25.01.2022 When we set out planning for the Aussie Disc Golf Day here in Melbourne, we sure didn’t expect to get the number of players that we did. We were really excited as a club to have so many fresh faces joining us for the event! Everyone seemed to have a really great day, with many of the players participating in their first ever sanctioned tournament! Some hot rounds were thrown across loads of divisions! Congrats to all the winners of their respective divisions, as well as ...anyone who bagged a CTP. It was really exciting to see the course full to the brim for a whole entire day! The future of disc golf in greater Melbourne is looking really promising! A big thank you to any of the MDGC club members who helped with course setup and breakdown, or those of you who snapped photos or looked after the pro-shop during the day. The club wouldn’t be where it was today without the hard work of it’s membership group. To any new players who participated on the day, we hope that you had a blast, and that we will see you around the courses more in 2021! Division Winners: Open - Dylan Spangenberg MP40 - Mat Adams MA1 - Jay Ros FA1 - Emma Winkworth MA2 - Markus Villota MA40 - Glenn Maisey MA50 - Jeff Brunsting MA4 - Lachlan Ryan and Matthias Poi FA4 - Janet Ford-Adams FJ15 - Cadence Hannan MJ15 - Sean Maisey Bring on 2021! Exciting times ahead for Disc Golf in Melbourne. 24.01.2022 The Aussie Disc Golf Day, Bald Hill Park, Clarinda. Our first sanctioned tournament since Feb 2020 due to COVID 19 restrictions. Unfortunately, players were still required to wear masks but it was a fantastic event.

24.01.2022 Dreaming of playing disc golf in New Zealand? Looks pretty cool. Not sure which course this is but I like it!

23.01.2022 During the Aussie Disc Golf day event at Bald Hill Park, Tim McCarthy recorded the greatest improvement from round one to round two, dropping a massive 12 shots and was awarded a $25.00 gift voucher from Yikun Discs Australia for his efforts. Congratulations Tim and thank you Yikun Discs Australia for your support. #discgolf #aussiediscgolfday #melbournediscgolf #yikundiscsaustralia

22.01.2022 You may have heard that some of our MDGC members were raising funds for the Cancer Council by challenging themselves to 100 holes of disc golf in one day. These legends raised over $10,000! Read about it here; https://www.melbournediscgolf.com/mdgc-members-raise-over/ #discgolf #TheLongestDay #melbournediscgolf #latrobefinancial #aussiediscgolf

22.01.2022 Latest update from Vic gov. Disc Golf in Vic where stage four lockdown is enforced is currently not allowed. Sorry for any misleading info. Stay safe everyone.

22.01.2022 Earlier this week we introduced you to the Summer Cup, a Summer disc golf challenge which runs from now until the 19th February, 2021. This format was created to encourage play during the summer months when we don't normally host league days. You can play at any time you like but must complete 2 scored rounds (18 holes) at each of the three Melbourne Courses. To have a valid entry, you must play with at least one other registered Summer Cup Competitor, record your scores... on either UDisc or Disc Golf Metrix and submit your scores following your round to our tournament director. It is simple and it is a fun way to meet other disc golfers and to improve your game. You may even opt to participate in our 'House of Cards' bag tag challenge, a friendly challenge between disc golfers to see who can win the most cards. If you haven't done so already, we suggest you join the MDGC Facebook Chat group to meet other players and organise rounds. More information on 'Summer Cup', 'House of Cards', rules of play and how to enter can be found on our website; https://www.melbournediscgolf.com/ev/2020-2021-summer-cup/

21.01.2022 This is Mikey, one of our newer, junior disc golfers. He has only been playing for a few months but has already put some of us to shame. 21.01.2022 What a great day to learn disc golf. Ten year old David discovered the sport recently and was gifted a beginner set for his birthday. He couldn't wait to get out on the course at Ruffey Lake Park, to learn a few new skills and share his passion with family and friends. Members of MDGC were there to lend a hand. Evelyn even came out of 'retirement' to share a few tips. We hope you enjoyed your day at our beautiful park and hope to see you back out on the course again soon. ps. excuse the blurry pic. taken with phone and smudge on lens. :/

21.01.2022 Where did you play your first round of disc golf? #discgolf #melbournediscgolf #kidsdiscgolf #discolfinaustralia #growthesport

20.01.2022 The Aussie Disc Golf Day is just a few short days away and clubs around Australia are busy preparing for the event. We understand that those who are competing in their first tournament may feel a little overwhelmed so we have put together a list of some disc golf terminology to help you to prepare for the day. We want everyone to enjoy themselves and we are a pretty friendly bunch so if you are unsure about anything, feel free to ask. https://www.melbournediscgolf.com/disc...-golf-terminology/ #aussiediscgolfday #melbournediscgolf #discgolf #discgolfterminology #disgolfrules

17.01.2022 It is school holidays in Melbourne and whilst many activities and entertainment venues are still closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, disc golf courses are open and free to play in small groups where social distancing is practiced. Now would be a great time to introduce the sport you love to your family and friends. You are never too young to learn. Remember: discs may be borrowed from Manningham library, Doncaster and at Clarinda Library.

17.01.2022 Happy New Year disc golfers. Melbourne has already seen its first event for 2021 with the 'Hot Start' and we are looking forward to many more throughout the year. 14.01.2022 Let's talk about trophies. We have seen some amazing creativity, incredible engineering and all round 'wow' with trophies at Disc Golf events during the past years. With limited budgets, tournament directors often take it upon themselves or enlist the help of the 'creative one' from the group to create a memorable trophy, unique to their event and sometimes to the region. Show us some pics of some of your favourite disc golf trophies (if you have been lucky enough to win them) and let us know which event they were from. The weirder and wackier the better!

13.01.2022 Check out this video by Matt Hill of disc golf's Patty Robinson challenging ultimate champ Tom Tulett. 09.01.2022 Kids learn by watching and listening to those around them and I am sure that young William learnt a great deal about disc golf at the Aussie Disc Golf Day event at Bald Hill Park on Saturday as he and his sister followed Dad for 40 holes. Just watch how he mimics Mikey's putt. The future of disc golf is strong. #discgolf #kidsdiscgolf #melbournediscgolf #aussiediscgolfday #aussiediscgolf #baldhillparkdiscgolf

07.01.2022 Regrettably, the come and try day at Heidelberg that was scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled due to heightened COVID-19 restrictions. You can still support the installation of the course however by writing a letter of support to [email protected] and letting the people of Banyule know how much disc golf has benefited you and your family / community. Please help to get this course installed. It would be such a wonderful addition to the park lands at Heidelberg for all community members to use.

05.01.2022 It was exciting to be back out on the course at Ruffey Lake Park this weekend for 'Return to Play', our first official event since restrictions have eased. We were not able to engage in the competitive league or the social get-together that we usually enjoy on the third Saturday of each month due to COVID-19 restrictions, however the event organised by the club ensured disc golfers, experienced and new had a chance to practice their skills and enjoy two rounds of disc golf w...hilst enjoying the company of their card mates while social distancing. The course was very wet and slippery but the rain held off and we enjoyed a beautiful sunny day. We had 30 play during the morning round and 22 in the afternoon. Of those 18 played both rounds. There were 8 new players who joined us for this event. It is great to see more and more people enjoying the sport. Congratulations Chris Ronalds for taking out the CTP during the morning and to Mat Adams for the afternoon round. The standout performance for the day went to Mr Consistent, Dylan Spangenberg who threw back-to-back rounds of 9 under par. Nice work!! There were a few who had their eye on the Ace Pool prize but alas, it is safe and ready for the taking next league day. Check out some of the pics taken by Carol during the morning round. Please feel free to tag yourself.

03.01.2022 As more and more people embrace this wonderful sport we wonder; how did you first learn about disc golf? Did a friend drag you out for a round? Did you stumble across a Youtube video? Share your stories below.

03.01.2022 The Melbourne Disc Golf Club had its long awaited Return to Disc Golf Celebration Day on Saturday Dec 12 at Ruffey Lake Park. The celebration day was open to everyone. It was well attended with 31 players in the morning and 21 in the afternoon. For several of the players it was their first taste of competition at Ruffey Lake. That is exactly what we were hoping for, but it brought with it some difficulties in picking a champion for the day. These types of events are normally... a HC competition to even the playing field for everyone but in this event half of the people did not have handicaps. However, there was certainly one player who stood out from the rest, Carey Edwards took up the sport about a year ago and has never looked back. Carey’s last recorded handicap was February of this year and it was 20. On Saturday he shot a -8 in the morning and a -2 in the afternoon. Well done Carey, you are the Return To Play Champion. You have a $40 MDGC gift card coming your way so you can buy even more discs. Other standout players were Dylan Spangenberg with a -9 in the morning and Joel Stucky with a -5 in the afternoon. Big congrats to our hole prize winners for the day as well. The CTPs went to Tarron Anderson x 2, Emma Winkworth, and Hugh Evans and the longest hole outs went to Owen Maisey and Callum Kirkpatrick. It was a fantastic day. We are looking forward to a huge 2021. #discgolf #melbournediscgolf #ruffeylakepark #discgolfisback #Australiandiscgolf

03.01.2022 Hi Melbourne Disc Golfers! All the info for the Aussie Disc Golf Day has been emailed to you if you’re playing! Please check your inbox (and junk folder!) Looking forward to Saturday!

01.01.2022 For those of you competing in our friendly, "House of Cards" bag tag challenge during Summer, here are the rules; House of Cards 20-21 RULES Card bets can be made on any round during the entire run of the summer cup.... Handicap of strokes can be used, provided both players agree prior to START of the round If a player loses the round, they must surrender (1) of their own name cards, or (2) of other players cards. A player can bet cards against multiple opposing players during the same round, provided they have the cards to cover ALL the loses A player who has more cards than another, MUST accept the challenge, provided the 2 players can agree on match terms. A player can surrender one card in lieu of not accepting a challenge from a lesser card-carrying player. If a player has no cards and loses a round, they don’t surrender any cards, and there are no owsies. The player at the end of the season who can amass the most points via cards, is the winner. Your own named cards = 3 points Anyone else's cards = 1 point If you would like to join in the fun, customised player cards may be purchased here; https://www.melbournediscgolf.com//house-of-cards-bag-ta/

01.01.2022 Niced: a situation in which someone says Nice referring to what looks like a nice shot only to see that same shot take an unfortunate kick or otherwise have a less than ideal result. I am curios to know......for those of you who speak a language other than English, what is the 'nice' equivalent?

01.01.2022 Melbourne...are you ready!!!!! As Melbournians waited eagerly for today's announcement on the easing of COVID restrictions, the one thing that disc golfers wanted to know is can we play? The answer is yes! It's time to clear off the cobwebs, dust off your discs and get back out on the course!... From midnight tonight (18/10/2020), those in Metro Melbourne can play disc golf as long as you stick to a few simple rules; 1. You must stay within a 25km radius of your home (or work if you're an authorised on-site worker) 2. You can be in a group of no more than ten people from at most two households 3. Masks must be worn 4. Maintain social distancing This is great news for those who live within 25 km of their nearest course. Of course we still cannot run leagues or tournaments but hopefully these restrictions will be lifted before The Aussie Disc Golf Day in November. I wonder how many glow games will commence at midnight tonight?
