25.01.2022 Scrolling through facebook today we've seen so many posts about missing dogs, with a lot sadly not having a good ending for the families and dogs. The weather in Melbourne is absolutely horrendous right now, there are terrible storms happening every where which has prompted this post. Please, if you know the weather is going to be bad with thunder storms predicted, make sure before you leave for work you do a yard check to make sure your dog is safe and secure with no areas ...Continue reading

24.01.2022 <3 INTRODUCING ICED VOVO <3 They broke the mould when they made Iced Vovo! (aka 'Vo' or Mrs Vovolina.) She's an incredible oddball - loves to jump on the bed to say hi, and then bolt off in search of another adventure. Vo can't stop - she's busy! She's got the most incredible blue and apricot coat, big green eyes, and is a total sweetie patootie. She loves curling up with her sisters (Tim Tam and Gingernut), but is equally affectionate with humans too. ... Habits include picking up that thing you dropped on the floor and running in circles with it for 8 hours. It's hers now. Vovo is a 'Covid Kitten" so she hasn't been exposed to too many visitors in her foster home. She will need a patient cat savvy home to help her adjust, and no small kids. Iced Vovo is an inside only kitten. Name: Iced Vovo Breed: DSH Age: Approx 7 months Desexed: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Adoption Fee: $250 Microchip: 956000007402877 Source No: RE115578

23.01.2022 Working from home feels On the phone to boss: yes working so hard to get those reports finalised! Being so productive! Actual me: (This social isolation update is bought to you by Gypa, who will be available for adoption soon and who is loving working from home )

23.01.2022 <3 INTRODUCING JACKS <3 This beautiful boy is the epitome of loyal and fun loving! Jacks is a beautiful energetic boy who lives to make humans happy and to always be at their side, he just loooooves the loving! Scratches, pats, belly rubs, couch cuddles, ear rubs, any form of affection and he is putty in your hands! Jacks is so loyal and it doesn't take long for him to fall head over heels in love with people, he craves that one on one attention and to have a family who looks... at him with constant love in their eyes, the way he would at them. Jacks also loves to play, in fact, if you give him a ball he would play fetch non stop all day! He loves to get out in the yard and zoom around and show off his athletic abilities, the more toys the better, but balls are his absolute favourite! Jacks is very fit and healthy and goes on at least an hour walk every day. He is a talkative boy, in that very special staffy way, and will sing 'OOORRRROOOOOW!' at you if you aren't putting your shoes on fast enough to take him! Jacks loves to have a chat when he's happy, or sad, or in need of yummy treats, he makes the cutest little grumbling noises or noises of complaint, but he isn't a barker. Jacks also understands many commands and is perfectly well mannered with a few being 'sit' 'stay' 'wait' 'fetch' and he also understands when you spell W-A-L-K and F-O-O-D, there's no fooling this guy! As mentioned earlier Jacks is very energetic and loves walks every day, he is great on lead and he also loves car travel and going out and about. Because Jacks is such a social boy and just adores attention and affection he would be best suited to a home that doesn't work long hours or is likely to leave him alone for a long time. Jacks would also be best as a only pet, he prefers to be the centre of attention, and deserves to be! So for this reason we are seeking a home with no other animals. Jacks loves everyone, kids included, but he can be quite strong and gregarious in his play, so older kids only, teenagers would be perfect! If you are interested in having the very very very best friend you have ever had and have a staffy size hole in your heart, please consider this handsome lad and send us an application, here is the link - http://www.melbourneanimalrescue.org.au//dog-adoption-appl Name: Jacks Breed: English Staffy Age: 5 Desexed: yes Vaccinated: Yes Parasite prevention: Yes Adoption Fee: $550 microchip number - 982000356435940 source number - EE101639

22.01.2022 <3 FOR THE LOVE OF CATS <3 Recently we have taken in a number of cats and helped vetwork more. We have saved cats from stray communities, surrenders from vet clinics with complex medical needs, owner surrenders and pound cases. In just a few weeks we have spent thousands on these beautiful babes who had fallen on hard times and were either facing neglect or abuse, or left on the streets to fend for themselves. Every cat we take in, we actually loose money on. By the time we o...rganise supplies and fully vetwork our cats, just the standards alone cost more than their adoption fee. In order to keep rescuing our feline friends we rely on fundraising and the adoption fees from dogs, and kind hearted members of the public like yourselves. We know it's late, but if you are interested in helping save the lives of cats at risk, we could really do with some help this tax time. Every donation over $2 is tax deductible, and if you haven't done your taxes yet and want to make a tax deductible contribution, even in a small way, please think of these gorgeous bubs who now happily have a second chance at life, and hopefully with your help, we can give other less fortunate cats and families the same chance. If you would like to donate via GiveNow who will send you a tax receipt directly here are the details - https://www.givenow.com.au/melbourneanimalrescueinc If you would like to donate directly to our bank account and would like a receipt sent to you, here are the details - Westpac Melbourne Animal Rescue Inc. BSB -033-127 Account number: 401726 (please email [email protected] for a tax receipt) Or click the button on this post to donate over facebook Thank you so much for any assistance, many purrs and gentle head butts and kitty chirps of happiness from our now safe feline friends <3 xo

18.01.2022 Last week we took in this adorable tiny Bub who had been bought into a vet clinic as a stray. Sadly at only 5 weeks old he has been unfortunate enough to have lived a life of poor nutrition, and whilst finding him self abandoned on the side of the road was attacked at some point by a bigger animal. Despite this he was very friendly, very hungry and showed that he has an amazing fighting spirit! He was taken to an avian specialist to be placed under a general anaesthetic for X...-rays, where sadly it was found he injuries were much worse than first thought! This poor baby, who we have dubbed 'Little Dude' had a total of 8 fractures which were no doubt partly due to poor nutrition and breeding practices, and he also suffering from Ricketts!!!! How an animal this tiny has survived we honestly have no idea, but we are committed to getting him back to peak health and finding him a new home just as we would for any dog or cat. Little Dude was an unexpected rescue, but we couldn't see him suffer and he is now on multiple different medications and a nutritional and rehab plan. We so far have spent over $400 and the costs are rising, so we are asking our bird loving supporters for a little help. If you love your feathered friends just as much as the furred ones we usually rescue, please consider donating a few dollars to Little Dude so he can get the best medical care available! Details on how to donate are below For those interested in improving their birds health, please read the following nutritional information for Budgerigars - - Dry seed alone is very high in fat while being low in protein and many essential vitamins and minerals. - A budgerigar kept entirely on dry seed can end up with multiple problems such as poor feathering, respiratory disease, fatty liver and diabetes. - The best diet for a budgerigar includes pellets, fruit and vegetables and small amounts of seed as a treat. The diet we recommend be fed: - High quality budgerigar pellets (These are low in fat, and high in vitamins and minerals that your bird needs. Pellets should form 50% of the diet.) - A range of fresh fruit and vegetables (These should always be available for your bird and provided fresh daily. Peas, corn, broccoli, celery leaves, capsicum, carrot, spinach. Darker coloured vegies are generally more nutritious.) - Budgerigars usually appreciate fresh grasses and native plants, especially the seed heads. Milk thistle is also good for birds. - Flowers, branches and leaves from the common natives are safe to give your budgerigar. They provide a good supplementation of food and entertainment for your bird. Fresh water always available and changed daily Donations for Little Dude over $2 are tax deductible, please contact us if you require a tax receipt donations through Givenow - https://www.givenow.com.au/melbourneanimalrescueinc Direct bank transfer - Melbourne Animal Rescue Bsb: 033 127 Acct No: 401726

18.01.2022 Apologies to everyone who has contacted us lately and also those waiting to hear back from their adoption applications. Please bear with us, we will get back to everyone, sorry for any inconvenience I hope you all understand how stressful this time time is xo

