25.01.2022 It will be interesting to see the results of this study, my bet is that vitamin D deficiency is involved in children’s allergies. It’s super important for prospective parents and pregnant mums to test and monitor their vitamin D levels for many reasons including immune health for bub. Don’t forget to seek advice from your qualified health practitioner about nutrient supplementation as vitamin D needs other important nutrients like magnesium to do its job properly. ... It’s a beautiful day to get some freebie vitamin D from sensible sun exposure today! Xx #sun #wonderifthesunhashtagisstillblocked https://www.abc.net.au//allergies-trial-to-test-v/12372224
25.01.2022 Foetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) is something not well known about by the general public. It is a disorder that affects the child with physical, developmental and intellectual disabilities if the mother drank alcohol during her pregnancy. It is now known that any amount of alcohol can cause it and no amount of alcohol is safe during pregnancy. There is also the possibility that exposure to alcohol by both parents in the preconception period may contribute to FASD. ht...tps://www.sciencedaily.com/releas/2014//140214075405.htm This is one of the reasons I’m super passionate about preconception care and education for both parents. 25.01.2022 Important info right there. I’ve lost count of the amount of times a patient has told me their GP has said they are in early menopause because they had their hormones tested while they were taking the Pill . News flash, the Pill causes a temporary chemical menopause meaning you won’t be making any of your own hormones. If you need accurate info about hormones I urge you to follow Lara or get in contact with me. Women have a right to know and understand their body. Xx #righttoovulate #womenshealthrevolution
24.01.2022 One of the many reasons a lot of people are deficient in magnesium is the medications they are taking. Sadly some of those medications are used in the first place to treat a condition that is potentially due to magnesium deficiency. #youdonthaveapharmaceuticaldeficiency
22.01.2022 I’ll just leave this here although FB will probably not let anyone see it because posts that contain the V word are probably fake news. And please see my previous post regarding vitamin D. Xx
22.01.2022 Hey y’all, I’ve just been made aware that some disposable face masks contain a chemical called PTFE the same chemical used in Teflon. This may or may not be a problem but a cotton reusable mask is probably a better option. Also better for the environment. P.S. Please don’t shoot the messenger, if you want to wear a disposable mask please go ahead, I’m just here to share information so you can choose what to do with your health. ... Peace out See more
21.01.2022 Important Update: I have decided to shift all my appointments over to online consults for the next little while. Technology is amazing and allows us to chat via FaceTime, Skype, Zoom or we can even have a follow up appointment over the phone, how cool is that? These virtual appointments are every bit as good as when I see your gorgeous face in person so you won’t be missing out on anything. I do think social distancing is one of the most important ways we are going to lessen the spread of COVID-19 and give our health care and hospital systems a chance to cope, so if we can distance ourselves I think we should. We’re all in this together people, let’s look after one another. Xx

18.01.2022 Hola, happy Friday! I thought I would let you all know what further studies and learning I’ve been undertaking in the last little while lots of study on peri-menopause and menopause and the huge impacts it can have on women’s health and strategies to minimise and improve symptoms and long term health ... An introductory course on PFAS (the forever chemicals ) and the massive way they impact our health, in particular our hormonal system An introductory course on mould in the home and the toxic effects it can have on the body A course on Hair Mineral Tissue Analysis, heavy metals and nutrient imbalances in the body And a course in Medical Astrology which I am absolutely loving! Have a great weekend, don’t forget Mother’s Day on Sunday! Xx

