25.01.2022 MEGUIAR’S PEOPLE’S CHOICE LEGEND Peter Fitzpatrick and his incredible 1959 FC Holden have won Meguiar’s People’s Choice a mind-blowing three times. The car grabbed this coveted award for the first time 1996 in its white with blue highlights livery. Peter rebuilt the car in the reverse colour scheme (blue with white highlights) to snag his second People’s Choice in 2001. Not happy to rest on his many, many laurels, the FC was rebuilt yet again from the ground up, to become TRILOGY. The mean green machine was again a big hit with the Summernats crowd, scoring this sought-after award a record third time in 2011. A bona fide Meguiar’s People’s Choice legend!

24.01.2022 2014 Best of Breed HOT ROD Chris Langford 1932 Ford Coupe With the introduction of Meguiar’s Superstars Grand Master Award the following year (2015), Chris Langford’s sumptuous ’32 three-window became the last ever winner of Meguiar’s Superstars Best of Breed Street Machine. Called DEUCE, this was Chris’s first, ever showstopper a stunning achievement for the then 30-year-old. Chris is a second generation hot rodder his father, Ken Langford has built a number of well-...known rods over the years. I got sick of driving dad’s cars, so I decided to build one of my own, said Chris. Built over three and half years at home in the garage with a host of help from his father, the coupe is based around a heavily-modified Deuce Customs body which included chopping 30mm out of the front of the roofline to give it a more aggressive rake. Naturally this mod required custom glass all ’round. The finely massaged body mounts atop a Lewis Chassis Works creation that incorporates a Rod-Tech IFS at the steering end and a triangulated four-bar out back. Black Edge Auto Refinishers laid on the custom House of Kolor medium teal paint, while Kool Trim fitted out the interior in Dove Grey leather complete with classy suede inserts. Chris is far from vertically challenged, so a lot of effort went into accommodating his lanky frame in the relatively small coupe. I’ve got 150mm of head room and it’s really comfy in there, says Chris. It’s all been made around me. The Hot Rod’s 383-cube small-block Chev is a real animal and was screwed together by NTS Automotive. It’s backed by a TH700R4 four-speed auto and a nine-inch filled with a 3.73:1 gears and a Detroit Locker centre. Despite looking like it was a freshly finished build, DEUCE had actually racked up hundreds of kilometres. Albeit very careful ones, so as not get any stones chips under the guards. However, that all ended at Meguiar’s MotorEx Melbourne 2014. It had been on the show circuit for two years which was two years of Chris struggling to resist the urge to drive it to keep it fresh. With MotorEx done, I’m now going to get out and start driving a drive it, said Chris. 24.01.2022 MEGUIAR’S TOP 60 MONSTER THE Meguiar’s Top 60 hall is where you find the best elite machines at SUMMERNATS. Daniel Banks’ ballistic Fiat 126 is one of the more unusual rides to make the grade. It is easily one of the wildest machines to grace this hallowed place. And before you ask, yes it runs and drives! Sold as a Niki here in Australia, Daniel, his father and his four brothers built the car in just 12-months. Along the way they managed to shoehorn an injected 5.0-litre Hol...den V8 under the Frenchy’s diminutive bonnet. There’s little doubt the Aussie V8 makes a fair bit more power than the original 650cc powerhouse. Making the most of the generous power upgrade is a McDonald Bros Racing Products 4-link and fat 11.5-inch wide @Mickey Thompson boots mounted on 15x10 rollers. Somehow, they managed to wedge a TH400 between the bent eight and the extremely narrow VN Commodore diff. Inside the minimalist interior, its mostly just cage work, a couple of gauges, a pair of race buckets and lots of alloy panelling. With aspirations of sending it down the quarter, the boys even had the cage @ANDRA tech inspected! Not happy to rest on their laurels, for Meguiar's MotorEx 2012 the crew decided to dial it up to 11 by subsequently adding a pair of turbos you know, for that all-out level of insanity. See more

