25.01.2022 Big week here at the Mega Horse Training property. After having a horse rear up and come over on me last Wednesday, (all clear from the hospital ) just major lower leg bruising and an impressive limp, headed to Casino on Thursday, to pick up a load of hay (very slow load on one and a half legs) then off to Toowoomba, on Friday, to the Nutrien sale with clients to look at horses to buy. A super successful weekend with clients very happy with 2 top quality purchases, that ...are both eligible to go back next year for the sale incentive competitions. This great 4yo gelding was one of their purchases. Such a lovely, soft, quiet, well trained gelding being very tentatively ridden by me, as still not much leg strength and a bit of pain in that right leg. Getting better every day and with 3 weeks before his first show with his new owners, it's all go. #horsetrainer #horsetraining #jobhazard #megahorse

24.01.2022 Once upon a time there was a gorgeous princess, who trained unicorns for a living, that had a birthday. It was an important zero birthday and the gorgeous princesses amazing brother asked her what she wanted and of course it was to fly a HELICOPTER. So yesterday was the big day!! Awesome brother and gorgeous princess headed to Coolangatta airport, in amazing weather conditions, to meet pilot and flying instructor Jon. After a brief safety intro it was into the ...Robinson 22, a tower fly by (negative ghost rider the pattern is full ) and then off into the wide open skies for me to take the controls and actually fly!!!! It was soooooo brilliant. Every time I got the "wobblies", Jon, took over, levelled us out and I took over again until the next "wobblies" (official term for frigging it up ) incident. It was totally, amazingly, awesomely brilliant. Thanks so much to awesome brother Phil, for this brilliant opportunity. Thanks to pilot Jon, for your patience and instruction. My next flight will be down to the kingdom and landing on the arena. Gotta get those unicorns helicopter trained. And the gorgeous princess lived super, amazingly, happily ever after. Oh, and training fees went up so she could afford to do her pilots licence. #livingthedream #helicopterpilot

22.01.2022 The new boys Lidol and Mars, the new kids on the block, have been here for about a month now, settling in, getting used to their new routines, being caught and led about, getting used to being stabled and fed as well as dealing with all the heavy machinery I've had coming and going over the past month. They have also been introduced to electric fencing other horses and have started some basic ground work over obstacles, Starting horses under saddle is not just ab...out hop on and ride, it's all about creating an interested and willing participant. Most horses are overtaxed with too much too quickly and become confused and frightened at the very least. I can only progress the training at a speed set by the horse. In these videos, the boys, are interested and intrigued by what Ben & Cath are up to with Billy & Halo and willingly join in on some of the obstacles. Woohoo Double Ben and his liberty team. The boys are now ready to progress to the next step. Thanks Ben & Cath for the videos and for training Lidol & Mars while I wasn't there. #horsetrainer #horsetraining #obstacletraining #stockhorse #megahorse #livingthedream See more

18.01.2022 My 2yo filly by Topend Phantom, out of Glen Lee Rivoli Technique, continues to impress me everyday. Her calm willing attitude and athletic ability is a joy to work with. She had her first muster the other day and even the cattle taking off down the hill running and cavorting, didn't phase her. Looking forward to getting her out and competing. #horsetrainer #horsetraining #megahorse #futurechampions #stockhorse

16.01.2022 Once upon a time there was a gorgeous princess that lived in a modest castle on the hill, guarded by 2 dragons. One dragon was totally deaf and nearly completely blind, (if you're a thief, unread that part), but the snow leopard (No snow leopard icon) covered for the aging guard dragon. Anyway, this gorgeous princess on the hill, trained unicorns and their owners, other gorgeous princesses and princes, for a living. (Now you have the background, on with the st...ory). On this one day, the gorgeous princess had heavy machinery (are you serious? there's no excavator or dozer icons on this crazy ass city phone ) arrive, and the gorgeous princess got to operate both the big ass excavator and the ass kicking dozer and she lived happily ever after. The end. * This story really happened but if your from the EPA, it's entirely fictious with no relevance to any person in the history of the universe, ever. #lighthearted #humour #heavymachinery #livingthedream See more

15.01.2022 Day 2 Bonalbo Challenge. Here's mine and Fant's (Technicality Magic) run in the working cow horse section of the Open Challenge. Thanks Danni for the video Some days, it doesn't matter how much training, how much preparation, how much effort or energy you put in a competition, or how much you want it, things just don't flow right. ... Fant, wasn't focussed or properly with me the entire weekend. There are a number of factors I can put it down to, excuses can be made, but really at the end of the day, it doesnt phase me. Sure, I would have much preferred her to be on her game, but the number of times, she's stepped up for me, over the years, I can't count. She doesn't owe me anything, she's still my number one, go to horse and she's quite entitled to have an off day. And most importantly, at the end of the day, I'm still happy and proud to call her my horse and put her on my truck and take her home. Fant youre awesome. Sometimes in life, you gotta stay focussed on the big picture and let the little things go. Happy horse training, people. #horsetrainer #horsetraining #megahorse #coach #livingthedream See more