16.01.2022 Fertility may take up to 8 months to return after some types of hormonal birth control. That's according to new research in the British Medical Journal. Average... delay till the return of fertility: - 5 to 8 months for injectable contraceptives, - 4 months for the patch, - 3 months for oral contraceptives and vaginal rings, - 2 months for IUDs and implants. Of course, that's just an average and it does vary a lot. I've observed that women have a harder time if they started hormonal birth control very young, and therefore did not have a chance to mature their menstrual cycle. https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_rele/2020-11/b-uos111120.php
16.01.2022 Wow, almost December Who else is putting their tree up today? My last day for seeing patients is Friday the 18th and I’ll be back on deck from Monday the 4th of January. I only have a few spots left for December appointments and I will be looking at opening up extra evening and possibly Saturday morning appointments over December if needed. Have fun putting up the Xmas tree . Xx
16.01.2022 Happy sunny Sunday morning! I thought I’d give you all a bit of an update on some of the things I’ve been up to in recent weeks. I’ve been doing a couple of courses. The first one is a thyroid masterclass run by a very knowledgeable colleague and thyroid guru. I already had a fairly good knowledge base in all things thyroid health but I’m learning some new info and enjoying hearing about success stories of massive improvement in patients. ... The second course is all about EMF’s (electro magnetic frequencies) also run by another knowledgeable colleague who is a guru in EMF’s and 5G and their potential impacts on human and environmental health. The course is exploring ways to minimise and mitigate exposure. I’m really looking forward to applying some of this info in clinic with my patients. And lastly, I’ve been doing my due diligence and researching as much as possible the new covid vaccines. I’ve also been exploring research regarding other vaccines and the groups they work for and those they don’t. Interestingly, the groups that some vaccines are ineffective in are the obese, the elderly and immune compromised. Peace. Xx

16.01.2022 A lot of people are a bit grossed out by sardines but canned sardines with the bones are an excellent source of dairy free calcium. I’m thinking of trying this recipe with avocado or flavour free coconut oil instead of the butter to make this recipe dairy free. Can’t hurt to try something new right? Might be delicious and healthy! Let me know if you give it a go. Xx

14.01.2022 Happy Tuesday my sweet friends. As a naturopath and nutritionist, I know a thing or two about supporting immune health so I think it’s time that I start sharing some hot tips again because immune health is a pretty important topic right? Let’s start with my favourite elephant in the room, your friend and mine, sugar. ... We’re all pretty aware of sugars ability to rot our teeth, impact reproductive health, it’s contribution to obesity, fatty liver, heart disease and let’s not forget diabetes but did you know that sugar can also compromise your immune health? It does this by blocking our body’s ability to utilise vitamin C, which we all know is a vital nutrient for immune health. Sugar and vitamin C have a similar molecular structure and sadly the body will use sugar instead of vitamin C in the white blood cells which are an important part of our immune defence against germs. There is research that shows that consuming 100grams of sugar can effectively decrease your immune system for up to five hours. https://www.scirp.org/html/7716.html https://academic.oup.com//article-abstr/26/11/1180/4732762 You’ll find sugar added to most packaged and processed foods but it can also be hidden in places where you wouldn’t expect it. For example there are a number of supplements that try to hide the taste of herbs (yes herbs generally taste a bit ordinary, sorry patients ) with sneaky things like maltodextrin which is another name for sugar . As always, get practitioner advice about sugar free herbs and supplements and if you want or need specific advice about yours and your families immune health get in touch. 14.01.2022 Calling all patients! I’m thinking of setting up a private FB group for my patients. It would be a place for members to share recipes, lifestyle tips, healthy product finds, recommending books and docos, gardening hacks and any other important topics relating to health and wellbeing. I’d be happy to answer generalised questions and give my professional opinion on some things within the group but please note that it will not replace appointments or specific advice. ... You’d be visible to other members so this may not be the group for you if privacy is an issue. More than ever we need to develop community, find like minded people and help each other. Let me know if you’re interested. Xx

14.01.2022 There is a load of research on vitamin D, immune health and our ability to fight viral infections. Please read and share the info below and remember if you’re like me and live in Victoria you will be unable to generate vitamin D from winter sun. Bring on Spring and the sunshine Most of us know that vitamin D is generated by sun exposure (without sunscreen) to our skin but what most of us don’t realise is there are 2 main things that have to be in place for that to happen.... The sun needs to be at a minimum angle of 50 degrees During the winter, those who live in latitudes of 35 degrees or higher will not be exposed to the UVB rays required for vitamin D synthesis. What this means is, that if you’re living in the southern states of Australia there will probably be several months of the year where you will be unable to generate vitamin D via sun exposure, no matter how lovely the occasional bit of winter sun is.