16.01.2022 Lutana Amanda Update Our darling little bub went into Southpaws Specialty Surgery for Animals today for her post op X-rays and consult with Dr Sarah Austin who performed her fracture repair two weeks ago Two weeks ago Lutana Amanda was a malnourished undersized rubber boned tiny 6kg waif, but today, she’s made it to over 10kg!!!! We can’t believe it! It’s amazing what good nutrition and proper medical care can achieve, which we have done only thanks to our amazing dog ...loving communities support! Dr Sarah was very pleased with how Lutana’s leg is healing - the plates are still in place, no sign of infection, and the break has a good callous forming which is what we want. Sadly she still has to have strict confinement for another 2 weeks so keeping her happy and entertained is a real struggle, particular because she is soooo clever! Today she was a very happy girl though, she got to hang out with Koda who is nurse Isabelle’s giant good boy Gsd. Koda can even give Lutana a run for her money when it comes to amazingly cute head tilts! And she got to have a photo shoot with the best reception team, how amazing is the photo they took! Huge thanks once again to Southpaws for their care and of course to all our supporters for helping to save Lutana Amanda’s life We will continue to keep you updated with her progress! (Secretly hoping that next weigh in she hasn’t gained another 4 kgs, ouch my back )

15.01.2022 Please welcome Aria, Jacks, Ollie and Kewpie into our rescue family These beautiful dogs have been saved thanks to a small army of amazing people - Huge thanks to Nicole and Ness, Andreea and Shannon, Danielle and Johny, and Kara and her crew of housemates! 15.01.2022 <3 Loving foster carers needed <3 Right now we have a few dogs that are in need of short term and emergency care and would love our amazing animal loving community to help spread the word! Of course we still always need long term foster carers, but right now we need all the help we can get whether that be short term or long term! Ideally for ease of transport and proximity to vets etc, the south eastern and eastern suburbs of Melbourne would be ideal, but very happy to also h...ear from people all over the state <3 If you are interested in helping asap, please fill in a form with as much information as possible - https://www.melbourneanimalrescue.org.au//dog-foster-appli Thank you so much for any assistance, and please share this post so we can help more dogs in need asap <3

14.01.2022 <3 INTRODUCING GEOFFREY <3 What is there not to love about the Labrador breed? They have the most - Adorable cheeky grin... Water loving fun seeking nature Ridiculous levels of happiness Loving looks in their eyes that make you feel you are the centre of the universe Whole body wags of happiness And our beautiful Geoffrey embodies all of these great attributes and then some! Darling Geoffrey is your typical Labrador pup, full of beans and full of love and he is desperate to find a fun loving family who will take him on regular adventures and let him be a fully fledged family member Geoffrey has his basic manners down pat - sit, stay, wait, etc, he is also toilet trained, fantastic on lead and he loves LOVEEESSS car rides! Geoffrey has grown up with a cat who was his best friend and has also grown up around kids, but he needs to live with older children who will help set boundaries for him as he is a big goofy boy and too bouncy for youngsters. Geoffrey will not suit full time workers and being left alone for long periods. Geoffrey has lived a life of being spoilt, so he tends to think he is a human baby, and is only just learning how to be alone. Geoffrey's new family must take him to obedience training, this is not negotiable. Geoffrey is so smart and has fantastic foundations in place, but he needs a new family who will follow through with his training and implement strong structure, rules and guidance so he doesn't get confused and bored in his new home. Geoffrey would love the company of another dog, a trained female dog who can show him the ropes and who wont get annoyed by his 'puppyness' would be best. If you are after a puppy who will fill your hearts with love, who will get you out of the house to have adventures, who will want to snuggle with you at every opportunity and who you can take to dog training then please consider applying for our darling Geoffrey via this link - https://www.melbourneanimalrescue.org.au//dog-adoption-app Name: Geoffrey Age: Approx 20 weeks Breed: Labrador x Sex: Male Desexed: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Parasite prevention: yes Microchip: 953010004032275 Source Number: EE101639 Adoption fee: $700

