15.01.2022 In addition to the MJC's weekly Sunday night series at The Jazzlab, we also present occasional concerts at other venues. On Saturday June 26, 7.30 pm, BALL HANLON SCHULZ launch their debut CD at Christ Church, 8-10 Glenlyon Road (near corner of Sydney Rd), Brunswick. This unconventional trio of highly credentialed improvisers - Eugene Ball (trumpet), Ben Hanlon (double bass) and Anthony Schulz (accordion) - draw from their collective experience in classical, jazz and folk tr...aditions to reveal something not quite any of the above, and hitting the mark as something entirely their own. "The Land of If" is a playful foray into intimate moments of our everyday lives and an inquiry into quotidian truths. Very much an acoustic-based ensemble, they are launching their debut album, The Land of If, in the wonderful acoustics of this church space. 11.01.2022 As if the CD Launch of the Unbroken Trio is not incentive enough, tonight's concert at The Jazzlab also features a rare solo performance from pianist/composer Joe O'Connor, who always invests much thought into his projects. He will be using a new setup with vibration speakers, performing in between sets by Unbroken trio.

09.01.2022 The MJC is pleased to be hosting another CD Launch this coming Sunday at The Jazzlab, with the duo of James Sherlock (guitar) and Ben Hanlon (double bass).They explore their shared passion for jazz and backgrounds in classical music in their second album, Stravinsky, featuring two suites based on the larger scale ballet works of iconoclastic composer Igor Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring, and Petrushka (plus works by Debussy and Gershwin). Double bill, with opening set from the young duo of Merinda Dias-Jayasinha (voice) & Isaac Gunnoo (double bass). 7.30 pm. $25/$18 concessions.
