21.01.2022 Im loving pigeon throughout this pregnancy, and almost always include it in my prenatal class sequencesIts my go-to for stretching out all the aches and pains - particularly hips, glutes and lower back - and its a great one to relieve sciatica and piriformis. Something to be mindful of: its easy to over-stretch when pregnant due to relaxin, the hormone responsible for allowing the body to stretch and open as the baby (or in my case, babies) grows and then for delivery. Move in and out of the pose slowly and carefully, use props to support you such as a cushion or folded blanket under the hip of the leg thats forward and a bolster under forearms and to rest the head, and listen to what your body is telling you. Close your eyes, soften into the pose, and breathe.

09.01.2022 Viparita Karani | Legs Up the Wall Pose Some mamas-to-be DMd me after I shared a pic of my legs up the wall on my story the other day so I thought Id do a post explaining the how and why. This pose isnt just for the preggies though, its amazing for soothing the nervous system and relieving achey or swollen legs, ankles and feet in general. If youre not pregnant you dont need to set up the bolster and blocks on an incline, you can lie flat on your back and even take a pil...low under your hips. Ill explain why we elevate the upper body in pregnancy at the end. ~ Leave a little space between your butt and the wall, if youre too close you may get tingly feet ~ A blanket folded under your hips will make it more comfortable ~ Hard to see in the pic but Ive tied a strap around my legs just below the knees with my legs hip distance apart. Not crucial, but this stops your legs sliding apart and you can fully relax your legs. A belt also does the trick. ~ For mamas to be: use bolsters, blocks or pillows to create an incline so that your heart is elevated above your belly. After about 14 weeks it is not recommended to lie on your back as the weight of your uterus can compress the vena cava and restrict blood flow to your baby. You may even find you feel breathless on your back. For me it doesnt feel comfortable to lie flat even if I wanted to. ~ Let your arms relax out to the sides with your palms facing up - lots of nerve endings in the finger tips so this is more restful than palms down ~ Close your eyes and just breathe. 07.01.2022 Teaching my last classes in this beautiful space @thelivingroomyogaschool tomorrow evening before taking some time to wind down and prepare to bring my two little angels earthside. Its been hard for me to let go of my classes but as beautiful @georgiebrownlee reminded me yesterday, this isnt goodbye its just time for me to focus my energy on this next phase. And I will be back!
