25.01.2022 Decomposing Memories II (2016) > > > Swipe right to see the reference image This project connects to nostalgia and the memory connected to the changing of time, by the employment of an extremely natural material that has the ability to decompose over time. This concept is similar to memories in which they are naturally acquired through our human growth and development and so gradually withers away if not used adequately. By this, I am inspired to depict landscapes from my p...ersonal life and past onto these small wooden pieces I found. Note: this wood piece is actually missing, I either gave it to someone and forgot or just lost it? So if you have it, please remind me Majority of the images I chose because I grew up visiting many tropical location similar to this one. This image was taken in Thailand on a smaller island that still had the natives residing there in peace. I am planning to create twelve of these and exhibit them together as a collective piece arranged in a circular way representative of time passing on an analogue clock.

22.01.2022 Decomposing Memories III, 2016 (Part 1) These wooden art pieces are intended to portray nostalgic connections to memories and their intangible fragility. This was my first piece with my brother as the main subject, the reference image was photographed in Thailand, to some island, on the way to a snorkeling trip. I selected my brother to be incorporated in these wooden pieces because his presence in these scenes that we both visited as children encapsulates what I precisely observed from my personal perspective, so it is the truest representation of my memories.

19.01.2022 Decomposing Memories III, 2016 (Part 2) 2nd photo - My brother looks like he has seen better days I remember my first acrylic painting in high school it was a painting of a cupcake and it was the most frustrating experience to the point that my mum even hated the painting due to the amount of trouble and time it took to complete. This painting, done 4-5 years after, really shows what a STEEP learning curve on specific painting materials can do after time. Something I have learnt from acrylics, is always start painting the background first and work forwards. There is no limit on the amount of layers possible with acrylic paint.

10.01.2022 New Series Decomposing Memories I (2016) Portrayed above is my first experiment using a wooden slice as my painting surface. I used acrylic paint which works best with the uneven, rough surface compared to other painting media. I tried to incorporate as much detail as possible into the small space available. The only problem I had with this piece was that I ran out of green paint and I only had a green with glitter to work with. This series is inspired by the incredible ...artist, Alison Moritsugu. I really urge you to go check out her work! She creates a visual paradox by depicting rural, scenic landscapes using felled trees as her canvas surface. She aims to retaliate against digital photoshopped images of perfect scenes of nature that give the false impression that the wilderness will always exist. The artist uses the cut branches/ trunks as depictions of windows into the past; these tell an ongoing story about the content. See more

08.01.2022 Finished 'Decomposing Memories III' (2016), acrylic paint on wood slice. To complete this piece I added the wooden roof of the boat and hues of the blue reflection of the water on my brother's complexion. Once I finished the piece, let's just say my brother wasn't pleased I "added eyeshadow" to his eyes. I particularly loved the intense aqua colours, definitely the highlight of the piece for me.
