerly winds tomorrow.
12.01.2022 Meerschaum Vale was called to a power line down on Tues night 24/11 in bushland near Chinamans lane Bagotville. A falling tree brought down one wire and caused a small fire when wires clashed. MV2 departed the scene after Essential Energy workers arrived.
12.01.2022 Meerschaum Vale was called out yesterday to assist other brigades and back out again today to patrol fire boundary.

10.01.2022 Total fire ban tomorrow (Mon 23rd) with predicted northerly winds at 30 km/hr at 34 deg C, out of area crews being used today, Meerschaum Vale 2 on standby today and rostered on tomorrow from 11am.
10.01.2022 Meerschaum Vale RFS will hold its meeting next Wednesday night 3rd March, 7pm at the fire shed 1004 Wardell Rd.
08.01.2022 Meerschaum Vale attended a car fire yesterday (Sat 19th Dec) on Wardell Road up from Amber Place. The fire was contained in the engine bay and front section.
08.01.2022 The Bush fire danger period has now finished so permits are not required for fires lit in the open however neighbours must still be informed 24 hours prior and the permit notification line called on 1300 632 174.
07.01.2022 As usual there will be no meeting held in January with the next Meerschaum Vale RFS meeting on 3rd February 7pm at the fire shed.
07.01.2022 Meerschaum Vale patrolled the Tuckean Fire yesterday (Sat 28th), dealt with flare ups and set up pumps to pump water into the fire ground. The fire crossed the track on the southern and western side burning along the drain bank. Today, Sunday there is a total fire ban and conditions are predicted to worsen. There will be three RFS vehicles patrolling the northern side of the link drain as well as NPWS crews with helicopter backup in the Nature Reserve on the southern side.
07.01.2022 Meerschaum Vale responded to a grassfire east of Hendersons drain today (19/11/20) and with assistance from crews from Wardell 7, Alstonville 1 and Group 6 the fire was brought under control. The fire continues to smolder within peat and efforts will be made tomorrow to pump water onto the western front. A change in wind direction tomorrow should aid control on the northern side. NPWS continue to work within the Nature Reserve on the southern side.
05.01.2022 Meerschaum Vale was called to a flare-up of the Justelius Rd fire today along with crews from Wardell & Alstonville while NPWS continue to work on containment in the Nature Reserve. Two helicopters water bombed in the Nature Reserve today and crews will continue to patrol over the next days.