12.01.2022 A good visual reminder that health star ratings don’t tell us anything meaningful about how healthy a food is. The margarine and butter blend are full of super crap ingredients that are bad for your health. Cream, water and salt (if you tolerate these) are always going to be a better option than hydrogenated emulsified gunk. Read labels, learn about truly healthy ingredients in foods and avoid foods with crap in it. If you need help navigating this, get in touch. Xx

10.01.2022 Hey hey my friends, hope you are fighting fit and sending love if you’re in a lockdown zone. Sooo we’ve all been washing our hands way more than usual right? So it’s probably a good time to chat about soap and how the type of soap we use impacts our health. Here are some of the problems with certain soap products including bars of soap, hand wash and body wash and links to some research:... Fragrance Most soaps contain artificial fragrances which may mean they also contain a chemical called phthalates. Phthalates are compounds that make fragrances last longer in a product and are known hormonal disrupting chemicals. Phthalates may impact the body in the following ways: May cause liver disease, metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31808097/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26119400/ May worsen peri-menopause symptoms https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26867866/ May affect children’s behaviour and may be associated with ADHD https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31678884/ May impact thyroid function https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27884522/ Artificial fragrances may also cause headaches, brain fog and allergy symptoms. Anti-bacterial chemicals Triclosan is an anti-bacterial chemical that is added to soaps and other personal care products. It has been banned in America but strangely not here In Australia. Lots of workplaces will use bulk bought anti-bacterial hand wash that has triclosan in it. By now we’re all aware of disrupting our delicate bacterial ecosystem, anti-bacterial chemicals like triclosan destroy both harmful and beneficial bacteria. Triclosan may impact the body in the following ways: May impact thyroid function https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20954233/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21058171/ May cause adverse birth outcomes in newborns https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27156397/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26908126/ May promote breast cancer progression https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24684733/ Triclosan may also be contributing to antibiotic resistance which is becoming a huge health issue around the world and may also contribute to a decrease in gut health and an increase in allergies. It has also been shown to contaminate our water ways and harm marine life. These are just a couple of potential chemicals lurking in yours and your family’s soap and there are many others (and I haven’t even mentioned palm oil and animal fats). I’ve been using safe soap products in my home for well over 20 years, if you’re a patient of mine I’d be more than happy to help you choose soap products that are naturopath approved and safe for you and your family. Xx
10.01.2022 In a recent retrospective study of patients tested for COVID19, researchers have found an association between vitamin D deficiency and coronavirus infection. In... a small study group, those with vitamin D deficiency were twice as likely to test positive to the virus compared to those who were vitamin D replete. Given that we have known for quite a while now that vitamin D is essential for a healthy functioning immune system, this is an exciting finding. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releas/2020//200903133007.htm Most of us could benefit from optimising our vitamin D status. Some ways to do that include sunlight exposure, eating mushrooms, exercise and supplementation. 03.01.2022 What is Naturopathy & Nutritional Medicine? Nutritional Medicine integrates evidence based nutrition practice with the principles and practice of natural medicine. Nutritional Medicine has a strong focus on 'food as medicine' and aims to individualise treatment for patients with the understanding that different people have different nutritional requirements. Along with dietary changes, Nutritional Medicine practitioners utilise high quality 'practitioner only' supplements wh...en appropriate. Naturopathy combines Nutritional Medicine, Herbal Medicine and sound lifestyle advice as the cornerstone treatment options. Herbal Medicines can be made 'in clinic' to suit the individual and Naturopaths have a strong background in specific training and education to safely prescribe herbal medicines.
