25.01.2022 Unfortunately, the Yarra Series Race 3 scheduled for next week-end (21/6) cannot be run due to Covid 19 issues. In its place, we will run a training session at ...the Fitzsimmons Lane Slalom Site from 9:00 to 12:00 and provide timed and scored runs utilising the existing training gates. The session is open to all paddlers, there is no entry fee. This is also an opportunity for prospective volunteers to be introduced to the SiWi timing and scoring system in a low key no pressure situation. The sport is very dependent on volunteer officials. This will be a great introduction for anyone who is interested in helping or for experienced volunteers to expand their skill set. The works under the bridge and for the viewing platform are scheduled to commence this week but have been delayed due to the river running so high. If they do start this week, the session may be compromised or have to be cancelled. There will be a plan in place to mitigate the Covid 19 risk. If you are interested in participating (paddlers and volunteers), it would be helpful if you could email [email protected] by Friday 7:00pm. Entries can also be made on the day. MCC paddlers that regularly train on Sunday morning should turn up and paddle in their usual session. If you have any questions or require further information please contact me. 20.01.2022 Goulburn River Slalom Rapid Works have successfully been completed on the Goulburn River Slalom Rapid to enhance the main wave and re-build and improve many of ...the groins. The works were carried out 10th - 12th August as part of the preparation for the 2021 Paddle Australia All Ages Canoe Slalom Age Championships which were provisionally scheduled for 15th -17th January 2021, subject to COVID-19 constraints. The improvements will be of benefit to all whitewater paddlers, competition and recreational, and builds on the enormous amount of work that has been completed at the site over the past 40 years. As well as maintaining the site as a National Standard Slalom Course, safety and entrapment hazards were addressed. The section of river is used widely by the community, School groups regularly experience moving water in all sorts of craft and authorities such as SES use the site for swift water rescue training. The works were made possible by funding from the Murrindindi Shire and their support is greatly appreciated. The works were carried out by the expert team at contractors Statewide River and Stream Management who have carried out work at the site in the past. An additional 100 ton of rock was added. Paddle Vic Board Chair, Paul Loughran, with Chris Runting, Chair of the Slalom Committee approached Murrindindi Shire and presented the case for maintaining the asset and the economic case of being able to host national sporting events in the shire. Chris oversaw the works and Warwick Draper provided design and technical advice. Chris and Paul contacted the numerous authorities and organizations involved in the Upper Goulburn and received enthusiastic co-operation that enabled the works to occur. The river flow was dropped to 150Ml/day. Thanks to Goulburn Murray Water, Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, Pacific Hydro, AGL and the Outdoor Education Group for their co-operation in making it possible for the works to happen. Chris and Paul commented on the goodwill and support from the local landholders and river authorities expressed towards all aspects of paddling on the Goulburn. See more

12.01.2022 Paddle Australia has been notified of a project in Tasmania pushing for local funding called "Surf City Project", which is for the development of a whitewater and surfing facility in the Launceston region. PA's whitewater athletes will be important stakeholders for this project. The project scope is outlined below. The Surf City ProjectStrapline: To create world class urban river surfing and whitewater recreation facilities for everyone to enjoy, every day....Opportunity: Land locked communities do not have any surf beaches. However, by reshaping dangerous man made weirs into 'wave shapers' or 'whitewater parks,' we can create world class deep water standing surf waves and river rapids that are super fun, safe and accessible.Plan for the funding: Based on our experience visiting cities in the northern hemisphere, we are confident that the Launceston region can become the world's best river surfing and whitewater recreation destination. River surfing/whitewater facilities act as recreation hubs that connect individuals to each other and to nature. We know that surfing makes people happier, healthier and more productive. We intend to to commission an independent research report into the economic benefits of river surfing facilities and whitewater tourism. This report is an essential step in securing funding for construction. Amount requested $10,000The team:
