02.01.2022 #Repost @women_of_sport_ with @get_repost #heresheis LAUREN JACKSON’I am the Head of the Women’s National Basketball League @thewnbl, and also was involv...ed in the work that Tal Karp completed in the Women in Basketball Strategy in early 2020. I was a professional Basketballer for close to 20 years until injuries retired me relatively early. At that stage, I made the choice to move into administration and tried to upskill quickly. I was never super comfortable with the limelight, which came with the success of my playing career, but I am solely committed to pushing women’s basketball further than ever before so administration seemed like the perfect fit. Sport has literally been my life. I have given it everything as an athlete both mentally and physically, and I want to give back to the sport by using my profile, experience and passion to take the WNBL to an even higher level of professionalism and make sure the sport is thriving for the next generation of young woman ballers. Over the past 2 years, I've been inspired by @jerrilrechter (CEO BA). Her clear commitment to Women’s basketball has given our league an opportunity to make massive gains which are benefiting basketball in general in our country. Justin Nelson gave me my first role right after retirement and I learned a lot about the commitment it took to run a WBNL club. He also gave me a space to grow into a new life post being an athlete. @24males24 has been an incredible mentor, giving me confidence in my role. @basketballaus has supported my growth and transition into this role in a way that has made me flourish and evolve as an administrator but also allowed me to prioritise my family which is something I thought was unachievable in sport. I will be eternally grateful. Through being an athlete and now an administrator, I hope to inspire every little girl who wants to be the best athlete in their chosen sport, every single mother who is passionate about sport but worries people will question her commitment, and every woman who wants to lead a sporting organisation.