21.01.2022 Only a select few have ever won both Meguiar’s People’s choice and Summernats Grand Champion in the same year. They are; Peter Fitzpatrick, Aaron Fitzpatrick, Mick Fabar and Ben Sargent - with this ultra-slick 1971 HQ Monaro. This was the coupe’s third rebuild, with the previous incarnation dominating the Summernats Street category for a number of years included taking out Street King and Top Judged Street at Summernats 14. Two years later, Ben pulled the car off the road f...or an exhaustive five-year, full-elite build mostly completed in his home garage with the help of some dedicated mates. Debuted as part of the Great Meguiar’s Uncover at Summernats 23 (2010), Ben then spent an additional two years improving the finish and presentation of the already Top 10 car. In 2012, it returned to take out the People’s Choice/Grand Champion double header. Winning Meguiar’s People's Choice had a lot to do with Ben grabbing the Grand Champion sword, as he only beat out the storming, six-time Grand Champion, Peter Fitzpatrick by one solitary point! Mechanically, the Monaro runs a Holden V8 stroked to 327ci, M21 four-speed manual, and completely smoothed over 9in diff all rolling on Intro billet wheels. Inside was wall-to-wall leather complete with flat floor and custom-made dash filed with aftermarket gauges. Steering wise the stylish two-door runs rack-n-pinion steering, which turns beautifully-detailed suspension.

21.01.2022 MEGUIAR’S SUPERSTARS MASTERPIECE GLENN NOONAN ’32 FORD TUDOR After a seven-year build, the world finally got to see Glenn Noonan’s stunning, gold ’32 Tudor for the first time when the covers came off at Meguiar's MotorEx Melbourne 2016. This was one of the strongest years for inauguration, however 32CDAN certainly stood out. Having campaigned one of Australia’s best known EH station wagons for over 10 years (Top Wagon @ SUMMERNATS), Glenn was inspired by the other Meguiar’s... Superstars to build this rod to a similar standard. I’ve always liked the appeal of the 32, says Glenn. After attending a few MotorEx’s, one thing led to another, so I started the build by placing an order for the Lilow Auto Tech chassis. It sports a Rod-Tech polished stainless IFS up front, along with a triangulated four-bar rear. The ’glass body was purpose built by Deuce Customs and is fitted with smoke tinted glass. To add to 32CDAN’s street cred, its powered by a very healthy 600hp, 400ci Chev force fed by a 6/71 huffer from The Blower Shop, topped by a bug-catcher EFI. Rounding out the driveline is a full-manual TH400 and a Strange Engineering nine-inch which has all been painted in contrasting HOK Bronze. While 32CDAN is plenty tough, what really stands out is the brighter-than-bright HOK gold hue laid on by Jason Able Smash Repairs. They’re perfectionists, says Glenn. On the inside there’s lots of leather, Dakota Digital dash, billet everywhere, modified buckets and a hand fabricated centre console. Other than stitching the interior and the paint, Glenn built the rod in his garage with a tonne of help from family and friends. In fact, Glenn and his son both learnt how to MIG and TIG-weld while building this rod. Overall, it’s been a labour of love, which they built to the best standard they could. Given it scored a Meguiar’s Superstars Finalists invite, it’s pretty clear the ‘best standard they could’ is pretty darn good. For Meguiar’s MotorEx Sydney 2017, a few things were tidied up, the paint received a thorough going over and 32CDAN was equipped with a new set of American Legend Wheels forged-billets. See more

20.01.2022 MEGUIAR’S TOP 60 STANDOUT It takes a tonne of resolve to build a car good enough to make the Meguiar’s Top 60 Hall at Summernats, onto to take it out and ‘drive it like you stole it’ on the burnout pad. But from the outset, this was Gary Myers’ intention for XACUTER. Unveiled at Summernats 21, the HOK purple and silver, EFI-equipped XA Falcon coupe made a series of appearances in the Meguiar’s Top 60, as well as picked up a number of other awards of note. As XACUTER, it took ...out first place in the Go-to-Whoa at Summernats 24 (2011). That same year, Gary also took out Go-to-Whoa third place in his world-famous black/flamed 1965 Mustang along with first place in the epic Burnout Masters final. Wow, 2011 was a massive year for Gary. At Summernats 25 (2012), Gary and XACUTER were back with a vengeance snagging third place in the Burnout Competition (check out the skid vid) proving you don’t need a blower to get onto the podium. In 2014, Team Myers gave the coupe a quick makeover for Meguiar’s MotorEx Melbourne where it carried the new AGROXA plates. Three years later, in 2017 AGROXA re-emerged after an exhaustive revamp. In addition to its new, satin grey livery, AGROXA featured an alcohol swilling, 1000hp, 9000rpm 360-cube Windsor. AGROXA not only delivered Gary his third Street Machine of the Year (SMOTY) award, it served Gary very well in several Burnout Masters finals. Still going strong, it’s no wonder Gary’s XA Falcon coupe is one of the most enduring and popular Meguiar’s Top 60 cars of all time.