11.01.2022 Big day out at Murwillumbah showground today. I took Eric, for his 2nd ridden show under saddle and he won both his maiden and novice hack classes. His owners were super pleased. I then, switched gear and horses and rode Fant, (Yagoneya Technicality Magic, bred and trained by me) wins both her ridden classes (duel trail challenge and time trial). Amelia and Galaxy, had an awesome day in the pony hack ring, winning their first ever champion class. ... Alyssa riding Brita horse Tyson, had a great day in the sporting classes placing in all but one class. Thank you to everyone that made this show possible. You guys are awesome. Team Mega Horse's next comp, will be Bonalbo Challenge at the end of the month. #horsetrainer #horsetraining #megahorse #coach #showhorse #stockhorse #quarterhorse

09.01.2022 Stockmans Challenge Training After being postponed a couple of times, due to rain, finally the first Stockmans Challenge training morning went ahead on Saturday. Starting with the use of the aids, we then moved to effective warm up procedure, and touching on equine mechanics helped students to better understand the reasons for proper setting up of the horse for his turnarounds. With an intensive 3 hour session, mostly at walk, with some trot, all horses were well wo...rked and the riders had plenty of information to take home and practise for the follow up session in June. Thank you to all the participants for a great day. You'll get your follow up email and copy of lesson notes soon. #horsetrainer #horsetraining #coach #stockhorse #megahorse

09.01.2022 Here's a couple of videos from yesterday at Murwillumbah Big Day Out. The first one is Fant and I on the final winning run of the duel trail challenge. The 2nd video is of Britney running the schudda ho course. She actually ran it faster on foot than Alyssa riding Tyson. (Brita horse) The 3rd video is Fant and my winning run in the time trial. Lucky this mare can get about, cause she gives the jumps a bit of a rattle. ... Thanks JD for videoing. Thank you Equinity Horse & Rider Emporium for your prize packs. Thank you to Uni Sporting Horse for running the sporting events. Thank you to TRAS for running the Big Day Out. #horsetrainer #horsetraining #megahorse #stockhorse #obstacletraining #livingthedream

08.01.2022 Stompy, went home on Friday. We shall miss him very much. Here's a short video of his lovely owner, Skye, riding him before she took him home. Skye, came to me and had ground work and ridden lessons over a periodof time, with Stompy, before taking him home. (Skye, is already an excellent rider) Skye, was very keen understand the training techniques I'd used to warm up, cool down, train and problem solve any issues, so that she and Stompy, can continue to progress forwards.... Stompy, is such a wonderful horse and Skye, is an amazing rider, I look forward to watching and being part of their competition career in the years to come. Thank you Skye, for the opportunity to work with both you and Stompy. #horsetrainer #horsetraining #younghorse #warmblood #megahorse #futurechampions

08.01.2022 Alstonville All Breeds Show, today. The main purpose was to qualify Eric, for his ridden palomino class at Sydney Royal next year. After one week of work with me (Mazz, has been doing a fabulous job working him since I started him under saddle earlier this year) it was off to his first show under saddle. After winning all his led classes and taking out Champion Palomino and Champion Quarter Horse, it was time for the serious stuff. Quarter Horse under saddle 1st... Ridden Palomino 1st Champion Ridden Western Breed. And the icing on the cake was Amelia and Galaxy getting the Reserve Champion after winning their ridden Pinto class. I also did all the leg work, running Echo, in her led classes for a 1st, a 2nd and 2 x Reserve Champions. My 2yo filly Finesse went along for the trip and won her 2yo All Breeds Classic, 2nd and Reserve Champion in her led stock horse class. A big day at the office for me, but very rewarding with mission accomplished. Thank you to Mazz and MJ for strapping for me and making sure I was fed and hydrated. Thanks so much to Mils and Danni, who helped me this afternoon with all the horses and feeds after a huge day and thanks to Brit, for sorting all the horses this morning so I didn't have to start at ridiculous o'clock. Yay team Mega Horse. #horsetrainer #horsetraining #younghorse #stockhorse #quarterhorse #showhorses #livingthedream #coach See more

04.01.2022 The new boys in town. Lidol and Mars, both stock horse, quarter horse cross geldings, 3yo here to be started under saddle. They were enjoying "creek time" last Sunday, in the hot weather. Ben & Cath's horses Halo and Billy, showed them the ropes. Both of these cruisy boys will be for sale, once they are solid under saddle. Thank you social media Ben, for the great video. ... #horsetrainer #horsetraining #megahorse #stockhorse #younghorse #younghorsetraining #livingthedream See more

