25.01.2022 The preservation of health is easier than the cure of disease - B J Palmer

25.01.2022 Merry Christmas! Thank you for your support in 2020.

25.01.2022 Look for the ‘sweet spot’ when setting up your mattress, pillow, chairs and shoes. The right set up will give you an immediate sense of relief. It’s an odd thing to talk about but it actually incredibly important. The sweet spot (when found) is readily noticed when setting these up correctly. It’s a sign you’ve got it exactly right. ... It’s like you’ve got the tension out of your body. You can even feel happier and clearer in the mind. You instinctively want to take a deep breath in. You don’t even notice your body. Most people don’t try hard enough to find this exact position and thus never get the amazing benefit of this advice.

24.01.2022 Although we recommend a firm mattress, specifically the one that Richard, Ben and Sam designed for ABCA, it is the combination of mattress and pillow height which really makes the difference to your quality of sleep from reducing aches and pains upon waking, to a consistent nights sleep and waking up refreshed, alert and ready to go.

24.01.2022 Melbourne City Chiro will be closed tomorrow for the Australia Day Public Holiday. We will be back on Wednesday morning at 7am. See you then!

24.01.2022 Here at Melbourne City Chiro, we care about posture. A recent study has found that forward head posture may lead to abnormal afferent nerve impulses and sensorimotor control. In laymen's terms, in means the impulses that you neck is sending to your brain are being disrupted.... Improving forward head posture is one of our primary focuses at Melbourne City Chiro. It's common for clients to report better balance, co-ordination, physical performance when getting care. These studies simply support our long held belief that posture has a huge impact on your overall health and well-being, well beyond the reduction of aches and pains. 24.01.2022 Today MCC took some time to look inward and make some plans so we can provide the best possible service for our people. After hours of training and brainstorming we went for lunch at @sudfoodandwine so we could see another #melbournecbd business in action that is known for exceptional service and they didn’t disappoint. One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. #melbcitychiro #chiropractor #service #fivestar

23.01.2022 Pay attention to the angle of your seat. The back of your seat should be higher than the front. Doing so tips your pelvis slightly forward which in turn leverages your body into a more upright position. Test this and you’ll see it’s right. ... How much angle differs between each body and seat so you need to test to see what’s right for you. Just see what angle is most comfortable and holds you up best. If you can’t change the angle of the seat then grab a seat wedge that we have available in our practice.

23.01.2022 Back in our masks and ready to serve. #melbournecbd #melbcitychiro #chiropractor

22.01.2022 Our recommended pillow is the ABCA pillow. It is a unique style of pillow that allows for precise height measurement for side sleeping. Getting this right can be a game changer for your body. We have these available in practice or here https://www.abcaustralasia.org.au/product/adjustable-pillow/

22.01.2022 I like to think we are miracle workers here at Melbourne City Chiro but even we can't correct years worth of compensations in 5 minutes.

21.01.2022 Melb City Chiro is open up until Wednesday 23rd Dec, so there is still time for an adjustment before Christmas.

21.01.2022 Who hates getting their feet corrected as much as this person!

19.01.2022 Dr Sam is great at adjusting our Christmas Elf, I reckon a gingerbread man would be a piece of cake for her.

19.01.2022 If you’re working off a laptop you should invest in a wireless keyboard and mouse. That way you can place the monitor directly in front of you rather than looking down at it.

18.01.2022 2020 has been a weird year so let's let it go.

18.01.2022 If you think your pillow height is nearly right but wake in the middle of the night, you are very close to the right set up. Try lowering your pillow just a little.

17.01.2022 As a general guide; if you wake feeling stiff and sore in your neck and shoulders your pillow height is too high. If you wake feeling sore in your low back, hips or legs, your pillow height is too low.

17.01.2022 The more effort you put into your sitting, sleeping and footwear choices and set up the better your body will feel. We cannot over state the importance of your at home and work place advice. You will never feel as good as you can unless you put the time and effort to get these things right. ... Take the time and get your body right.

17.01.2022 Avoid seats that have a dip at the back. This will roll your pelvis backwards, compress your low back and push your upper body forward

17.01.2022 Compare your posture and breathing when standing barefoot on carpet vs a hard floor. Most people will feel worse in the carpet. Why? ... The soft carpet often allows your heels to roll back and will collapse your posture somewhat. The significance of this is that many shoes allow exactly the same thing. The result being a body feeling and functioning worse than it should. You either need to replace the shoes or modify them using a heel chip from our practice.

15.01.2022 Make sure you heels of your shoes don’t sink down. Your heel shouldn’t sit lower than your forefoot. Sometimes shoes start to sink down at the heel. Think of thongs that have worn down over a long period. ... When this happens your entire body will compensate forward and then lock up to protect itself.