19.01.2022 Cameron Hill, winner of the 2019 Meguiar’s Best Presented Award has continued his winning ways by taking out the first overall round victory in the 2020 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Series. Hosted at the Australian Grand Prix, Cameron’s race win on Thursday was enough to secure his maiden Carrera Cup round win, after all remaining racing was cancelled due to Coronavirus concerns.

19.01.2022 MEGUIAR’S STUNNER There’s a lot of history surrounding this silver '34 Ford built by Gary Reid. Originally unveiled at Meguiar's MotorEx 10 (2010), the slick, HOK Orion Silver, 3-window went on to feature in the Meguiar’s Top 60 at SUMMERNATS 24 (2011) picking up a number of awards along the way. Unfortunately, the car caught fire on the side of a Queensland highway and being a fiberglass car, the damage was severe. The firewall, cowl and windshield area, along with pretty ...much everything forward of that was toast so too was most of the interior. Having spared no expense on the original build, Gary was shattered by the accident and made the tough decision to on-sell the damaged shell to Peter Fitzpatrick. Being a Deuce Customs body, Peter was able to source replacement panels to repair all the burnt bits. He also added a new interior - sticking with the same black and red theme of the destructive fire. This stunning rod now lives on until today. See more

18.01.2022 Thanks to Meguiar’s, David Donner’s GT2 RS Clubsport looked as good as it went. The Porsche’s 9min, 36.559s race to the clouds gave David outright victory in Time Attack 1 and third overall at the weekend’s 98th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

17.01.2022 2014 Best of Breed Street Machine Nathan Borg Datsun 1200 With the introduction of Meguiar’s Superstars Grand Master Award the following year (2015), Nathan Borg and his ballistic red ute (HRD WRK) became the last ever winner of Meguiar’s Superstars Best of Breed Street Machine. After being unveiled at Meguiar’s MotorEx Sydney 2013, Nathan fully repainted and retrimmed his mighty Datsun 1200 ute before heading down to Melbourne for MotorEx 2014 (the show’s first year in V...ictoria). Mind you, calling his HOK Blue Blood ute a Datsun is a little bit of stretch, as very single aspect of this incredible machine has been completely remanufactured some of it up to three times! Different aspects would get built, I wouldn’t like it and I’d do it over again, says Nathan. Throughout the ute, Nathan has gone with theme of polish, followed, by paint, followed by polish, etc. For example, the 700hp, turbo 13B engine is painted, the bellhousing is polished, half the Tremec TKO-500 gearbox is painted, the other half polished and on it goes throughout. Body mods are numerous; all the exterior panels from the doors backwards have been fashioned from scratch. At the other end, the guards, nose cone, along with the panels that wrap down into the engine bay, have all been moulded into one piece. The quarter vent windows are gone, so too are all the factory moulds which allows all the glass to mount flush. Then there’s those monstrous 22-inch rear wheels. I love the size of the wheels on such a little car, says Nathan. The interior is all custom, lots of fibreglass and leather, the seats are sunken into the panel work and there’s a centralised digital gauge cluster with the design of its triangular bezel repeated on the rear firewall. The entire build was a massive effort and Nathan was over the moon to be last-ever Meguiar’s Superstars Best of Breed Street Machine winner. 16.01.2022 MEGUIAR’S MASTERPIECE Rob Zahabi’s 1970 Dodge Challenger, HAVOC has just about done it all. After knocking everyone’s socks off when the black, silk covers slid off during the Great Meguiar’s Uncover, Summernats 32, Rob then packed it off to the US where it was again a smash hit. It took centre stage on the Meguiar’s stand at SEMA 2019, before going onto take out the Barret Jackson Cup one of America’s most prestigious custom car awards. Each year, all biggest names in American car building all vie for a spot in the Top 50 Best-in-Show which is whittled down to a final five. From this final five, the Ultimate Best in Show is crowned. In this year’s final five, HAVOC won out over the 2019 Ridler winner and a 2019 Great Eight finalist. Like I said, the Barret Jackson Cup is all about the Best of the Best.