04.01.2022 Riding at the beach As the weather warms up and the days get longer and hotter, the idyllic notion of riding at the beach seems like a perfect solution. However there are many things to consider before loading up your equine buddy and heading of to the sand and surf with your mates. Look at it from your horse's point of view. Big wide open spaces, shifting soft sand, waves that make noise and water that's moving all the time, which is very disorienting for both horse ...and rider. Then, there's usually other beach users on foot, on bikes or in vehicles and generally strange dogs as well. Not to mention the hazards of gutters, holes, rocks, dead marine life and our most recent encounter, patches of quicksand. This is a lot of new stimuli for your horse to deal with. Even for our horses that go reasonably regularly, because the landscape is always changing with the tides and the weather, it's always different. This is ok for horses that are well trained, that stop, back up and shift sideways away from the leg and stay "with you" the whole time. For novice riders with horses that are marginally trained at the best of times, the potential for accidents is greatly enhanced. In these photos it was Carmen and Brrrt's first time at the beach, so we went with a group of older well trained, beach regulars (horses and riders), I had Brrrt, on a lead and we all stayed in walk. This made things, very safe for all concerned as well as giving Carmen and Brrrt a very pleasant experience, something they can both build on next time. So to sum up: * the beach is potentially scary for your horse. You'd better have that flight animal super well trained before going, otherwise you're putting you, your horse and other beach goers at risk. * be mindful of what you are doing. * clean up after yourself (even if it's just at your vehicle) * be kind and courteous to other beach goers. Only pass them at a safe distance in walk. * we don't want to lose this amazing privilege of riding at the beach. Train safe. Ride safe. #horsetraining #horsetrainer #megahorse #beachrides #coach #livingthedream

04.01.2022 Cracker day at Bonalbo Challenge yesterday, Day 1. Amelia Barnes and her horse Ace, win the 8 and under 13 years junior rider challenge and Alyssa Coates, riding her sisters horse Tyson, place 5th overall in the same class. So proud of both these girls. Ace, has been sore for the past 2 months and it's been touch and go right up until mid last week as to whether he would even get to the challenge, but he came good at the right time and nailed it. Alyssa's horse, Da...sh, is out with a bad cut to her leg (it's healing well) so she stepped up to ride Brit's horse Tyson at the last minute. They did a great job together. Today, Day 2, Britney and Tyson and Ade and Technicality Magic, have their final events of their challenges. Huge thanks to Col Mcqueen and her team for organising such a huge event in tough weather conditions. And a big shout out to all the sponsors of this event. It is most appreciated. #horsetrainer #horsetraining #megahorse #coach #bonalbochallenge #livingthedream

04.01.2022 Arena Sorting yesterday at Alstonville and we all had a cracker fun day. Top marks to Amelia and Galaxy (the grey pony) at his first arena sorting comp, doing a great job cutting out, he's normally in the dressage and jumping arena. What a top versatile little pony he has become. Top marks to Alyssa riding Tyson (the black horse in the video that has a couple of bucks), firstly for sticking on him, not hitting the dirt and also for stepping up to ride Tyson (who was on... a spell up until Friday) when her horse Dash, sustained a major injury and put herself out of action for 6 months. Tough life lessons for young Alyssa. Top marks to Britney, who's in the middle of her HSC exams (maths today, good luck Brit) but came anyway so the team could run. She studied between runs. Good on you Brit. Kate's horse Rocketman, was also injured so Kate rode my mare Fant. Was great to see Fant, put through her paces by someone else. My favourite part was the first time Kate, put Fant into a gap and Fant WENT. Kate had her "OH SHIT!!" moment. Told you she accelerates faster than a Lamboghini. Macca, rode Amelia's pony for a bit and had a great time training on him. Gave us all a good laugh. Another awesome day, put on by NRTPA. Thank you guys so much. See you all again next year. #horsetrainer #horsetraining #coach #megahorse #arenasorting #livingthedream See more

04.01.2022 Yesterday was our last mustering day out at Stokers Siding, for awhile. And what a cracker day it was. Clear and crisp with superb views across the hills. After Gary and my last muster solo, where the cattle ran us ragged, it was time to call in the big guns. Brit, riding Fant, was all it took for the cattle to pull their head in and move along as sweet as you please. It saved poor Vicksie, from doing another cattle dog impersonation and running around the hills afte...r cranky cows and calves. Thanks Brit, for taking time out from studying to give Gary and I a hand. #horsetrainer #horsetraining #mustering #cattlework #megahorse #stockhorse #livingthedream See more

01.01.2022 Here's Chase after being here for 6 weeks. This is his first canter after having a treatment with Liz. Prior to that he was very stiff over his back, carried his head super high and was stopping all jammed up on his front end and pulling on the reins. He's not instantly brilliant, but his training can now kick in and he's much more relaxed in his work, is using his body better and his stops are now starting to engage from the hind end. Training positions are now avail...able with me. If you would like your young horse handled, or started under saddle, your older horse's training improved (ground work, ridden work, float loading etc) or if you would like lessons and a training program set up for you and your horse for your chosen discipline, then flick me a message. #horsetrainer #horsetraining #younghorsetraining #coach #megahorse #ridinglessons #livingthedream