15.01.2022 Dr Ben has just finished reading the excellent book ‘Why We Sleep' by Mathew Walker. To help improve your sleep, Professor Walker has developed 12 tips for healthy sleep. They are as follows; Stick to a sleep schedule. Wake up and go to bed at the same time each day. Set an alarm for bedtime as well rather than just morning. This is the most important piece of advice. Exercise, but not too late in the day. Try to exercise at least 30 mins most days but not later 2-...3 hours before your bedtime. Avoid caffeine and nicotine. Coffee, cola's and chocolate all contain caffeine and can take 8 hours to wear off fully. Therefore, a coffee in the late afternoon can make it hard to fall asleep at night. Nicotine is a stimulate causing smokers to sleep only very lightly. To check out the remaining 9 tips from Professor Walker, and to learn Dr Bens additional tips read the full article here: https://bit.ly/2LUyDpv

13.01.2022 Stuck sitting on a poor chair? Tuck your feet under the chair to help leverage you more upright. Sometimes you get stuck in a poor chair in a cafe or perhaps at a friends pace. One that rolls your hips back and collapses your posture. ... Try sitting forward in the seat and tuck your feet under you. It’s not perfect but can help avoid the larger problems arising from a poor seat.

13.01.2022 You almost never feel pain where the cause is. You feel pain where your body compensates. Look for causes, not compensations.

11.01.2022 Congratulations to Sam and Richard for being re-elected to the ABCA Board.

11.01.2022 The scene at Dr Sams house this morning. We've got you Santa!

10.01.2022 How do you know if your home office is set up right? Try this simple test - sit down, breathe in, then out and let your body slump. Does your breathing feel restricted? Does your body slump and collapse? Do you feel tension and tightness? ... If so you need to make some modifications. Click to to find out more https://youtu.be/j9M1booWrYo

09.01.2022 The more precisely your seat is set up, the better your body will feel. Take the time to get this right. Don’t rush it. ... Time spent getting this right now pays dividends in the future.

09.01.2022 Research shows improvements in breathing, mood, mental clarity, sleep, strength and physical performance, among others, are related to improvements in posture.

07.01.2022 Consider moving to a barefoot or minimalist style shoe. They allow the foot the freedom is designed to have and give you more sensory awareness. We recommend the brands Vivobarefoot and Xero

07.01.2022 Your body isn't Amazon Prime. It takes more than 2 days to get what you want. - Unknown Change takes time, It took your body weeks/months or even years to get to the position it is now. It cannot be undone or 'fixed' in two days. Give the process the time it needs to make the change and you will be amazed.

06.01.2022 When setting up your side lying sleep position, don’t try and ‘make your spine straight.’ Many times clients tell us that they had their partner make sure they looked straight when setting up their sleep position. That’s not our advice! It’s not about straight. ... It’s about balance. We all have a very unique collection of twists and imperfections in our alignment. We want to support and balance our current position rather than force straight. Let our unwinding process handle the rest. Use heavy eyes and comfort as your guide to setting up your pillow.

06.01.2022 Melbourne City Chiro will be closed for the Christmas Break from 2pm Wednesday 23rd December to 7am Monday 4th Jan 2021. Book now to make sure you get a tune up before your Summer break.

06.01.2022 That snowman has been spending too much time on his phone in 2020. He has text neck!

05.01.2022 Research tells us that health is intimatly connected to posture.

05.01.2022 We will remain OPEN for essential healthcare over the next 7 day snap lockdown. If you have any questions or concerns please call our office.

04.01.2022 It's easier to stay well that it is to get well.

03.01.2022 Do you get up from a chair feeling stiff or sore or painful? If yes, you know that chair is creating problems for you. Talk to your chiropractor (or send us a message) to find out the correct way to set up your chair to support your body.

03.01.2022 Always sit on a chair that has your hips higher than your knees. It will reduce pressure on your body by keeping it more upright. How high needs to be tested for each individual. Just use comfort as a guide and notice how easy your posture holds itself upright. Pay attention to how easily you breathe. We encourage you to intentionally go too high so you know where the limit is. For many it will be higher than you think.

01.01.2022 Ensure your feet are planted on the ground (not dangling) when sitting in your office chair. This is especially important if your legs are too short for the desk your sitting at. If they are then use a foot wedge or step to get your feet grounded.

01.01.2022 Do you wake up feeling more stiff and sore than you did going to sleep? It's likely your sleep set up is wrong. Take this as an opportunity to look at how your mattress, pillow and position is impacting your sleep. ... If you go to bed feeling fine but consistently wake up feeling worse than you can almost guarantee that you have a problem with you sleep set up. It might be your mattress is too soft. It might be your pillow height needs to adjusted. Watch our video instructions for ideal sleep and see if you can wake feeling better. https://youtu.be/atgKulJ4OBU