15.01.2022 GREAT MEGUIAR’S UNCOVER 2012 Danny Makdessi VC Valiant With a 3000hp, 521-cubic-inch, Brad Anderson Enterprises blown injected Hemi bursting out the bonnet, mile-wide slicks, huge rear wing and retina searing HOK Kandy Brandywine paint, there is nothing subtle about Danny Makdessi’s VC Valiant it’s one of the most brutal Mopars you’ll ever come across. This wild 1967 Aussie Chrysler has been in the Makdessi family since 1972, Danny’s dad bought it the day Danny was born! ...After which it served as the family car until, Danny was handed the keys in the early 90s. Originally Danny set out to build a blown injected street bruiser, but things go out of hand which he blames Brett Gillespie for. It received a full Somoracz Racecars cage, the full-race Brad Anderson, an Al's Race Glides full-manual TH400 and sheet metal 9in. It also sports a strut front end, four-link rear, Strange Engineering competition shocks everything to meet full ANDRA Supercharged Outlaws NSW specs. As owner of Custom Bodyworks and with Danny being a multi-award winning painter, all the body and paint were handled in house. The candy paint is incredible and includes a ghosted House of Kolor Australia motif on the bootlid. When you’re looking to run mid 6s at 350km/h (220mph) you need plenty of protection, so the cage work dominates the interior. As a neat touch, much of the car’s aluminium paneling was wrapped in carbon fibre vinyl it looks very trick. Unlike most other race cars at this level, the Val is all steel, only the bonnet, boot and bumper bars are glass. All in all, this crazy VC is a bona fide Supercharged Outlaw with factory side mirrors, wipers and wind-up windows. Ya gotta love that! See more

15.01.2022 CHAMPION OF THE DECADE At Meguiar’s MotorEx 2010, all the previous Meguiar’s Superstars Best of Breed winners were invited back to go head-to-head with the winner in each category crowned Champion of the Decade. Mark Course and his brain numbing BOYDSTER II called JUCETR, took out the hot rod division. This Aussie built stunner featured eight-stack EFI, Coddington’s full independent suspension front ‘n’ rear, Boyd Coddington 15 and 17-inch billet wheels and oh so perfect ...rake and stance. Inside the minimalist interior is black leather, Coddington signature series gauges and a matching steering wheel. The original BOYDSTER along with BOYDSTER II were one-off creations designed by Chip Foose when he worked for Boyd Coddington. These first two were both produced in metal with handmade bodies by Marcel DeLay. BOYDSTER and BOYDSTER II were loosely based on a ’32 Ford, while ’33/’34 Fords were the inspiration for BOYDSTER III. The two 32’s won America’s Most beautiful Roadster (AMBR) at the annual Oakland Roadster show; 1986 for BOYDSTER and 2003 for BOYDSTER II. The AMBR is America’s most prestigious hot rod award. Debuting at the Goodguys 6th Nationals at Columbus Ohio, the BOYDSTER III was purpose built for production and was selected as the 2004 Goodguys giveaway car. Boyd offered each of the cars as fibreglass reproductions, which were all manufactured by Deuce Customs here in Australia. To date, around 30 (I/II’s) and 34 of the III’s have been manufactured. Detroit Chassis (who now own Deuce Customs) tell us that there are a few knock-off bodies floating around that came out of Canada. Mark’s BOYDSTER was one of only two ever registered here in Australia. Mark’s car now resides in the USA.

11.01.2022 MEGUIAR’S MASTERPIECE Photos don’t do Jake Camilleri’s ’32 Ford Tudor justice this car stopped you in your tracks. Part of the Summernats 23 (2010) Great Meguiar’s Uncover, it was a nod to the traditional hot rods of the 50s and 60s. Based on a Deuce customs fibreglass body, the regency red stunner is powered by a W-series 409 Chev fed by triple Rochester carbs and sports a sumptuous full leather interior with old-school roof insert. Another standout feature was its painted steelie wheels and huge white wall tyres. Justin and Fang at Detail FX definitely did a great job prepping the car for unveiling as ’32 409’ scored a Meguiar’s Superstars invite for Meguiar’s MotorEx a few months later where it again knocked everyone for six.

09.01.2022 Meguiar’s People’s Choice is one of the most coveted awards at the STREET MACHINE SUMMERNATS. Being determined by the entrants and spectators, many car builders treasure this award more highly than many others. In the 33-year history of Summernats, Joe Lore’s insane XY Falcon (BLOWJO) is the only car to win People’s Choice twice with essentially no major changes. Joe backed up his consecutive Meguiar’s People’s Choice awards at Summernats 21 and 22 (2008 & 2009) by returnin...g in 2010 to grab the Grand Champion Sword. Smooth, smooth, smooth is the theme of this build, with extensive sheet metal work added to the engine bay, interior, boot and undercarriage all of which was painted and airbrushed to perfection in House of Kolor (HOK) BURPLE. Killer driveline includes the towering, 8/71 blown, 383ci Cleveland, C4 auto and nine-inch diff (smoothed to perfection of course). Suspension wise there’s a four-link out back matched to an RRS strut front end, combined with 20-inch Intro Wheels. As wild as the outside is, it pales in comparison to the interior. The cabin features a custom-made dash and centre console, flat floors, partially sheeted-over doors and a fibreglass hood lining. The one-piece liner neatly wraps around the race-spec roll cage and blends seamlessly into the FoMoCo’s metal structure it’s also painted and airbrushed like the rest of the car. BLOWJO drew a constant swarm of people whenever it was on show. It recently changed hands, with an eight throttle-body set-up in place of the blower. See more

