25.01.2022 Carr Boyd Ranges, Kimberley, WA - 4-17 April The Carr Boyd Ranges in the Kimberley region of Western Australia are as rugged as they are beautiful. To those more familiar with walking in the southern parts of Australia they are a world apart. Characteristic red colours, water-ravaged gorges and idyllic mountain pools all contribute to a breathtaking experience. In April nine participants from Melbourne Bushwalkers embraced a two-week adventure through the South and North Carr Boyd with tour operator "No Traces Bushwalking Australia" (https://notraces-bushwalking-australia.com/tou/bushwalking/).

19.01.2022 The classic ascent and descent of Mt. Bogong - 23 Apr 2021 On some days, you will find enthusiastic runners climbing and returning from Mount Bogong within a few hours. This club walk, however, took advantage of a full weekend to climb the mountain before the snows settle on its peak for the winter months. The route followed the classic ascent and descent routes to Mt. Bogong and onto the historic campsite adjacent to Cleve Cole hut. (Leader: John W., Photographers: Anita W., Joshua S., Setsuko M., Greg J. )

18.01.2022 The Club's second Sunset Kayak through the city took place on Saturday 27th March. Eighteen of us enjoyed a calm evening, a fish and chips supper, a full moon and the usual Bushies camaraderie.

16.01.2022 Snake Island is a sand island, located in Corner Inlet in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. It has an area of 35-square-kilometre (14 sq mi) and is the largest island in Corner Inlet. Snake Island lies within the Nooramunga Marine and Coastal Park and is part of a complex of barrier islands that protect a large marine embayment from the pounding waves of Bass Strait. The Aboriginal Gunai name for the island is Negima. As the island is remote and relatively unspoilt... it is popular for bushwalkers and many tracks crisscross the island. A diverse range of flora and fauna makes the island particularly interesting for naturalists. Only days after Melbourne’s restrictive lockdown ended, a small group of bushies headed to Snake Island, to enjoy four days of camping and hiking on this delightful island, the weather was great although very windy. A short boat trip took us across to the island, where we set up a base camp in the grounds of the cattleman’s huts.
13.01.2022 Baw Baw Plateau Traverse, a 3 day hike from Stronachs Camp in the north to Walhalla in the south. This is the first section of the 650km long Aust Alps Walking Track - AAWT, which winds its way over the alps from Walhalla to Canberra. We had great weather, with no rain and mild conditions, our group of 10 camped the first night at Mt Philack saddle and the second night at East Tyers River. The walk involved a lengthy car shuffle at both ends.

08.01.2022 Bears Head Range Circuit - 14 March The Lerderderg State Park offers some of the best challenging walks within an easy 2 hour drive or less from Melbourne making it one of the more interesting day walk destinations. Dropping down into the Lerderderg River from the surrounding western plains takes you into a different world of rugged rocky spurs, narrow gorges and dense bushland. The Bears Head Range and Old River Circuit allows walkers to experience the diversity of the area.
07.01.2022 Water purification options - a nice overview of the alternatives, nothing technical, just the pros and cons. https://www.paddypallin.com.au//a-guide-to-water-purifica/
06.01.2022 Three terrific days hiking the Cobbler Plateau and Mt Cobbler. Day one we hiked up on to the plateau via Muesli Spur, and continued on to Cobbler Lake, from here it was just a short walk to view Dandongadale Falls, we could also see the approaching rain and made it back in time to shelter from the rain in the Lake hut. The next day with the sun shining and beautiful blue skies we climbed to a plateau below the summit and set up camp, then headed up to the top of Mt Cobbler for amazing 360 views of the surrounding mountains. Day three, the long descent back to the cars.
01.01.2022 The jagged ridges of the Cathedral Range offer spectacular views and some of the best hiking in the state. Take a gentle walk or prepare to tackle the rugged and challenging Razorback Trail or circuit routes. Either way you won't forget the awesome views. Our Sunday walk today was a day walk here in the magnificent Cathedral Ranges