14.01.2022 I’m sharing these x-rays with you because a) they are adorable! (Despite their serious nature) and b) they are very educational A few months ago we rescued a tiny budgie who was bought into a vet clinic as a stray, Little Dude. Little Dude was found on the street, he was only a few weeks old, he had a tail pull injury but worse than that he had at least 8 fractures and was suffering severely from Ricketts. Ricketts is condition that occurs due to extreme or prolonged lack ...of vitamin D and Calcium, and it was very evident that Little Dude had lived his short life in a house that failed to provide him with proper nutrition. When we talk about back yard breeding and the responsible purchasing of pets, we automatically think of puppies and kittens....but please don’t forget about our feathered friends! Do your research and only support ethical and knowledgeable bird breeders that have the birds health and wellbeing as the first and foremost priority! Little Dude has recovered from his ordeal with a lot of rehabilitation, supplementation, medication and weaning him off an insufficient junk food seed diet, he's an epic little fighter and has even grown his tail feathers back! Budgies can not live well on seed alone, they need a wide and varied diet with specialised fortified foods, fruit and vegetables. Just like puppies and kittens would that have been bred and raised by a shonky breeder, Little Dude will always bear those scars, but right now he is happy and healthy. Please if you have a pet bird who is only fed packaged seed, give your local avian vet a call and discuss the ways you can improve your birds diet, health and life! A bit of education will lead to a lot more love for you and a long happy, healthy life for your bird friend Thank you so much to Melbourne Bird Vets for their support and care of Little Dude See more

09.01.2022 Sadly last week we lost an amazing little soul.... Vale Max, a tiny fuzzy spunky boy who came from a pound defeated and has spent almost two years being adored and pampered by his amazing mum Anne <3 Little Max was such a unique little dog, at almost 16 he found himself lost and abandoned at a pound he had originally been adopted from years earlier. He had one tooth, was matted through and through, and he had the most forlorn face we had ever seen.... Luckily for Max he got to go live in the most amazing house for seniors with Anne, and this tiny, sassy, funny looking dog went from strength to strength. Max looked more like a muppet version of a dog, or an arctic fox pretending to be a dog, he was unique in looks and personality and we were so lucky to have known him and to been able to save his life. At almost 18 years of age Max said goodbye to the world, and left a very sad mum and crew of seniors behind. Our thoughts and love and thanks go out to Anne for being such an amazing mum to Max over the past few years xoxox Vale Max, you funny, adorable, dinner demanding boy, look over Anne and the senior 4 legged crew, and all the little pound dogs like yourself who just need to be given a chance xo

08.01.2022 HAPPINESS Thank you so much to everyone who answered our call to help last week. We were able to get carers for the two urgent dogs, plus we rescued two more dogs in the process who are now safely in care with their amazing foster families! We will post more details about the new lucky dogs soon, plus we will also be listing dogs for adoption that are already in care. Thank you to the amazing carers who have opened up their hearts and homes and to all those who contact...ed us wanting to help! Your kindness is truly over whelming! This photo is of one of the new lucky dogs to find safety and love this week, his giant smile says it all doesn’t it See more

06.01.2022 <3 INTRODUCING GINGERNUT <3 Gingernut (aka 'Nutties') is an absolute sweetheart! She loves to crawl into your lap on cold days, where she'll gaze lovingly at you for hours and purr like a tiny engine.... She's inquisitive, intelligent, brave, loves to chase toys and play fetch, and has a super cute squeaky meow ('squeeeeeee!'). Habits include pulling clean washing off the clotheshorse - but being really cute about it - and sitting on top of the tallest thing in the house. Gingernut (Nutties) is a "Covid Kitten" which means she hasn't had too many people over to her foster home so she needs a calm, patient and cat savvy home to adjust in. No small children. Gingernut is an inside only kitten. Name: Ginger-nut Breed: DSH Age: Approx 7 months Desexed: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Adoption Fee: $250 Microchip: 956000007406068 Source No: RE115578

06.01.2022 Look at this utterly delightful, happy face This is the face of a dog who’s been rescued and is happy and loved in foster care! If you would like to give dogs in need a helping hand and make them smile again too we are currently in need of dog carers in the south eastern and eastern suburbs of Melbourne.... 06.01.2022 URGENT CALL TO HELP Last night we received a call from one of our trusted clinics. A tiny little soul had been bought in for euthanasia due to trauma suffered and sustaining a broken leg. Could we take her and prevent euthanasia? We didn't ask questions, we just said yes.... This beautiful baby has a completely shattered femur. Being so young at around 8 weeks old, and a large breed German Shepherd, having a shattered leg is very serious. Luckily for her the awesome clinic she came to refused to put her down, and luckily we received the call to help her, and together we saved her life, but now we need help in order to rectify the damage caused in her few short weeks of life. Our new Beautiful babe needed a strong warrior name and has been named "Lutana Amanda". Lutana, which means Moonlight, is a tribute to one of the strongest dogs we have known, who was rescued from a puppy factory 16 years ago and who travelled over the rainbow bridge yesterday at the glorious age of 21. And Amanda as thanks for the vet who refused to put her down. A strong name for a strong girl, and right now she needs all the strength she can muster. Lutana Amanda, being so young, needs urgent specialist orthopedic surgery in order to fix the damage done and to give her the best chance of leading a normal pain free life once older. She has to be operated on tomorrow. She can't wait. While we know times are tough with the world being turned upside down due to Covid, and Christmas approaching, we are still hoping that the animal loving community out there might rally around this tiny pup and help her get the emergency surgery she needs tomorrow. We have been quoted around $5000 which right now is a huge financial stretch due to the constant lockdown rescues we've taken on in the last few months, with surrender forms for new cases still coming in every single day. If you think you could dig deep and spare a few dollars to help save Lutana Amanda we would be so so grateful. Every contribution over $2 is tax deductible. Sadly due to the nature of the injury and the severity, and her young age, we can't wait to raise funds, we need help immediately in order to save her. So please, if you can, every single cent counts. If you can't donate to her care, please please share so we can reach as many people as possible, and every good vibe sent into the universe to help this special girl through are also important! This is urgent and her surgery needs to happen immediately for success. To donate to Lutana Amandas specialist surgery the details are as follows - Bank: Westpac Name: Melbourne Animal Rescue Acct No.: 401726 BSB: 033 127 (please send an email to [email protected] to get a tax receipt) Givenow - https://www.givenow.com.au/melbourneanimalrescueinc or via the donation button on this post Thank you so much for reading, and please dig deep if possible, and share like crazy so we can get this beautiful girl the emergency treatment she needs

01.01.2022 <3 INTRODUCING TIMTAM <3 (aka 'Tammers' or 'TimmyTams') Tim tam is a deliciously addictive dark tortie who is a brilliant, curious, problem-solving, independent and fierce woman! ... Quite shy and reserved at first, she's coming around to enjoy pats from humans, and will reward your patience with lots of love and trust. She's the definite leader of her sisters (Iced Vovo and Gingernut), but loves to play and sleep with them, loves gentle play with humans, and can probably solve a Rubix cube in less than 10 seconds. Habits include finding out where that noise came from. Tim Tam would be best suited to an adult home with no kids, or very cat savvy teenage kids. She is a 'covid kitten' so hasn't had many visitors into her foster home, so can be quite reserved at first and will need a calm and cat savvy new home that will be patient with her. Tim Tam is an inside only cat. If you are interested in this delicious scrumptious beauty, please fill in an application form with as many details as possible - https://www.melbourneanimalrescue.org.au//cat-adoption-app Name: Tim Tam Breed: DSH Age: Approx 7 months Desexed: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Adoption Fee: $250 Microchip: 956000007406494 Source No: RE115578

01.01.2022 INTRODUCING JACKS This utter cutie pie is now available for adoption! Jacks is loyal, playful, energetic and sooooo cuddly!... Jacks needs a home where people will treat him like a fully fledged member of the family, he craves attention and thinks he is a four legged human. He loves playtime and is very athletic. He would be a fantastic best buddy for teenage kids and wouldn’t like a home where people work long work hours. He is very well trained, house trained, great on lead, looooves care rides and could play fetch all day, or snuggle all day! If you are interested please read his whole profile listed here on the Savourlife Adopt-a-Dog portal - https://www.savour-life.com.au/adopt-a-d/search-now//19345 or here on our website - https://www.melbourneanimalrescue.org.au//adopt/dogs/jacks and fill in a dog application form using this link - https://www.melbourneanimalrescue.org.au//dog-adoption-app We look forward to hearing from you and getting this smiley boy the best family possible! <3 source number - EE101639 microchip - 982000356435940