05.01.2022 STAYING POWER Justin Gardner’s EH Holden is proof positive that if you build ’em right, they’ll last a lifetime. The stunning HOK Brandywine EH was part of the Great Meguiar’s Uncover way back in 2011 where it not only knocked ’em dead in the Meguiar’s Pavilion, it also managed to pick up 2nd sedan and a spot in the Top 20. At MotorEx 11 later that same year, the belly scraping sedan made its first appearance as a Meguiar’s Superstar. Fast forward to 2020, guess whose nam...e has appeared yet again on the Meguiar’s Superstars Qualifying list. Yep, it’s virtually the same car untouched albeit beautifully maintained by Justin and his father, Rob who run Detail FX in A.C.T. This is the fourth time Justin’s classic Holden has qualified for Meguiar’s Superstars not bad for car built some 10 years ago. Highlights include, Vortec blown, Holden 355 stroker V8, CNC-ported alloy heads, EFI, Powerglide Trans, nine-inch diff, triangulated 4-link rear, coil-overs all ’round, 20x11 rims out back, Wilwood brakes, custom leather interior with flat floors and a fabricated steel dash. Not to mention the acres of hand-formed sheet metal in the engine bay and undercarriage. Pure class. See more

03.01.2022 MEGUIAR’S MASTERPIECE BROWN SUGAR Richard Dabbs’ BROWN SUGAR was a Meguiar’s Superstars standout at Melbourne’s first Meguiar's MotorEx back in 2014. Built as a homage to the over-the-top show rods from the late 50s and early 60s, Richard’s metalflake masterpiece was THE talking point of the show. Period style details of the 1930, all-steel, A-Model include an aggressively chopped and channeled body (with open roof), HOK Root Beer Kandy paint, SO-CAL Speed Shop Pomona front... end (with Super Bell axle), incredibly detailed 348 Chev W-motor and wild interior. The intense interior by Rocket Kustom Auto Trim, features drastically narrowed ’56 Olds dash, plus acres of stark while vinyl offset by gold metalflake paintwork and gold metalflake vinyl. Giving it an eye-catching glow, is yellow tinted Lexan windows. Greg Ford built the chassis, while Mat Egan and C.A.D Custom teamed up on the incredible paintwork. Sitting at the front is a 60’s Chev W big-block dressed to impress with Offenhauser rocker covers, Edelbrock Performance inlet manifold and Stromberg 97 carbs. A Ronco Vertex magneto and red MOONEYES plug leads supply the spark. The rest of the running gear is also 60s vintage. The two-speed Powerglide is the same ‘box Chev originally used behind the W-series, while the 9in was yanked from a 60s Thunderbird. Even the ’49 Ford taillights are period correct. Braking is one of the few areas where BROWN SUGAR deviates from the 60s’ theme. Mind you the modern 4-piston Wilwood Disc Brakes set-up is hidden inside polished Buick-style finned drum covers. BROWN SUGAR is about as wild as they come. See more

01.01.2022 MEGUIAR’S MASTERPIECE Unveiled at Meguiar's MotorEx in 2011, Brendan Findlay’s VE Commodore coupe is one of Australia’s wildest custom cars. You’d never know it, however this one-off two-door started life as a 2010 HSV - Holden Special Vehicles Maloo ute! From the firewall back, Waddingtons Street Rod & Restoration Centre custom fabricated virtually every square inch of this trick coupe. This included giving it the wide-body treatment and creating a W427-inspired body kit. Ho...wever, Brendan’s beast is more than just good looks, there’s a Harrop Engineering supercharged 427ci LS lurking under the hood. The Harrop logo also appears on the exhaust system, as well as on the massive brakes hiding inside the equally massive 22-inch billet wheels. Poking your head inside, and you're greeted with a very factory looking, HSV-style interior. It’s so good, you’d be hard pressed to tell this is not a production car that rolled off Holden’s assembly line before being shipped over to HSV for special attention.
