25.01.2022 Today was a busy day for Compass. We started the day with a catch up between compass members telling each other what we did over the last couple of days/ weeks. Then we finished the day off by rehearsing for the forget me nots.
25.01.2022 There were a lot of members turned up this week for rehearsing for the upcoming concerts of the Forget me nots ( the band at Compass.) We are planning to perform multiple concerts this time due to the successful concert last time.
23.01.2022 Today we had an excellent turn out of members, in which we took advantage of by having a very productive weekly meeting, we discussed all things that's got to do with Compass group, like the need to brighten up the room via the members painting some blank canvases and putting them up on the walls. Also Neil ( one of the members ) came up with a suggestion box idea for members to write suggestions and put them into the box if they want to remain anonymous.
23.01.2022 This week at Compass we are continuing following the Governments guidelines re the Covid 19 (Coronavirus) outbreak like social distancing rules- at least 1 meter from each other and if you feel the need to sneeze or cough direct it into your elbow and use the hand sanitiser as much as possible
22.01.2022 Today we had a lot of members turn up. We even had to fight for spaces around the table and for chairs available!! We took Advantage of the strong turn out by rehearsing longer for the forget me nots ( our band) for upcoming concert and practiced the 1 new song which we put into our song list last week, it was: a crazy thing called love by Queen.
22.01.2022 Today we had a catch up with members talked about what's going on at Compass because we haven't done that for a couple of months. It was really great catching up with each other.
21.01.2022 Today we had a L and P ( learning and Participating ) meeting in which we learned about Self Advocacy. In which we discussed about who out of the members needed to self advocate and how did they feel while they were self advocating. In general the feeling was positive. The majority of the members felt they were being heard.
21.01.2022 Today was the first Wednesday back for the year. We started the day with catching up with each other and told others what we did over the break. Then we ate lunch and we did some more catching up with each other. everyone was glad to be back at Compass.
21.01.2022 Today was a really busy day at Compass. In which we took the opportunity to catch up with each other. We even had to find more chairs for everyone! And try to squish up to fit everyone around the table!!
20.01.2022 Today we had Xavier come down to talk to us about a Government funding project we potentially will get. We took the chance to brainstorm about what we will show the government to gain a portion of the funding.
20.01.2022 Today we had the follow up discussion on the video launch we did a couple of months ago, in which we discussed how to distribute the videos we made on our life stories and telling the audience how it feels having an ABI.
19.01.2022 Today we had a huge turn up by members. In which we took advantage of by rehearsing more for the upcoming Forget-me-nots concert, we are getting really good one of the spectators( onlookers) said we were good enough to make a recording of!! Our song repertoire is growing as well. It's up to more than 10 songs that we are rehearsing!
18.01.2022 With regret we had close Compass for a couple of weeks due to the Covid 19 pandemic but we will be open again on the 20th of April see you all then!!
17.01.2022 Today was a really busy day for Compass. There was approximately 15 members turned up. We took advantage of the great turn out by practicing more songs with the forget me nots. We think we mastered 1 song fully which is handle with care by the Travelling Wilburys and are on the way with 2 other songs one from John Farnham and one from U2
15.01.2022 Today we had the second visit from Xavier about the government funding telling us they submitted it to the government and we just have to wait for the response, it will be probably be a couple of weeks until we hear anything.
14.01.2022 Yesterday we had the first representative meeting about what Compass should be in the future starting in January 2020. It was a really great meeting in which we raised a lot of things/ issues about Compass. The next meeting will be next week same time same place. ( Wednesday at 10.30 in the same meeting room.)

11.01.2022 Today was a really busy day at Compass. We started the day off catching up with each other and asking how was the Easter holiday for each member. Then after lunch we had band practice in which we used the Bluetooth speaker because we didn't have the guitarist - Cullum to play the music for us, We managed by singing along to the original songs.
10.01.2022 This week on Wednesday we just chatted with each other, there were a lot of members turned up so we decided to rehearse for the forget me nots concert, that will be coming up soon. We all felt that we did well despite not rehearsing for the whole year!
09.01.2022 Today we Had Therese the Senior Manager of Community Services at Melbourne City Mission come down to let us know how we cope with the Covid19(Coronavirus) outbreak and help to ease our minds with ensuring us that Melbourne City Mission(MCM) is on the case and are preparing for practically every scenario that the Virus throws up like having to self isolate and the fact we may need to bring our own lunches because of the shortage of supplies in the supermarkets. In which we get our ingredients (Ozharvest.)
09.01.2022 Today there were a lot of members turned up at Compass so we took advantage of the large turn out by rehearsing for the Forget me nots upcoming concert which will be within the first half of the year.,Watch this space for more info. We even learnt a new song today which was: Guns and Roses Patience. We found it reasonably easy to start with but it turned out to be much harder when we got into actually learning how the song actually goes.
06.01.2022 Today we had an excellent turnout of members come along to compass, We took advantage of it by doing more rehearsing of the new songs, in which we all thought we have improved on 3 of them which is great!
05.01.2022 This week we had the representatives of Compass meeting for the third time on a Wednesday and we found out we will be moving to a new location in early 2020. We don't know where yet but we will be moving to a bigger more suitable space for Compass' needs! Also we are getting another staff member to help out the existing Facilitators, all positive news coming out of these meetings about the future of Compass!
05.01.2022 Today we practised some more for the upcoming concerts of the forgetmenots. It went brilliantly especially with the 2 new songs.
04.01.2022 Today we had our annual Football Grand final party in which we asked the members to come dressed in there football team colours, we played a game of handball target in which each member took turns to aim at a target and we scored them by which number they hit like if they hit the middle they scored 10 points and if they hit a number out of a 5 or 7 then we would score them the appropriate number they hit. It's like a dartboard. One of the members - Sue Lilly won the comp and she got awarded with a little prize and a big cheer from the rest of us. All had fun at the party.
04.01.2022 Today was a exceptionally busy day at Compass. We took advantage of it by rehearsing for more time after lunch, We learned a new song today which was Let it be by the Beatles. Watch this space for upcoming concert dates.
04.01.2022 Today there was approximately 20 members turned up to Compass. We took advantage of it by rehearsing some more for the forget me nots upcoming concert which we don't know the concerts date yet but watch this space for more information. We had a go at Queens A crazy thing called Love and managed to get through it all after the 4th time we tried it! The song will sound amazing once we practice it more!
04.01.2022 This week we had a lot of members turn up for the last week before the Christmas party, which is at the Moreland hotel at 11 on Wednesday the 18th at 11am. and that will be the last week for the year of Compass. We will be returning on the 20/1/1/20! I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas from us all at Compass and see you in the new year!
04.01.2022 Today we had a lot of members turn up and we talked about the demonstration of Climate Change in basically every capital city in Australia, firstly we asked the members if they know about it and what do they think about it. We had a mixed bag of opinions on the demonstrations, a few of the members didn't know they were going on despite being on the news for the majority of the nights last week!
03.01.2022 Today we had the L and P on Communication. We all contributed a lot, in fact the meeting ran over time and it ate up our lunch time!!
02.01.2022 Today we had another Workshop with Xavier, this time Joel from MCM'S head office was there to support Xavier facilitate the running of the meeting. The meeting was about what would the members want Compass look like in the future, It was a really great in which practically member had there input on how they feel Compass is going vs how we want it to look like in the future.
02.01.2022 Today we had a meeting with Xavier from Melbourne City Mission (MCM) about the co design activity, in which a number of members from Compass attended 3 workshops with staff from MCM last year in which we talked about what we want Compass to look like moving forward Eg how will the place that we go to regularly look like and where should it be, also Activities that members want to do with each other as a fun socializing either out in the community or in the specific place where we decide to move to. and the general administration of running Compass day to day etc also we discussed about the financial requirements that Compass needs to be accessible to the members,
02.01.2022 Today was the second week in a row we had an excellent turn out of members.We had to sit as close as possible to each other to squeeze in more people around the table! Again we took advantage of the turn out by rehearsing for more time for the forget me nots concert which we haven't decided when it will be.
02.01.2022 Today we were down in numbers for band practice( the Forget me nots) but we still rehearsed anyway despite us down 3 members we sounded the best yet! watch this space for more information on the upcoming concerts!
02.01.2022 Today we had a L and P on Self Esteem. It was really interesting to talk about our own experiences on how we deal with self esteem. I think everyone got a lot out of it.
01.01.2022 Today we had the launch of the video. Its the second campaign of the 'headsup ' project we came up a couple of years back, We decided to do this video because we felt the ABI term and message isn't widely known out in the general community. The event was a successful launch
01.01.2022 Today we all sat around and chatted and took it in turns to ask some questions that Compass supplied in a folder. The exercise was to encourage the members to talk more and to share with each other what they feel about the specific questions an example of the questions are: what do you feel is the best invention of all time and are you a morning person or night person.
