23.01.2022 I speak to a lot of women at midlife who tell me "I dont wanna get sick and end up in an old persons home, having to be looked after". This is their driver for getting healthy. Theyre usually very clear on what they DONT want. When you think about getting your bum wiped, your bland food delivered, the weather conversation on repeat, singing songs from the 1940s (will they update the tunes to 1980s when its our turn?) Do you think about that? Maybe it wont be so bad ... Why are we even thinking about this? Like its our destiny, its just what happens. What if it wasnt? What would that look like? Train your brain to look for what you DO want. And then tap into those exciting feelings and go do it. Its the feelings that will drive you, fear doesnt drive you to do fun stuff. Its the thought of the fun stuff that will drive you. When you focus on what you dont want, guess where you end up? If you want to feel exhilarated by your life, think about what would be exhilarating. What would you be doing if you felt exhilarated? What would an exhilarated life be like? What would your conversations be about? What would your driver be? Fear or motivation? Sitting in a lounge of funny smelling people or writing your memwhaaas and planning what next. You can choose to be exhilarated by your life, this is available as much as the fear of 2 nurses saying 1,2, 3 liiiiift. Both scenarios have you using your imagination.



22.01.2022 I lost my specs somewhere between Wagga and Brisbane (just a 1,226 km range) I was racking my brain, when was the last time I wore them? Was it the last day in Wagga, it was overcast so I didnt need my sunnies. ... Maybe it was the Qantas lounge, we were there for 5 hours, Im sure I picked up everything when we left. I use them for seeing long distance, Ive got my sunnies as back up. I had been back 3 weeks and still hadnt got my eyes checked, It wasnt from lack of trying. I booked my eye test online for the first Saturday I was back. I turned up early, I love trying all the crazy frames, what do you think of these? as I turn my head from side to side, lips pouting. My husband doesnt have to speak, its the look of horror that I love. The sales lady joins in the fun, "you could totally get away with those, they look great!" I give my husband the smug look, see, she loves em, he pulls out his phone and starts scrolling. End of fun. Im now pumped and ready for my appointment when I get the, "sorry we dont have you in the system" Arrrggggh. Any chance of squeezing me in? Computer says No. Then they asked me the COVID Qs. Because I had travelled the weekend before, I had to wait 2 weeks from this discussion, not 2 weeks from when I travelled. I dont get that, I still dont. She didnt either, shes just following the rules. I had to wait another 2 weeks. When I got the appointment reminder, it became decision time. I had the choice of a road trip to a hiking trail with waterfalls and rainforests or having an eye testing contraption stuck to my head, reading letters and responding yes or no (is that clearer? read the second bottom line, any clearer?), guess which one I went for? We went road tripping. I had been watching tv with my sunnies on for a few weeks now, much to the amusement of my husband. Im happy with my decision, thats whats important. You get stuck with decision making when you believe theres a right or wrong decision. Theres no right or wrong decision, its just a decision. Choose and be happy with your choice. Then decide its the right one and go all in. Dont let you brain tell you otherwise. Thats a waste of energy and keeps you stuck. A lot of the coaching I do is helping people make a decision. 13.01.2022 My client was happy for me to share her progress under the guise of Sherry (we brainstormed to give her a new name) It wasnt that she was out of control or had no control. Beating herself up for her actions had Sherry putting another layer of shame on top of the shame she was already feeling.... Her actions were drinking 2 bottles of wine each night. Sherry thought she was out of control, there was something wrong with her. The problem was, when she thought there was something wrong with her, she wrapped herself a little more tightly in a blanket of shame. Sherry didnt want to feel shame, so she drank to escape that awful feeling. Her thoughts were out of control. She wasnt. She believed what her mind was telling her. To start, Sherry reduced her drinking by 1 glass per night, more importantly she watched where her thoughts went. Step 1 - she started catching those thoughts that were putting her down; Step 2 - she acknowledged the thoughts; and Step 3 - she decided not to believe them. So far, this thought and feeling work has helped Sherry reduce to 1 bottle of wine per night, 3 rooms in her house now decluttered and walking 3 x per week. There is no rush to get there. She is creating a life she loves, she is looking for what went well during her day. She knows the thought loops that trip her up and she is starting to question them and replace them. If you are giving yourself a hard time for overeating or overdrinking, overshopping, overworking or any other over. Check in on what is driving your actions. It starts with a thought. That thought may cause you to feel unhappy, frustrated, angry, sad, shame or any other negative feeling. That negative feeling will drive what you do. When Sherry felt bad about herself or frustrated with an aspect of her life she drank more. It makes sense to question those thoughts, they are the problem, the drinking is just the response. To tackle the drinking without looking at the cause will have you stopping and starting or relying on will power. I teach my clients how to do this for themselves. They take this skill with them. Life keeps happening, just as we continue to have a brain, we will continue to have problems, unhelpful thoughts and feelings. When you know its just a thought, you can decide to keep it, change it or question it. This is how you start to create a life of freedom and choice and stop believing all the shitty conversations in your head. If you want to learn this process, Id love to help you

09.01.2022 This is uncomfortable That is ok This is unsettling That is ok I will say the wrong thing... That is ok Staying silent is not the answer. Staying silent is putting your uncomfortableness ahead of others that need you. The news is dominated by the riots in the US This led me to revisit my own back yard. It was reconciliation week in Australia this week, The theme for 2020 In this together #Blacklivesmatter. If youre thinking all lives matter or want to comment all lives matter. Stop. Go and google Black Lives Matter. Understand what this means. Stop trying to be a nice white person. If youre offended by the term white privilege seek to understand what this means. Ive shared some links in the comments. Theres many ways to contribute Do the work. Educate yourself, seek to understand without bias. Dont put energy into proving youre not racist. Use this energy to lean in and listen, learn about the system that is based on inequity, oppression and divisiveness. The system will only change if we do. Once we drop the defensiveness, we can accept were part of the problem. Ive been challenging my beliefs and stereotype thinking. Its uncomfortable work. Its messy. I have conflicting thoughts. Challenging your beliefs is uncomfortable. Not challenging them is propping up oppression. If you think you cant make a difference, think again. Have a conversation, but more importantly listen to understand, not to comment.

07.01.2022 Accept you and where you are Being where you are and being ok with that is something we can drop into at any time. Its remembering to do this, remembering to just be with what is. I was reminded of this when my Mum passed away a few weeks ago.... Its good to recognise that life happens and we wont be amazing, well do the minimum to get by. Sometimes thats just how its going to be. Taking the time to do nothing, regroup, restore your energy without pressuring yourself to do more. When you can accept that that is ok, then you can use the time for some true self compassion and kindness. Accepting where you are doesnt mean thats it for me. We can accept where we are and still have plans for the future, still know we can strive for new things or visualise a different and even more fun and fulfilling life. We can do both.
