24.01.2022 One of our beautiful families lost their little girl last year, Matilda was 18 months old and we had the pleasure of meeting and photographing her only 4 weeks before she grew her wings. Matildas family have started a petition, please read and support Matildas family. "In April 2019 our daughter, Matilda, was found lifeless in her cot. In an instant our home became a crime scene and the last 48 hours of Matildas life was scrutinized. ... To assist police in determining what happened to our bright, baby girl we had to give them a number of items; her pyjamas, her bed covers and her health record book (red book). This book contained information about Matildas growth, comments from our midwife and her GP. Through this book I could retrace her short life. Fast forward nine months, we received the final coroners report, however none of her belongings were returned to us. We reached out to the investigator to request the red book back only to be told it was destroyed months ago. I feel as though Ive lost more of Matilda. If youre a mother, parent, or grandparent you will understand the significance of holding onto little keepsakes as your child grows older. As a parent who has lost a child all I want is to hold onto everything of hers. Moving forward, parents/carers should be offered these items back once an investigation is complete. This may be as simple as a question during interviewing, a phone call or a tick box on a form. 20.01.2022 For years I had heard of 'photographer's child syndrome'. Laughed at the stories photographers told of when they were trying to photograph their own kids - how they wouldn't cooperate, run from the camera, none of the normal tricks work because they know them too well. Now I am experiencing it first hand with my boy and step kids...it's not funny anymore. It took a while but we got one and it was perfect! 04.01.2022 We would love you to join us this Tuesday 7th July for our online support group. It allows bereaved parents to connect with others that understand in a safe, su...pportive space. It also allows bereaved parents from outside of Brisbane to join us. It is open to anyone who has lost a baby or child of any age from any cause (including stillbirth, interruption of pregnancy , neonatal death, death of an older child). You can share as much or as little as you would like and please know there is no pressure to talk if you do not feel comfortable doing so. It is perfectly fine to just listen. Date: Tuesday 7th July Time:1900-2100. Please rsvp to [email protected] by Monday night (6th July). Please share with your networks. We hope to be back to our 'in-person' groups in next month. Below are some of the things and thoughts we shared during our last group: - Thoughts shared amongst the group about instructing those around you of how to support you writing a letter to articulate what you would find helpful. - The experience of Mothers Day - what this was like for the Mums in attendance, but group also heard from the Dad present; - Having a choice about whether or not you share the story of your family a full or edited version what you say to the checkout operator about what your day is like, will be different to how you respond to a compassionate friend; - Differences in grieving as an individual, grieving as a couple, the experience of grief for children seems they sometimes lead the way. - Hearing and remembering your child is so important. Fear that your child will be forgotten, so opportunities to remember are created and nurtured. Precious Wings Memory Box a lasting legacy to your child. - Comfort drawn from hearing and seeing others who are now able to give back, pay forward the learnings made after a childs loss; If this mother, father, family can survive this, perhaps I/ we can too. - The pain of grief does not remain as raw, and does change over time. Does not fully disappear, significant events still hurt, but equally unexpected triggers can catch you unawares. Some days, you just need to give yourself over to feeling the sadness and yearning.
